Do you think your mindset has any affect on your success as an internet marketer?

Over the last few days I've seen people discussing personal development works and how/why it relates to their internet marketing business. It seems people are in one of two camps:

1. They think it's generally self-help guru crap and has no real impact on one's success.
2. They attribute their success directly to the ideas and principles.

Surprisingly, their doesn't seem to be many people who are in-between. They either like it or they think it's silly.

As an internet marketer and business owner, do you think that your mindset has any affect on your success? Why or why not?

    Does for me...

Proper mindset encourages confidence which leads to risk taking and stepping outside of my comfort zone.

Proper mindset helps me to think through problems instead of having an unhealthy dependence on others and their products and services.

Proper mindset helps me to enforce restraints upon myself (such as time and finances to spend of marketing,) this makes me work harder in a shorter amount of time and use my money wisely.

Proper mindset can be pervasive throughout my life, family and friends get the benefits too.

Proper mindset also leads to self obsession.......

    Ummm...

    Better stop there.

Mindset is definitely where success start. In order to take action,or make any decision, your mind would have to gear toward that one thing you want to succeed from.

    Defiantly.

In any aspect of life your mindset has a massive impact on your success.

In sports its called mental toughness, whilst in other aspects its simply the desire to succeed.

What worries me the most is that over the last few months I'm seeing more and more business owners develop a very negative mindset on running their businesses, focusing on problems rather than working out solutions.....and that cannot be good!

This is basically what I'm trying to get at.

Whether one believes that the way they think about their life/business/marketing etc has a direct impact on their success?

For example, some people are extremely adamant in saying that the first step towards success is a shift in mindset, while others say it's something else (usually knowledge, experience, or something more technical and concrete).

Some stuff is good, and some is just terrible - who knew?

It's like anything in life. If you get some valuable advice, take that knowledge and put it to use in your business or personal life. Whether it's a self help book or an Internet marketing book, if you don't use it, it's useless anyway.

I definitely think...hold on scratch that, I KNOW that your mindset will affect your success and really anything else in your life. A couple years ago i was having so much trouble with any type of success online, The problem was that i had an generalized anxiety disorder and it can definitely take a toll on you mentally and physically.

It wasn't until i got help for the problem i was having when i noticed my productivity went up, i started to feel way better mentally and i was making cash here and there online( which was better then nothing at the time).

Yes it does, however positive thinking alone won't cut it. To be successful, you need to understand the difference between believing you will succeed, and believing you will succeed easily.

In other words you need to be a realistic optimist. Realistic optimists not only believe they will succeed, they also believe they have to make success happen, while unrealistic optimists believe success will happen to them, which of course is a lie.

It all starts in the mind my man... I know... seams like a bunch of "woo woo" crap... myself like many others have (or in my case had) an attitude of "once i make a crapload of dough I'll fix my mind".

Doesn't work that way. In fact in my case all I'll say is before I went from wondering how the hell I'd feed my 2 kids to selling 25MM online there was one key shift in my mind...

I literally went from thinking "How can I help me" to "How can I help you". Yes, there where a few other contributing factors but that really is the jist of it.

Mainly you gotta dump the victim/poverty mindset that most people have and don't fall prey to believing sales letters that say "It's not your fault"... because it absolutely is.

Robert, the mindset is all that
you have to do the right thing
as opposed to the wrong thing
    when you achieve a result

    Failure and Success are both

    you got it

    R E S U L T S

If you do have the right

    M I N D S E T

How will you be able to stay

Rob, I like your question. Reminds of those college essays I liked the most. LOL

Generally speaking, the success or failure of a person can be attributed to his or her mindset. It is about how strong or weak the person's mindset is.

Personally, when I set my mind to accomplish anything, I treat it either as a daily commodity that I can't live without, or a common sense. I make sure that I have a strong mindset before I take the flight. I define a 'strong mindset' as something that requires a person to be self-sufficient. Why do I compare my strong mindset to a daily commodity or a common sense? It is because I don't have to be reminded that I need to eat some food everyday. I don't have to be reminded me that I need to breathe in and breathe out to live. I don't have to be informed that I need to wear some clothes before I step out of the door and walk on the street.

My mindset paints my future. My thinking becomes my reality.

      I certainly agree.

You can also put it in another way. As you said you don't have to be reminded to eat, when one has successful beliefs, their very way of being is conducive to producing results.

Belief is the mental equivalent of physical breathing, because the mind does not need to be reminded of values/ideals/ways of being that are strong enough to be a called a belief. So, if one believes in their ability to succeed it doesn't really become a question of "if" anymore, it becomes a question of "when."

Hit the nail on the head! It does and it will affect your success. Having the proper mind-set, among other things, let's you focus more on your goal allowing your business to go into the direction needed, it let's you eliminate things that you don't need to do and etc.

    Very interesting topic.

These following two mindsets represent the extreme ends on either side of a spectrum.
A fixed mindset comes from the belief that your qualities are carved in stone – who you are is who you are, period. Characteristics such as intelligence, personality, and creativity are fixed traits, rather than something that can be developed.

A growth mindset comes from the belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through effort. Yes, people differ greatly – in aptitude, talents, interests, or temperaments - but everyone can change and grow through application and experience.

Of course... Ask yourself, what can you do, when you are in a bad mood? How effectively can you work, when you mind is down and you are not motivated?

If you can motivate yourself, you can work far more effectively and persistently rather than if you are down...

Mindset obviously has a huge effect on your future success.

With a crap mindset you will get nowhere.

The best "mindset" that works for me is staying true to myself and to who I am. Over the past 2 years I have done a lot of reading on self-improvement/self-help, things like that, but it didn't really help me - I tried to focus on the good things, think positive, etc., but at the end of the day I found myself lying to myself in some cases.

But that's just me, maybe I got the whole law of attraction concept wrong - I just always try to see the reality the way it is and take things for what they really are.

Therefore, with this attitude I won't ever promote a product that I know is garbage - Just because it has a high Clickbank gravity or something like that - in fact, CB gravity is one of the most misunderstood things and promoting high-gravity products is a mistake a lot of people make.

Your mindset has an impact on everything you do and that includes internet marketing.

If you take someone who gives up on every course that they purchase because they don't see success right away versus someone who is persistent and takes any set back as a challenge to overcome, who do you think is going to be more likely to succeed? Obviously the second person.

Mindset is not just some theory. If you have a positive mindset your going to be able to overcome challenges much more easily.

I am definitely one of those "in between" people.

Meaning I think you need to choose your emotions and adapt them to life. Always being positive can be bad and always being negative can be bad.

With athletes its been said there are absolutely no emotions involved. During competition you must be numb and absorbed 100% into the game. This means you don't get emotional. Eben Pagan talks about this in his "Get Altitude" marketing seminar. When you don't get emotional, too happy or negative, you tend to make better decisions. .

Dude ah yea...you're mind set is everything...especially in this biz.

    Why?

Well it's simple really...if you're one who has constant monkey chatter going on inside your head...and it's of a defeating nature...then that mind set will lead to frustration...and crappy results.

However....if you're mind set is one of belief....meaning you know for certain that you're gonna make your home biz work....then it will. No amount of obstacles or bumps in the road will hault your success. Having the right mindset to be successful is a must.
