What I did to increase my productivity and happiness

I know a lot of you people like and depend on staying up to date with the news on mainstream media. But, according to studies about 95% of the news are negative and they affect you in a negative way and give you a skewed view of the world. The world is not as shitty as portrayed by them and there is no reason why you should read about catastrophes and war every single day. It has already happened and you can't do anything about it.

I have now stayed away from mainstream media for a while and I'm much happier and I'm also using time I used to waste on reading news to do productive things that improves my life and makes me happy. The key point is doing what makes you happy or improves your life.

Take the challenge and try to stay off mainstream media for 1 week and notice how you start to feel better and are able to focus more on your work without thinking about bad things that has happened. You get that negative "vibe" you feel washed off.

I had to block the sites i visited most frequently in the hosts file since you usually visit those sites on "auto-pilot". That's a good tip if you want to try.

Stay happy and live a good life

    You are right.

Reading negative news only changes our mental state and paralyzes us not to take action.

I have lessened my exposure to negative news (although i cannot get rid of it completely, because they are eye-catchers).

I generally schedule a time to read news item quickly (within 10-15 minutes). This helps.

Also, having the goals and plans in front of me really helps. They keep my mind focused on what I actually want to achieve.

      Well said mate.

Every day when I buy my newspaper (the only one which does not "hype it up", I scan all the other front pages. Usually negative claptrap.

It was VERY notable that during the Olympics (I am in the UK) every single front page was positive on many days occasions. I don't ever remember that before.

Unfortunately, good news doesn't sell! And the punter can't be wrong. People want shock and horror.

Best either to stay away, as you say, or get the Financial Times LOL.

Can you really stay out of the mainstream media? there is definitely a lot of negativity in the media but I think you can program your mind to filter negativity and only accept positive news.
