Do you need to hit rock bottom before sucess?

A lot of successful people like George Brown, Jared Croslow and some other that you probably know of have these stories. These stories often involve making a huge mistake or being in such a bad place that it leads them to want to change and then they end up doing very well for themselves. So my question is do you guys think that hitting rock bottom is necessarily before making a real change?

I know from experience that I myself have had nothing catastrophic happen in my life so I guess I have not had the pleasure of hitting rock bottom yet.

No I don't believe so, as I can see it going both ways. In every situation we are encountered with, you have a choice - a choice to either do something (change) or not. I have seen many people hit rock bottom and never seem to be able to find their way out. I also have seen people achieve success without ever having to deal with any major hardships in life.

While I do agree that those who hit rock bottom (assuming the desire for change is there) have a huge potential to excel faster than others because they are presented with a do or die situation, I don't think it's a requirement for attaining success.

I agree. Everyone makes mistakes, which is part of the learning curve. But you don't necessarily have to hit rock bottom to achieve success. You need to have a strong desire to succeed. That's the ultimate driver for success.

    No,

you can learn to define what success means to you ..without hitting rock bottom . it is a matter of who's life you are trying to live and who's road map your trying to copy .. before those fake lives fall away or get taken away and you have to learn your own way that fits you ..

It all depend on the determination and the will to success. It also depends on the decisions your making in your life. It might be trial and error but its better to start and fall than never tried and failed

I think when people hit rock bottom they enter what is called 'survival mode'. They HAVE to create money because they have no option. And that is only in the financial sense. There are many different types of rock bottom's out there I presume.

Having said that, as Liz said there are so many people out there who have succeeded and really haven't had it that hard. Which isn't a bad thing.

That almost made me cry no joke. That was a very great and inspirational video. I do not believe that is absolutely unnecessary for people to hit rockbottom to succeed but I do think that it just pushes and motivates them to go the extra mile and push harder to succeed.

some of us are stubborn and have to get splatted against the rocks before we even know what changes we need to make ...

I myself pretty much ended up broken at the bottom in all areas of life 3 years ago ..mentally, physically , spiritually , financially , socially , family .

mentally ,physically and spiritually i am doing much better ... but i need to get away from my real family to massively improve everything ..they have a way of crushing any sense of self worth i manage to cobble together and destroying my sales when i get wind in them ...

If you have supportive people in your life who make you better you can thrive without hitting rock bottom .. if you don't it take hitting rock bottom and realizing who you need to get out of your life to turn it around .. many time when you hit rock bottom it is at that point the people who care stay in your life and the people who don't care look for other people to bring down ..

Well, "Robbo" says that "people only change when it becomes too uncomfortable to stay the same". For some it's getting to rock bottom, for others it's when they stop growing at a certain pace. Hopefully none reading this thread will need to hit "rock bottom" before tweaking their methods because that would be like waiting until you have a horrific car accident before you lift your foot off the floor or turn your wheel.

This about sums it up in a nutshell.

Sometimes it takes for a person to be damn near homeless before it's too much, then for some people it only takes waking up one morning and making the choice.

I think it's all about that 'thing' or series of things that takes place in our lives that pushes us to finally make a choice to transition from where we are, to where we want to be. And it don't have to be all bad and stressful.

But I see people in those " you don't want success bad enough" posts that seem to insinuate that those of us still procrastinating, or whatever don't want success bad enough but I think that's wrong to generalize success like that because the choice for success can manifest out of desperation or just the mere decision to take action BEFORE life get's worse.

I actually found a glitch in my belief systems that was actually looking for the stressful situation that I felt should be aggravating or stressful enough to be the thing that pushes my button. That in a sense was attracting even more situation like it into my life.

Some of us have never wondered where I next meal was coming from, or living in fear of living in the streets and I'm one of them, and I'm also a person that has dreamed big dreams for a long time but have never made the CHOICE to align my thoughts, my actions, and my focus with my dreams.

Achieving success will happen, actually it has happened for us from the moment we started desiring it....,
it's just waiting on us to individually decide when to live it.

For me it's having a great reason. A really good 'why?'. Most people assume rock bottom = no money, but it can also mean a life so controlled by others that all you can think about is escape.

I would guess that the people most unlikely to succeed are those who are 'comfortable'. That is, they have a job paying enough. They are in a relationship that is 'OK'. But they would 'like' a bigger house or bigger holiday or more money. None of those are good enough reasons to change a comfortable life I would have thought.

Maybe this is why so many gurus push the 'get out of your comfort zone' thing. To force you to be uncomfortable with what you have?

This works for me also. If you want to see a series of re-defining yourself and finding your "why" over and over again then watch the Rocky series of movies.

It is not nessary, but it is part of life.
Success comes with alot of trial and error. Out of 1000 'failures' there will be 1 success.
But when you love what you do then there no such thing as failure, because the process is fun.

I think it's necessary to experience rock bottom before you reach success because you wouldn't know what success felt like without it.
