My story of success and failure

Four years ago (when I was 18) I remember staying up late at night because I couldn't sleep. I was soon going off to college at UNLV and like most incoming freshmen I had no clue as to what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I grow up around computers. My dad had made me a nerd lol. We would take apart computers and put them back together and unlike a lot of things in life; computers were something I understood.

So, I was up late at night and this cheesy commercial came on about making money online. The pitch was ridiculous as I think back now. "I will build you a money making website. Just pay me $500/ month ( some b.s like that). I had no idea what affiliate marketing was or how to make money online but the thought of working from home was a dream. So that was what I set out to do.

I began hitting the internet HARD for anything and everything about making money online. I would read non stop for hours on end about anything I could find. How to make $300/day, how to make a passive income online, how to be successful online & a million get rich quick schemes.

After months of reading late nights I finally became bored of reading and was ready for my first venture into the online world.

Sadly, my first website was a disaster! Embarrassing really, I had the idea of remaking video game trailers and adding a comedic twist. My plan was to rank for the keywords of the newly launched video games and use the traffic from those YouTube videos to direct my viewers to my website. I taught myself dreamweaver to edit my site and adobe premier to create the videos. My website had a bunch of affiliate offers from commission junction. We'll I dove in head first and spent $700 on this silly website that looked like... well you know. One video actually did rank number 2 for the keyword I was shooting for: Max Payne 3. I quickly gained about 50,000 organic views but was soon banned.

I dropped the idea and moved on. I soon stumbled upon flippa.com and found a website the really interested me. I didn't know it yet but I had hit gold. The website had an affiliate system that sold auto insurance leads to insurance companies. I bought the site for $300 and began to drive traffic. I quickly found a traffic source that began to bank me 5k a month in affiliate revenue
( not bad for being 18).

I ran though many more failures; more than I can count really. I always knew what I wanted though; to make money online. I continued to learn the craft of making monkey from home. At 21 I forced myself to be successful. I moved out into a condo out here in Vegas living off of my online earnings. This forced me to figure things out quickly because if I didn't make money then I didn't eat. I'm 22 and I've started a very successful online PR company with a partner.

My point is this, you will fail a few times but every failure will be one step closer to what you really want. Don't be afraid of failure. I wish you the best & God bless.

" Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm"
~ Winston Churchill

It is a very inspiring post - and a reminder that we all have and will continue to burn our fingers now and then.

Sometimes it is actually much more valuable because the thing we learn from our mistakes can be used for something we not even expected.

If you learned both Dreamweaver and Adobe Premier during your "failure," well that is not that bad! and you are only 22! I think you have a promising IM future ahead of you! :-)

What speaks to me, a couple of things is that you didn't give up after the first few failures. Also, you found a niche that started to make you money and you've stuck with it. Well done, I'm very pleased for you.

Awesome man, you are a real inspiration. Your persistence got you where you are.

And I like the quote from W. Churchill. I would add one, from T. A. Edison, if I may:

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."

We should not trying instead we can use those trials as a lesson. Our brain is very powerful, it will help us think of a solution or alternative on how to survive and be successful. This is a great story, it really helps us all to remember to never give up. There's one saying that I always follow to help me follow through-
When one door closes, another always opens.
I don't know how or why, but it's been true time and time again.

dude...that was an awesome post man! ANd so very true and inspiring really.

You see folks, listen to how this dude talks in his post....he knows that he is going to do whatever it takes to make money at home online. Yeah sure there are going to be a ton of obstacles to overcome and a bunch of failures along the way. But that is how it's supposed to be. You must fail...and learn..and fail...and learn...until finally one day....bing....the lightbulb goes off in your head and something happens inside you that will forever change the way you think.

You are in the 3% of folks who have actually stepped off that cliff...and knew that once you did...there is no looking back. You can only control the present...this moment right now. Forget about the past and all the crap that happened...forget about thinking about doom and gloom for your future based on past experience. Stop it now.

It's like driving a car while looking in the rear view mirror.

At a very young age, you have discovered that there is alot more out there in this world to go after....and you have had some success and have not given up.

Congrats to you brotha....keep at it and don't stop. In the long run you'll be so glad you did.
