My tips to staying productive and organized in my day

Heres how I stay productive during my daily routines.

I establish a routine a stick to it.

I wake up every morning at 7:30am

Exercise, when I exercise I feel as though I am about 2x as productive that day than on the days which I do not excercise.

Write down a task of things to do, I use the pomodoro methods to track all of the things that I need to do in a day.

I use to eat infront of the computer, I realized that when I did this I would often start watching netflix or other shows and once its started.... well it was hard to stop.. Not going to lie though I was hooked on game of thrones for a week, season 1 to season 2, I came to this epiphany when I reached the end of season 2...

Take breaks, even if you don't need it, take regular breaks, I noticed that it increases the longevity of my mind.

Coffee or tea, pick your posion. I love tea but coffee makes me jump off walls and I get worse A.d.d

Organize organize organize.
Can't afford or don't have room for a filing cabinet? Goto staples or office depot, heck even check out craigslist and you'll find small portable filers that you can buy for super cheap. throw in some folders for 5$ and your golden.

Great tips Alcon. Lately I've been getting up earlier to start working and that really helped me. I used to work at night but I find I'm a lot quicker and more focused in the morning.

Another thing I like to do a lot is visualize what will happen if I don't finish the project I'm working on, and also what will happen if I do. Basic pain vs. pleasure that Tony Robbins talks about. Gets me motivated.

thats great! I visualize whats going to happen if I don't work aswell. My bank account goes to zero and I don't eat (I'm kind of a foodie so this would be death!) !

I'm the same way, I work much better in the mornings, and if I wake up late I feel as my day is late. And as my day progresses on more and more distractions start to roll in which hamper my productivity. So I try to wake up early and work before all the distractions start to roll in

I've found after talking to some people that each person has a window of a few hours in their entire day when they work best. For some people it could be at 5am, and other at 3pm. By testing you'll figure out for yourself when you work best.

Yeah. I find that tea helps a lot when I have low energy.

Yes, get a note and write down your tasks and goals for that day. This is a small thing but have a big impact.

I learned it from Richard Branson, the UK millionaire. He always carries with him a little notebook. In the notebook, he writes everything about what he needs to do in that day. I apply it to myself and it really makes me more productive.

I ask myself how I can do less that effective more with my work.
      Everyday I learn something more.

Great tips. I find that my brain needs consistency. To remain productive I try to have productive habits. I try to avoid time wasters; which varies with individuals. I prefer starting my day at 4 am and doing exercise at 9am. I prefer getting into forums in the afternoon and generally find that avoiding negative feelings helps be more organized and productive.

      Thats great!
I agree with the water thing. I use to be quite skinny and when I started working out I began to take supplements. I eventually started on creatine which to work effectively requires that you drink a lot of water throughout the day. I started to carry those 1 gallon crystal geyer jugs around with me (I prefer the ones with the soft white strap bc it makes it much easier to lug around and throw) I began to notice that my thinking was getting a little clearer and I didn't get headaches as often.

I agree with consistency. Today I had to do something that was unplanned and out of routine so i felt like it kind of threw my day out of whack.

Richard Branson is one of my idols, I didn't know that he carried a little notebook with him though. I do something similar to this, I use the colornote app on my android phone, but I haven't been practicing using my notepad as rigorously... I really only use it when I'm driving and some crazy random idea pops into my head

These are great tips. I recently left another full-time job to work from home and I've found that sticking to a routine helps me to be so much more productive. I'm definitely more productive if I start working early in the day.

I myself find the need to be more organized and productive. I will feel guilty if I'm "off" the track. Normally I will use gmail tools to aid me, such as their calendar; keeps me on track to what I'm suppose to do for the day.

Game of Thrones also took away 20 hours productive work from me

Routines are awesome for keeping you focused and on task, good advice

For those using daily task or to-do lists, try making the list last thing at night before you go to bed. I find i'm far more focused on the tasks on the list after i've slept on it - not sure of the psychology behind it, but it works like a charm for me.

I have found if I get up really early, my day goes much better. The quiet in the house before the rest of my family gets up is wonderful. I can make my to-do list and really focus on my first tasks of the day.

Of couse this requires that I go to bed pretty early

Couldn't agree more with you on the exercise part of your routine. I find myself to be way more productive when I exercise. And taking breaks is also extremely important. I have been trying to eliminate tv from schedule because I feel like become in a trance whenever I start watching tv, which causes me to waste time and be unproductive.

I should agree that having an everyday to-do list is very helpful. I have been doing this everyday and besides that, I also have my little "positive-goal-oriented" notes so I can work with a positive attitude, which contributes a lot to my productivity.

Great info in this post. Only valuable input that I can recommend without repeating statements above is using Evernote. It's free, it's incredible. I never have to use paper EVER which is fantastic and everything you need is at your fingertips. It helps productivity in particular because you don't have to spend unnecessary TIME searching for information, data, files, notes, websites, lessons, etc etc etc... you tag everything and it's all searchable. Call it an "external brain." Incredible

I used to work late into the night and wake up in the noon. It was a really lousy way to start my day since when I wake, half of it is gone.
Waking up earlier now does have its merits, still struggling to factor in daily exercise though, I am a true blue couch potato...

To confront the problem, I do a lot of what the OP suggests. One thing he suggests is exercise, and my form of doing that is to take a good walk. That always helps to recharge and get me back on track.

      set a good daily routine.

I wake up at 5am every day of the week. Of course that means i go to bed kind of early.

      eat a decent breakfast.
      take a multi vitamin
get a juicer and have a few pure veggie/fruit juices a day
      exercise
      meditate
I use Evernote and love it but also keep notebook and mobile to voice records ideas
I use the pomodoro app to plow through tasks i am finding hard to do.
I set my goal list for the next day at the end of the day

Couldn't agree more. Exercise is key. If you live in front of the computer you'll start to hate life after a while. You gotta break it up. I agree with IMLearningIM too, make a list of tasks for next day, get the coffee brewing on a timer so its there when you wake up.

some day I hope to be doing well enough to wake up at 7:30 instead of 4:55 am too much work to do right now!
