19th Century Entrepreneur's Advice To Internet Marketers

I ran across this in PT Barnum's book The Art of Money Getting. It's a brief quote that speaks volumes, and should be kept in mind by all those new to Internet marketing. Remember this was published in 1882.

LET HOPE PREDOMINATE BUT BE NOT TOO VISIONARY

Many persons are always kept poor, because they are too visionary. Every project looks to them like certain success, and therefore they keep changing from one business to another, always in hot water, always "under the harrow." The plan of "counting the chickens before they are hatched" is an error of ancient date, but it does not seem to improve by age.

We always hear "focus, focus, focus" but I never really thought of lack of focus being due to assuming every project will succeed.

I bought the public domain reprint before I knew about that biz model. Example here: Amazon.com: Art of Money Getting: P T Barnum,...Amazon.com: Art of Money Getting: P T Barnum,...

Thanks for this. Love his writing. Favorite part is Chapter 18 which is what most of this forum is with all the people willing to pay it forward.

    Much success to all.

Great quote! It is so easy to jump on the next thing that looks good, rather than sticking with something to the end.
