New Year Resolution - Did it stick?

Every year I start a thread here about new year resolution and offer help to follow warriors who feel that they can use some to make their new year resolutions stick.

So here we go again for 2013. It is only 40 days left for the new year. Did your resolution stick in 2012?

According to wikipedia, "88% of those who set New Year resolutions fail, despite the fact that 52% were confident of success at the beginning":

New Year's resolution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you were successful, share your story that will inspire fellow warriors. If you tried your best but failed and want to try something different and unconventional, for your 2013 resolution, rather than trying the same method again and again and expect different result.

Wish you all the best with your 2013 new year resolutions.

I stopped and quit smoking this year. It was my new year's resolution for 2012. I now do marathon and it feels great.

Continue to walk straight do the right thing...leave anything unpleasant, discouraging experience and memories of the past. Keep moving forward

I guess I should have written down some new years resolutions last year, I don't think I did, so I don't know if they stuck or not...

For next year, be more positive as a parent and cut out the negative enforcements. Less 'Don't do that!'s and more positive power of suggestion.
As parents we always have to say "DON'T" at least sometimes to protect our children, sometimes even to save their lives or remove them from imminent danger... However it's really easy to use that method to attempt to keep them from doing what they should not, when it's much more effective to advise them on what they should be doing instead.

I make sure I write it down and add visuals using my 'dream' board. That way, I make them a reality as much as I can.

Yep! My main resolution for 2012 was to get a full time job to support myself after my studies so I could focus on setting up a sustainable online business. Next up for 2013 is to go full time online which I'm pretty sure I will achieve

Hmmm. In my long experience of this sort of stuff I find resolutions kind of set folks up for failure. And simply because either they are A. unreasonable or B. Ill thought out.

I wrote a new blog post on my personal development blog (The Buddy Show) about how to set yourself up for success. I got the idea (as I say in the blog) from a post on the Deep Existance blog by Stephen Guise.

I'm kinda with Billy on this one. In the past, any time someone asked me about my resolutions for the new year, I didn't have any. I honestly don't think anyone else should, either.

That probably sounds kinda sh*tty. What I mean is that waiting for the new year to start work on your goals is a total cop out, isn't it? We should be conditioning ourselves to start work on ourselves NOW, not waiting "26 days until January 1st."

There are a LOT of people that resolved to get into shape this year that have already quit. I've seen it in the gym I go to. I haven't seen them or talked to them since they're not there, but I bet a lot of them are thinking, "well, I'll try it again next year." That's crap. If you want to improve or work toward something, start NOW.

That said, anything to get somebody to improve themselves is a good thing. I'm sure a lot of people have stuck to their goals too.

Resolutions/goals are great to make and the new year is as good a time as the other times during the year that you make them.

However I think most people pick stuff that's not fun/what they really want... Quit smoking, go to the gym, then they try to start while hungover on the first of Jan, what's worse is they give up after just one failure. That's my experience of talking with people I meet out and a about.

My resolutions for this year: meet more people, go to dinner with friends more often, have fun and laugh more. I doing really well with them so far:-)

What's interesting about resolutions is that often they focus on what you want to get away from, not what you want. That's backwards thinking, because what you focus on, you attract!

I love your resolutions: meet more people.... laugh more, etc.

      Focus on what you WANT!

That's a very smart way of looking at it. I should try to switch the wording of some of my goals around.

Maybe "Drink much less" can be replaced with "wake up early ALERT and start being productive right away daily." Or something like that.

So far so good, I'm doing better with my personal resolutions than with my work resolutions, but I'm still sticking to both. :-)

In fact I am about to register for a race in a couple months which will "encourage" me to keep up the workouts (atleast until the race ;-)

  • Goodness. I never even made a New Year's Resolution. I guess I never have been in the habit of doing that exercise.

Now that you got me thinking about it I will consider doing one that I can stick with in 2014.

That is the best I can do at this point aside from keeping up with my daily goals. After all, I have 24 hours every day like Zig Ziglar says.
