Went to bed at 11 PM. Quite early for me, but it was easy as I was already tired from waking up early yesterday .

It just takes a day or two to get the ball rolling, then you'll be tired in the evening and be able to go to sleep earlier.

    Cheers!

      Not true.

I have been averaging 5 hours of sleep per night for the past 5 years since I became a full time entrepreneur.

I just had my annual physical and my health is fine. I exercise and eat healthy. I wake up at 4am every day (5am on Saturdays and sleep in until 8 on sundays).

I think it is important to challenge conventional "wisdom" and experts who tell you how much sleep you need. I know sleep is healthy and required but theres no possible way to say every single person "needs" 7 or 8 hours... who says so?

The "slept for a few hours" part takes care of itself after a few days, if you're stubborn enough to keep getting up at 5 AM. But yes you're right, that's when it gets easy

I find that, if I am looking forward to what I am doing, I can't get to sleep in the first place and often work through the night, fall asleep at about 5am and don't get up untill 12pm.

My mum has trained me well when I was a kid, I must get to bed at 10:00pm and wake up at 6:00am for school, during weekend must wake up at 7:00am and follow her to market.

She told me that being a girl must have a discipline life (my mum has a traditional mindset). But now I'm 32, I still keeping this habit, but now everyday I will get to bed before 12am ....I found that I can do many things in a day if I can wake up early......

    Thanks to my mum!

    Cheers

Ha. But it's also so easy to go to sleep at 5 AM...

... when you can't sleep because of all the things you've been doing all day and just never want the day to end.

Not when you have kids in the mix.

Do whatever works best for you - is the point.

I SHOULD wake up at 5am because my time of total quiet and peace is before the alarms of screaming kids sounds at 8am. Once they are up, it's game time with them, so a good nights rest is a must otherwise everyone suffers (and the guilt settles if I don't have enough energy to be "present" for my kids all day).

This was actually a great reminder for me... simply because when I have woken up early and had those three hours of quiet time to focus on work, the rest of my day seems to go smoother.

OK just one, but still, I can totally relate. And he wakes up before the alarm, ha ha. Actually, I don't even need an alarm with him around (unless it's set to 5 AM )

I've been trying to get up at 5am for the last few months and just can't seem to do it. I have 2 mobile phones with a combined 6 alarms, plus I have the radio clock set too. I wake up just enough to turn them all off and go back to sleep, it's really frustrating. I still get up before 9am but I'm sure I'd have more productive days if I could just get up a few hours earlier. Plus I could go for a run first thing instead of later in the day and having to take two showers.

I've been a night owl for so many years and it's the only bad habit I've not been able to break consistently. Any ideas?

Steve Pavlina explains here a way that may work for you : How to Become an Early Riser

He says you need to "train" / "condition" yourself to just jump out of bed instantly when the alarm goes off and do some routine without even thinking. I think it's good stuff.

There was a moment in my life recently where for 3 months I actually woke up at exactly 6am every single morning without an alarm.

I would go to sleep sometimes early, sometimes late, but would be wide awake at 6am.

It was the best I had ever felt in my entire life when it came to sleep.

      Here's my technique.

Play video games before you go to bed...

      Simple.

I swear it worked for me, I became exhausted, went to sleep, but was fresh in the morning.

It is easier than a lot of people think. I used to be up at around 10 AM but changed a lot over the past few months. It's amazing how much extra you can get done if you wake up early.

I use an iPhone app called 'Sleep Cycle' and it's very, very effective. I don't need it anymore though since it's (kind of) become a habit.

It's just a matter of intention.. When you intend and have a great reason to do it, you can achieve it. 5AM or 30 minutes of power sleep or anything.
