Do you know what it is? - GOALS.

Clearly defined goals and plans to achieve them. People who run around aimlessly looking for the next best thing to pop up in their lives often find themselves overwhelmed by life's unexpected situations and get the feeling as if they are somehow "victims of circumstances".

On the other hand, people who sit down and decide what their major and minor goals for the future are, and then spend a couple of days breaking it down into simple step-by-step plans to follow - these are the people who SUCCEED in life and guess what? - They have VERY LITTLE STRESS!

Now why is this so? Well, it's simple - because in each situation that comes up, they know their priorities and there's nothing to think about - they simply follow the chosen path because they know it's the best thing to do.

There's little UNCERTAINTY with people who have clearly written GOALS and PLANS. Uncertainty is the main reason for stress. Think about it.

    I totally agree! People with no goals in their life, run around in circles, and do not get far. The interesting thing is that there are also people with goals and detailed plans, with luck on completing the steps. They do not get far either! so it is the will power and self discipline that can be added to eliminate stress

    Goal,goal,goal -its such a hyped "word" in use that people often confuse it with ambition.duty.objective,aim and destination,but let me add here that goal is not the END of the road its a journey and a goal can never be finished it can only be MARKED as a point of schema where we lay our initial pitch and tend the see the picture through a tunnel,reaching where we shall create a new thought and again enterprise for the new Journey.

    Great post. I totally agree.

    The easiest way to bake a cake is to have a recipe that you can follow step by step, same with setting goals.

    Goals give you targets to aim at. If you go try to go from A to Z in one go you will more than likely fail, but if you go from A to B to C etc till you get to your end goal of Z you will not only have success but you will have a measurable map of how you got there.

    Easiest way of eating an elephant? One bite at a time!

    Stop now and set goals, not only for your business, but for your life, if you have not already done so!

      I really hate to disagree with you as your post is an excellent one. That being said, life does have a tendency to throw a curve ball of uncertainty into people's lives, even those with the most well laid out of plans and goals.

      I think where the difference lies is that those that do have well laid out plans with contingency plans, have a tendency to be able to handle the curve balls better internally than those that allow themselves to be tossed to and fro with every wave, allowing stress to be at the helm as you say.

        The act of setting goals is an act of taking ownership of your direction. It creates choice and options.

        If the situation you are in goes wrong it is less stressful because you own your choices. You own your goals.

        You know that the situation you find yourself in is not inescapable and you have no intention of allowing the situation to become permanent. Your goals are telling you that this situation is temporary.

        If you don't set goals, you are not taking ownership of your circumstance and you become a victim of a situation you have no control over. That is stressful.

    I agree that setting and having goals can reduce stress, however even better is constantly achieving goals.

    Yes... people who have no goals, have no meanings in their lives. They just pass their days as such. No goal to chase, no achievement to get.

    Live become meaningless. No passion. No excitement. Life will become nothing...
