Are you afraid of failure ?

It is common knowledge many give up after hitting the first wall. Sometimes this comes in the form of a failed product, poor website traffic, or lack of affiliate interest.

However if your still relatively new to IM and are concerned about investing time, energy and even money into a project that fails, sit down and ask your self..

What is the absolute WORST that could happen ?

By sitting down and actually putting your terrible fears onto paper, your likely to surprise your self and may find it motiving.

Personally, I came up with only two items.
  • Loose money
  • Waste time
  • Loose the dream - Thanks Mr Bill

That's it.

There's a catch with that list though.

It assumes I give up

On the other hand, if I'm determined the list actually reads like this.
[LIST][*]Invest in my business[*]Gain Wisdom

[/IST]

What am I trying to prove here ?

You need to look at your fears that are prohibiting you in PERSPECTIVE

Yes it will suck to "loose" $15 for a domain and maybe $10 for a months of hosting. However if you sit down and ask your self, why did it fall through - you will learn something invaluable.

A way NOT to do things.

Why is this good ?

It leaves room for the ways you CAN

Cheers,

Morgan.

I don't think it's about wasting time or losing money. I think it's got to do with people losing their dreams.

I used to be a stock market instructor and while lots of money was being made and lost. I was fascinated in the violent and vicious attacks I'd have to suffer from people who lost a relatively small amount of money (less than $100 in some cases). After much thinking and discussion I discovered that it had nothing to do with the money but everything to do with lost dreams. That's what hurts the most and that's why people get so upset when a puny $7 WSO doesn't live up to it's promises. It's not the money or the time but the dreams that people mourn the loss of.

    That's what I reckon anyway.

    Thanks for the post Bill.

If it's the dream people are afraid of loosing, it is very counter intuitive that people should give up on the dream knowing that is the only way to ensure their precious dreams are lost.
Perhaps the pathway to success should begin by instilling a emotion driven desire to succeed, and connecting the notion of loosing the dream with giving up.

People are more fickle than that. Dreams are dreams because they seem unachievable and when people let them down (or they let themselves down) they default to the natural state of the mind which is the negative mode. People rise to dreams but fall to negative.

I had to learn not to attack people when they complained to me about losing some money trying to make money. I used to say, "it's only $100 man! What the hell are you freaking out about?!" and understand that they had lost what they thought was the path to achieving their dreams and once I empathised with therm on that level I was able to understand their anger and depression. They were just defaulting (deflating?) to the natural negative state.

      Hi Guys

Great thread, I personally think people are afraid of being taken out of their comfort zones and they will be put off by themselves and others. So for example if they lose money on the stock exchange then they can blame someone else but also justify this by listening to their friends who will say "see I told you it wouldn't work just as well it was only $100". I agree people have dreams and so to lose your dream or see it not work the first time round hurts people and puts them off. However, it is about mindset and as Thomas Edison always says "Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."
There are so many people who think they are helping their friends by "keeping them safe" when in fact they should be encouraging them to push the boundaries and live a little and above all follow their dream.
It's easy to get stuck in a rut and think this is the best it gets or to start something and when it doesn't work the first time stop. Creating habits makes it easier to follow through and having a big "WHY" will also help.
      Thanks
      Nicky

Are you afraid of failure? Yes I am afraid, and I failed already. It really help me to balance my life, not only time and money but my whole personality. I mold me to be strong and listen what other people's opinion.

I'm afraid of failure too, especially when I have started up with something and ended up with debts......I just started IM early this month, I'm very new in IM, don't have good knowledge about it as well. I'm at the learning stage and I know the good result will not be coming over one night, but really scared of no sales coming in later on and this will be increasing my debts and no money to continue doing IM.

So everyday I will keep telling myself do not think too much, don't be so negative thinking....keep learning and do my best, keep getting advice from you all if I'm hang in the half way....

I will not give up this round

      Cheers

I'm afraid of failure... But, it won't stop me to take action
What is the absolute WORST that could happen?
I'll always ask this question too when fears and worries are about to stop me to take action. This simple question really gives me new perspective and open a new door of possibilities.

What will I lose if I try it?

Never be afraid of failure, because failure is not the end of the road. It's just a phase which we must pass.

Most people (included me) are afraid of failures because we see failure very negative.
Mistake are common for us and we must welcome mistake in our life and ask a permission from yourself to learn from those mistakes.

One of my closest friend told me that failure happens once you've quit.

Failure is a verification of where we are currently standing against the test. It just tell we how much more we need to beat the test. Any other negative mental talks are all created in our mind. Get rid of them and continue to work.

We are all afraid of failure in one form or another, and if we face that fear head on we will find out that 99% of the time that fear existed only in our head.

Don't let fear steal your life or future from you!

The difference between a stumbling block and a stepping stone is purely in how high you lift your foot.

Step on your fear and use it to propel yourself to new heights!

You grow the most outside of your comfort zone.

Whether I fear it or not, failure happens.

Failure is inevitable, like death and taxes.

Great insight Mr Bill, I felt it when I read it.

Off course, I am afraid of failure. Especially when you have people around you that are expecting a lot from you. You can't afford to fail. However, saying that. failure helps to see where you've made a mistake so you think of another way of doing what you be trying to do until you get the result you expect.

I welcome failure into my life with open arms. I just ask that I can fail quickly and then try a different approach. Because money can always be replaced but your time cannot.

You don't really fail at anything until you stop trying to succeed by using different methods. What is really sad is when people fail and then keep trying to do things the same way, even when they have proven to themselves that whatever it is they are trying to do doesn't work.

Failure is powerful because you can learn from it and grow. Success is great too, but sometimes you just don't learn the lessons from it in the way you do from failure.

When I study this subject, I have gotten a lot of good information from studying people who have endured tough military schools like Ranger School and BUDS. Those that made it through will say that the physical is important but is 90% mental. For most people, this is just hoo-rah soldier talk, but its true.

Really study those that survive. The way they view adversity is totally different than those that don't make it through. From day 1, they have the mindset that no matter what, they will survive. So when some possible failure comes up, its just another task to get around (or through) before they can reach their objective.

I agree with Mr. Bill. Some of this is about keeping your goal squarely in front of you at all times and not losing that.

But it all comes down to a decision. How bad do you want it?

Failure means almost nothing except data that you can improve upon. Other than that, it's the journey that counts and the energy stemming from living the experience. For example I failed to reach my financial goals (again) but the bottom line is that I was in profit. If the fear of failure daunted me, I wouldn't have embarked on the journey.
