My Thoughts On Marijuana

I don't know how weed works or changes your perceptions (I have a basic scientific understanding, but not depth).

However, I know that it changes my perceptions and increases my tendency and ability to think deeply.

I philosophize much better when I am high. And, when I'm not with other people in the room, I turn to writing it down (which means I can share it with the world, instead of a small group of immediately reachable people who might not get value from my philosophies).

This means that I come to realizations that could change my life (this has happened at least once, with the realization that perception is reality, and I think more often).

So I think weed changes the way you think (not worse or better, but a new view point). This is beneficial and fun.

P.S. It also makes everything sensationally good, better. Food, sex, reading, video, thinking, etc.

P.P.S. The experiment I'm doing to "see if I can make money off my blog" was devised after a particularly potent spliff.

P.P.P.S. A few days after writing this, I did The Marijuana Productivity Experiment (Going Live Tomorrow). Weed can be used as a productivity tool!

Hey, help me out. Tell me if this post if it was useful at all, so I know if I should keep writing, and who I should write to.

Whilst I don't smoke any more, I have to agree.

Most of my best ideas were pieced together when high and I would attack the pad and pen and get down more in 30 minutes than I could in a month normally.

The ability to think deeper and focus on the thoughts without "mind chatter" seemed to be the key for me

Marijuana is a stimulant plant, indeed one will be hyper-active and have all the full concentration to think one particular scenario or activities.

But don't get high too much, since research shows that smoking marijuana can cause eye disease known as "Glaucoma".

I don't know of any movers and shakers smoking weed.

Try meditation and fasting instead it will take you to the same place, won't cost you nothing, and you will definitely have a better chance at becoming a mover and shaker.

I don't do drugs that's the first thing. The second one I'm going to do a solo post to this thread and ask a question.

Mushrooms btw is more on the spiritual sides of things, mushrooms, peyote, but it's not recreational you need a teacher for that.

Dude... I dont know how young or old you are but here is some advice from a fellow ex pot head!

I used to smoke pot daily! In a garage with x-box, pizza and the electric guitar, total cliche!

Lay off the pot man. Seriously.

Pot is like any other chemical that alters your brain chemistry... they all lead to one thing. It messes your s**t up man!

Yes pot is cool, yes it makes you more philisophical, spiritual and maybe even helps you with Inter web marketing But the fact remains, it's a drug, it's a chemical and it alters your brain chemistry... but alter those chemicals too frequently and too much and your going to have issues. Crazy schizophrenia much?

Once you force that "chill-out, philosophy" door open once, twice, three times and then so many times more you break it. Thats when you mess with your brain and your mind.

If I'm out and someone says "here man you want a toke?" Sure, i'm a grown up and a little toke here never hurt anyone, but the whole smoking regularly thing will mess with you.

And more importantly five years from now when your still a pot head bum trawling this forum you'll remember this...

Good luck, lay off the weed...

First, cannabis isn't a chemical or a drugs it is a plant. THC is one of the active chemicals in weed and is the one I believe you are speaking of.

Second, implying that cannabis can only lead to your brain becoming negatively altered is completely wrong. There are so many other results that can be derived from it that to talk about them all would require me to write a book. Too name a few: cancer inhibition, hunger stimulation which is helpful in numerous diseases and chemotherapy, pain relief which is much safer and healthier than taking pharmaceuticals, fabric/clothing, rope and other textiles, a extremely good source of fiber from the seeds, ect. ect. ect.)

Third, schizophrenia is a condition (if you even believe it is a true disorder) that is not caused by cannabis. It is true that if a person already has symptoms or a tendency towards schizophrenia, that these tendencies can be amplified (meaning that it is really only showing a hidden part of yourself that you have yet to see). So in reality, cannabis doesn't bring about issues in the form of mental disorders, but it can have an undesired effect by surfacing issues previously mild or dormant.

This is also stereotypical and doesn't really have any ground. All cannabis does is one of two things: amplify one's personality or alter it (not usually the latter). Some people have a tendency to be lazy and this shows more when using cannabis. Others are extremely productive and more efficient because it's within their nature and character to be this way. It's all really relative and it could go either way depending on the person.

The OP also didn't state as far as I can see that he is a heavy user of cannabis, so assuming that he is I'd say is a little presumptuous. But I can definitely agree that the amount and frequency consumed will change how a person is effected by using it drastically.

Two definite negatives to cannabis use are:
        1. The possibility of addiction/overuse, which can be detrimentally harmful psychologically (just as any addiction can be).
        2. Smoking cannabis isn't as harmful as smoking cigarettes, but with inhaling any kind of smoke comes the risk of throat and lung health concerns. This includes throat and lung cancer among other issues. This problem can be avoided simply by eating/drinking cannabis instead of inhaling it.

Not trying to be rude, just stating my opinion and didn't want the people reading this topic to be misled.

you make a good point... and for those interested in getting a shaman's view on mental illness i would recommend reading this: What a Shaman Sees in A Mental Hospital | Earth. We are one.

although there are different strains of cannabis... so 1:1 ratio of CBD (an anti-psychotic cannabinoid proven to treat psychosis and schizophrenia) and THC wouldn't make things worse but makes things better obviously anything with more CBD than THC will not cause any problems...

I'm so glad to see this posted here... and surprised too. I LOOOOOVE weed. There are many times I've found that it helped my productivity because boring things became more tolerable. Sometimes I find that it can really help you focus on one thing until completion.

Of course there's the flip side. Sometimes marijuana makes me easily distracted or downright tired.

I prefer to use it after getting a lot done, as a kind of reward or way to wind down, but when using it in the daytime (when I get most of my work done), I would stick to using a vape and a Sativa-based strain because I feel these are the most conducive to productivity.

In my own opinion weeds is not bad but we can not deny the fact that it is addictive that eventually can ruin our lives. If we use it responsible then i think there's nothing wrong in it but sometimes we use it for not noble purposes.

    Hi,

I love smoking pot and I have to agree totally with Jessica Lyn about which strain works best for productive situations. Sativa is most definitely the strain you are looking for to get energized. While I also relate to what Andrei mentioned earlier: it is dangerous to get stuck in the habit of smoking all day because you can easily get caught in a negative spiral and it's really not that easy to go back to "normal"when this happens, as you start missing the high too much.

I have been incredibly productive on weed over the past year, and I do not believe in the stereotypes that are often provided by society ( in this case I find most people tend to be prejudiced towards its consumption.)

Weed can be very powerful used when you are in the best state of mind, meaning balanced and happy. Also I would think that weed has a different effect on different people, some just get tired from it, while others become hyper active. It really depends on your metabolism.

I had absolutely no idea that the "Self Improvement" forum would have a thread on "how good Marijuana is for your thinking.

OP your original post reads like you are trying to convince yourself how good it is for you and how much better you think and work when you smoke it. I spent months in a combat zone (Viet Nam) and saw darn good Marines screw their mind and careers up. Some of the Marines lost their life or limbs and even worse than that because they were "high or low, take your pick" their inability to perform their duties resulted in the death and injury of their fellow Marines.

And the guy who said it never killed anybody, you need to rethink that statement.

Jessica Lynn, I hope for your sake, that you didn't post this in a public forum thinking that no one will ever read it except for the WF members. Your public statement will be around as long as the WF is on line and their is a Internet. Folks and corporations will "Google" your name when you apply for jobs, insurance, credit and for whatever reason they have to check out your reputation.

Yes I'm up there in age but I never saw any reason to smoke or take any kind of illegal drugs to expand my horizons. Yes I did smoke regular cigarettes and drink 45 years ago but I learned these could cause more harm to me and my family, so I stopped.

I realize this a personal decision for each one of you here, but stay sober for 90 days and perhaps your philosophy and perspective will change. I challenge you to just try it.

I crafted my post without referencing any others opinions or sharing, however I think this post is exactly what I am attempting to illustrate, if the original poster comes up with ideas that increases his well being and ability to have a financial gain beyond his investment in the substance, then in this scenario it would be a great use of Marijuana, while living life. However seeing the poster put emphasis on the right subject his state of mind and its effects, which ultimately boils down to survival success or failure. The poster I quote points out how in other cases the substance is not worth the investment and only led to not only career failure, however loss of life and harm to limb. I would hope in this millennial time where we live unlike are forefathers in so many ways, that our parents and grandparents would hardly understand. We live in a world where at at least state level in many places people can live legitimate and prosperous lives with many jobs and careers in Marijuana consumption, if only we had a federal czar in the united states to work with every states county czar and sate czar we might actually paint a different future where the taboo decreases and we look at the comments for failure no different than when we see a successful person ruin their life consuming alcohol and at the same time witness others celebrate the great events of life "Popping Bottles". So I take all the negative post and life happenings with Marijuana in-like stride as we pray for the day when we deem illegal and do without it all, or accept the factors governing success and failure in fair and reasonable not disingenuous response and responsibility. Don't be candid and act like you don't know, it's bad cause it is illegal and we are using legal tender to get it, if it was legal the Christmas party, the wedding ceremony would be lets toke, and eat THC, for real!

It's incredible that people still think smoking marijuana automatically makes you stupid and unproductive.

It really depends on the person. Personally, I cannot be productive while intoxicated in any form or fashion.

But there is no way I'm going to condemn the use of a drug that is 10x less harmful than the asprin, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen that 90% of you probably have in your medicine cabinets.

Here are a few weed smokers that I look up to:

Francis Crick: Won the Nobel Prize for the discovery of double helix structure of the DNA.

Carl Sagan: Pulitzer Prize winning author, Emmy award winner, Co-Founder of Seti and the Planetary Society.

Joe Rogan: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, successful stand up comedian, UFC commentator.

Eddie Bravo: One of the most well known and iconic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blackbelts alive.

Kary Mullis: Another Nobel Prize winner. Developed a system that duplicates parts of DNA.

Michael Phelps: Won more Olympic gold medals than anyone in history.

Richard Branson: C'mon do I really need to elaborate on what he's accomplished? He's been known to get high with his son from time to time. And has stated on multiple occasions there's nothing wrong with it and would sell it if it were legal.

Michael Bloomberg: Here's a name that's synonomous with business and success. Here's what he's said when asked if he smoked weed, "You bet I did. And I enjoyed it."

I could go on and on...

Like I said, I'm not productive at all on weed. But the same goes for alcohol and any type of intoxicating drug. But it's not the drug, it's just how my body reacts to it.

My main niche is in Personal Development. I'm all about people finding what works for them and using any tools available to create the life they want to live. The only way I can truthfully do that is to be as unbiased as possible.

This holy grail of philosophical enlightenment the OP is speaking of is available to anyone who removes themselves from their normal frame.

For example: go outside, go for a walk, go to the woods or the beach or the desert, any interesting setting that is not part of daily life for you.

This stimulates you to think in ways you normally don't, because you are exposing yourself to stimulus you normally don't. Simple.

Pot allows you to do this without getting off the couch while not achieving even half the clarity. It permits you to become momentarily inspired without experiencing anything new. This all but breaks your incredible, sober ability to learn.

Forget the pot, go for a walk.

Overall 90% of the time I feel better when stoned. It really comes down to your brain chemistry and your ability to appreciate the experience.

For the inexperienced users... don't do a lot at first, there's a high chance it will induce a bad experience if you're not used to it.

The thing about weed is it's a mood enhancer. If you are the anxious type you will get paranoid. If you are the depressive type, there's a chance you'll become depressed.

I might be bipolar. So when I'm either anxious or bummed out I'll definitely feel it and will not have the greatest experience.

On the other end if you're feeling good you'll feel amazing.

I like indica if I'm physically sore. Otherwise it tends to make me sleepy which I do not like.

    I love sativa almost anytime.

Sativa allows me to actively do things while generally thinking optimistically. I feel more creative and just see anything in a new light. I've had peak experiences often on good bud.

Saying one needs pot to be creative is like saying one needs coffee to wake up in the morning. It's just dependency. Sure coffee will get me going, but an hour later I need some more and I start to get overly acidic, which makes me need to eat something (usually not good) which causes me to gain weight. So how good is that? A glass of purified water is very stimulating, so is eating a few fresh vegetables.

Sure marijuana stimulates the mind, for about an hour or so. Then the mind basically goes numb for the rest of the day. How great is that?

I'm not advocating prohibition, but using a substance as a crutch is never going to really get you to your goals.

Not at all, it's all in your mindset I find.

I've had days after being high where I just veg out all day...because that's what people told me I'd do.

I've had days where I find myself listening to a Joe Rogan podcast or watching a documentary about all the stuff we've seen so far in our universe, because I'm so focused and fascinated by it.

And, I've had days, like after the marijuana productivity experiment, where I was just uber productive.

      ---

One big influencer is what you eat. When you load up on yummy junk food, the next day usually goes slow because you feel heavy and bloated.

But when you don't eat much, and eat good stuff, the next day rolls quite remarkably.

Well, I smoked a lot too and I have a few words to say about it. If you have the urge to sometimes get high through something, weed is absolutely the best solution. However, I recommend everybody to get rid of this urge, because it won't help you in any way.

It lets you believe that it makes you happy, but it's just an illusion. YOU make yourself happy. Just by manipulating yourself enough with positive thoughts, you can make yourself way more happy than weed could ever make you.

Also, it increases your emotional IQ, but your rational IQ decreases. So, forget to work on IM while smoking, it won't do any good.

Last but not least... stop smoking, stop taking drugs, adjust your diet, train your body and mind hard and you will be happier than with any drug and no issue will bring you down.

The best drug on earth still remains the same: freaking hard training! MMA for live :p

    warm regards,

Ah but emotional IQ is what is used in great writing. Seeing as the majority of my work (and a lot of people's work) is writing that influences the reader's emotions, a high emotional IQ is a great boost for doing good work.

Tried it a few times, but never really liked it or got anything positive out of it. Every time I was high I just wished that I was sober again. In my eyes smoking a joint is the same as drinking a glass of good wine in the evening or having a nightcap
Again there are some people who have tendencies of getting addicted and so on. Everything is not for everyone. I've seen some occasional users turn into everyday smokers who just lie around at their flat every single day and live of from the income support or supplementary benefit. Sad thing about these people is that whenever I would see them somewhere all they could talk about was weed or some other drugs. But hey, same thing goes along with alcohol.

I have my own mixed feelings about smoking pot, but to those that say this discussion does not belong in the mindset forum, you're wrong...and honestly you sound a bit fascist to me. This is the perfect forum to discuss marijuana and effects it has on ones mindset and motivation. Just because you may not like it, or think it can't be a helpful tool, doesn't mean everyone agrees with you. This is a discussion forum and we're all (or at least most of us) adults...and it's even legal now in many parts of the world, whether you like it or not.

So whatever your feelings are towards marijuana, good, bad, horrible, share them here. But dont say it doesn't belong on a mindset and wellness forum...because you just sound like a Nazi asshole.

I don't think it is a good thing to do if you don't have a lot of money coming in. Humans are unique due to evolution, We have evolved to the point of being aware of being aware, for our survival. Not to discount faith or any other non-material, spiritual or mental exercise, the optimum goal has been successful survival. This development of the brain has led us to believe in spirit and contemplate the workings of the mind. however the overall reason for the evolutionary mutation is successful survival as a species individual or group. When we observe our life from this viewpoint, we can truthfully better filter our actions and thought process. In our millennial society, with all the natural trappings of fear and danger remove, the ultimate successful survival happens to be up to you and your community to define, as such if smoking weed and 'philosophizing' Gets you that success then may you increase in your practice. Always keep in mind we are just beings floating in space on a sphere, eating, drinking, sleeping, and shite, how it goes down and up is up to you, do it with love and love under will

I have such a hatred for people that say smoking pot messes up your memory and brain chemistry.

If you're telling me that smoking everyday is bad, then I disagree. I smoke everyday, and I'm 'successful' in the things I do.

If you're telling me that smoking ALL day everyday is bad, then yes. Hell yes it is.

My three personal rules when it comes to smoking?
    1. Smoke at night, prior to going to sleep, when there's no work to be done.
    2. No more than one smoke a day.
    3. When available, go for the vaporizer. Healthy/very minimal damage on the lungs and conserves your green stuff.
