How to change your life in 2 minutes

Your body language doesn't only influence how others see you, but also how you see yourself.

Do yourself a favor and don't miss out on this great talk about how tiny tweaks can bring about big changes.

This reminds me of something that Tony Robbins suggested years ago about how body language affects your state of mind:

"straighten your body, pull your shoulders back and look straight up to the sky (or ceiling) and smile as big as you can; then try to feel depressed or negative without changing your posture or any of your features"

IE. while smiling at the sky and standing perfectly erect.

You should also try the power poses. They work as well .

well i wonder .. because it would seem people who work on their computers especially lap top .. might have to be aware of posture that both may cause damage in the long term..and reduced confidence as you work.. just by the way you sit while typeing ..

It's maybe hard to always be thinking about this while working. A solution would be to take regular breaks and walk around the room doing power poses for a couple of minutes.

Great video. I need to remind myself about my posture every time I work and sit in front of my computer.

Great video. It remindes us to pay more attention to our posture because we can send false messages if we do not know how to stay or gesture. Thanks for sharing this video! I'll use it as an example for the students that I teach now. Thanks again! Have a nice day all of you!

simply not crossing your arms helps a lot. mirroring other people's body behavior also really helps.

I've actually read that mirroring is not such a good idea if it's too obvious as it might make people feel uncomfortable. Also, if you mirror an arms crossed position you're actually inhibiting communication, right?

Apparently as we talk to each other, our bodies have a way of synchronizing imperceptibly on their own. Seth Godin explained it in his Tipping Point.

      Great stuff!

This works because unlike the conscious mind, the unconscious mind is very easy to fool. Similarly to not sitting in a tiny pose, you should never call yourself a "stupid idiot" when you spill your coffee for example. The people who use this type of language to themselves (even in their heads) are the least confident types of people.

      Other phrases to avoid:
      Knowing my luck,
      that's typical,
      story of my life...etc

I now do this daily.. I noticed that I already DID do this occasionally but had no idea what effects it had psychologically!

    Glad to know though.

    Thanks for the post!

I began working on my body language a few years ago. It has come to the point where the body language is now occurs naturally, but it didn't happen over night.

Don't be discouraged if at first it doesn't stick. You need to consciously work on it for a long time.

Great point! I've actually noticed a difference of language among my friends. Those who call themselves "stupid" or "failures" tend to in fact fail and act stupid much more often than those who never use this kind of language.

Also phrases like "I can't afford it" or "I don't have money for that" can have the same effect. It might be true, but just don't say it, and, more importantly, don't repeat it.

To me it's always been obvious that how you carry yourself affects how you experience the world and how the world responds to you. I didn't realise that such a big physiological change would happen after just 2 minutes of using a power posture - aren't our brains and bodies brilliant!

That's funny, I noticed it too. I guess she didn't have time for her power poses before the speech .
