The Science of Getting Rich

Hi Guys,

This post is an introduction and a question at the same time. My name is Chris and I am from Amsterdam. I am a newbie and at the same time I am not. I learned about online marketing from Corey Rudl. I didn't do anything with it for years, but kept on learning about online marketing / businesses during the years after that. Now I am ready to do something with it.

Before I did not have the right mindset. Since then I read the book "Think and Grow Rich" written by Napoleon Hill. This book was inspiring and changed a lot for me. It teaches that nothing is impossible. I don't know if there have ever been other people who have been interviewing the same millionaires and billionaires over and over again for a period of 20 or 30 years like he did.

What I learned from Hill is that these people act and think differently than "regular people" do, but that these super succesful people use the same methods and techniques as each other. The book also teaches that that the right mindset and vision is the key to succes. I learned that Napoleon Hill's book sold over 100 million times through only mouth to mouth advertising, which makes it one of the most sold and read books in the world. Amazing example of ancient viral advertising :-)

Other books I read is The Science of Getting Rich, Acres of Diamonds, As A Man Thinketh and The Master Key System. These books teach more or less the same principle and are inspiring to me and apparently to a lot of other people. They also taught me to not ask my neighbour or people who are not succesful, but to learn from real succesful people. Of course it is a no-brainer to ask succesful people instead of people who say: When you are born for a dime you will never be a quarter"'. Now I am aware of the glitch in my programming I see other people asking their neigbour who is not succesful how to be succesful ! Funny if you think about it !

Especially in my country where they chop your head off if you become to succesful. Not everybody is like that, but the majority acts like that. Don't know how that is in other countries, but here it is so common we even have a saying for people that become to succesful. That can be somewhat of an obstacle to overcome when you are starting out.

What books have you read about mindset and succes. Which books would you advise to read or which people inspire you !

Happy Holdidays,

Chris

    Hi Chris
Its nice that you inspired by those readings. But success needs Action. So quickly you react after reading, so fast you close to your success. As it is said that 'Chance favors the prepared mind'.

As you mentioned about that book sold 100 million times but it did not created 100 million 'millionaires' but only those who took action as soon as they reached the last page. I recommend you to read this report 7 Great Lies About Network Marketing and check the Lie# 6 in particular.

If you dont have much Internet Marketing knowledge or mean to start something your own, I highly recommend you to check this as a Starting Point.

In short what I wanted to say that you don't need lots of inspirational readings (though it plays role) but the fact is how quickly you take actions.

    Reading+Action= Success

Two words - Remarkably Awesome! Thanks for sharing your story Chris! It really doesn't need a genius to figure this out----> working your way to the top is not a requisite to success! Success is given, making it to the top is not!

Absolutely correct, I have found that daily feeding of staying in the right mindset (includes working on a continuing growth plan that focuses on recognizing and building on your strengths and learning to manage your weaknesses) AND taking action each day is very important.

I learned that from Corey as well...it was the fact that he went from working in the automobile industry to actually having the ba**s to write one of the very first ebooks on giving people an "insider's" view of the car industry with Car Secrets Revealed.

But he didn't stop there, he went about creating many of the marketing methods and tools we take for granted today such as email campaigns, list management, affiliate programs, credit card payment, etc...before tools like aweber, shoppingcarts, paypal, etc...

Talk about obstacles and having an ACTION oriented mindset.

As usual, when you study successes it is just as important to study what they DID as it is to listen to what they teach/talk about.

In terms of what I read/watch to stay motivated...I spend most of my time studying successes like Richard Branson, Gary V, Steve Jobs, Tony Robbins, etc.... Anyone at the top of their game, I try to disect and tear apart their businesses - always learn a ton that way - that motivates me big time.

      Chris,

My experience is that many folks love to read and think about "mind set" philosophies and ideas that will bring the world to their doorstep.

There is a place for that, of course, but for many it becomes an overpowering quest and the dream of riches takes center stage and becomes an obsession.

Goals and plans without smart action are merely wishes. And wishes soon take the place of dreams to the point that they become "the impossible dream."

Hill's books are great, but as has been mentioned, how many of the readers of his millions of books sold have actually followed through and become exceptionally wealthy? It obviously takes more than just thinking about a goal (mindset) to make it come true.

I love this short passage from the Bible (which by the way, has a lot of wealth building advice):

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." James 1:22 (emphasis mine)

      Good luck to you,

      Steve

Wow what quick responses and helpful ones too ! Reading + Action = Succes - That is a good formula to go by ! Psycho Cybernetics I have read about that. It is interesting and helpful stuff. But I agree mindset is not the only thing, you have to have a plan and take action.

About Napoleon Hill I know there are people who read the book who procrastinate or don't follow through. On the other hand I know a few selfmade millionaires who have used Napoleons Hills book as their blueprint for success. I agree with you Steve B. Let actions speak louder than words is the modern version or not :-) I think these books are a good read for people to see that nothing is impossible and it can help them to change their mindset !

About Corey Rudl. I had just finished his course and then I got the email he died. For me it felt like he really wanted to help people to overcome the obstacles he encountered when setting up his business. I was shocked when I got the email from his wife.

I think the biggest thing I learned from these books is said in these two quotes:

"Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, 'What's in it for me?"

“To be normal is the ideal aim of the unsuccessful"

I am going overboard here, but I like quotes, they have motivated me to take action !

So If you have any inspirational quotes I am all ears :-)

    Hello chriz,

Your post is really valuable and thank you very much for sharing your thoughs with us.

First of all I believe that you don't have to read a lot of ebooks about mindset and inspirations. I consider that reading two great ebooks about setting your goal is enough in order to help you to start.

After that you have to concentrate on psychology of human behaviours and learn the process of making money online. There are ton of ebooks and online information about the skills you have to develop in order to start testing & tracking and see what works and what doesn't.

    Thank you,
    Zouras

New Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz is also a good read.

Mindset is definitely a great part in achieving success, so you have
to quickly change the idea that your head will get chopped off
for being successful--it's not worth your head.

Love this!! I'm reminded of this almost daily during mountain biking season, and it translates very well into business. What used to scare the hell out of me in years past is now an obstacle I look forward to riding over... and it's the same with what used to scare me as an entrepreneur. Anytime I'm really scared I just say to myself, "Someday I'll look back at this and laugh at how badly it scared me." It's true, too!

    Hey Chris,

I definitely understand the "Chop your Head Off" line. Most dutch people don't like to see successful people around them. It's shitty but it is true.. Important thing is to surround yourself with loving, positive and caring people. People who really want to see you succeed, know what i mean?

I rather have 4 close people who support me on the way to success than have 100 "friends" who really don't care about your future nor success.

I live in The Netherlands as well and i also have read The Science of Getting Rich. It is a certain state of mind to live by every single second. Persistence is KEY

    Bless

    Here you go

      I like it Abbe77, keep'm coming :-)

Patho nice to know there are other Dutch people on this forum."The Chop Your Head Of" mentality I don't know if that only goes for The Netherlands, but it is deeply ingrained in our culture. I hear that in the US people get thumbs up when people are succesful or have obtained The American Dream. But that is generalizing and might not be completely true ! Maybe the people on this forum living in America can shine their light on how they experience that !

I agree with you that you can better have 4 people who support you than 100 people whether "friends" or even family. I have stopped telling the people around me what I do, cause I got a lot of negative feedback / jealousy and even wanting to see me fail. For me that is even more motivation to be positive and succeed in the things I do.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort :-)

Humor for me is the way to deal with that. It is not their fault though as they have been programmed the wrong way by society as I was. Prejudices about rich / succeful people and money people is keeping them away from wealth and success. I used to think like that, but now I see how I was blocking myself with these limiting beliefs ! Persistence is KEY I agree and out the door with procrastination! There ain't nothing to it than to do it ! :-)

Yes I also agree that its not a good option to tell people around you what you do. Especially about online business. Everybody has its own taste and way of living. I know lots of people who are satisfied with their jobs, just wake up in the morning, go to office/work, sit in front of computer until 5pm, do what their boss says like send emails, pay bills to xyz...and then come home, watch tv, sleep and wake up next moring and so on....paycheck at the end of the month....so SIMPLE. They dont wanna take any extra chances in life or may be dont have skills to do any business by their own. Its the same if you say Vegetarian to eat meat or vice versa , no matter how many reasons/benefits you describe.

In short what I wanna say... try to find the like minded people who really want those things, who have passion and wanna go some extra miles than 9-5 jobs. Recently I watched a video in which the guy told me how to use the FB to find the like minded people , contact them and make your network big. I can share the way if you really interested.

Yes most people like the way they are living well more or less. I see these people as a sleep like I was for many years. Or they blame circumstances like I also used to do..

"You are not responsible what happened to you, but you are responsible for what you become"

'“The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.”

I would appreciate it Abbe if you could share how you can contact likeminded people on FB. This forum is really helpful but most people do not live in my country and I would like to set up a Mastermind group in real life...

        Hi Alan,

In my country is a saying that if you stick your head above the cornfield it will be cut off. Another one is just act normal ! Translation don't stand out !

Jealousy amongs people and even friends plays a big part too. This process for me it was learning who my real friends are. It is not just my opinion or my point of view, The Netherlands is known for this. Everbody knows abouth the chop your head of saying and mentality here. Patho is from the Netherlands as well, you can see his point of view about this topic a few comments above this one !

How is that in Ireland ? I have no reference to other counties so I am interested in how people who are succesful are perceived in other countries !

He came to the conclusion that they think and do things differently than normal people, but that the super succesful do think and act the same as each other trough intuítion. I have not found another person in the world who did this, I learned a lot and would advise everyone who is interested to read the book. But start with the book The Science of Getting Rich which is only 25 pages or so and then go on to Think and Grow Rich for better understanding !

Thanks for the book Kevin ! I read the excerpt of the book (see below) and it sounds good. He talks about Leonardo Da Vinci who is someone I learned a lot from. I believe he is the second most intelligent person who ever lived with an IQ of 190. Well that is what the list said ! I am all for learning from highly intelligent and succesful people like him !

Excerpt book Mastery by Robert Greene

"Many people have an intense feeling about what they're best at. Too often, they're driven away from it by other people. The first step is to trust yourself and aim your career path at what's unique about you.

Leonardo Da Vinci didn't come into his own as an artist alone, but when he followed his childhood curiosity about everything, he became an advisor and expert in subjects from architecture to anatomy for his patrons. "

The exact sense of getting rich I guess is by adding more value to life of others (customers) than anybody else can! Basically having an abundant mindset really helps! People who pull down successful people have a lack mindset.

The Millionaire Fastlane by M.J. DeMarco blows everything else out of the water, IMHO. It will inspire the hell out of you.

And surround yourself with very successful and wealthy people. It will change your life faster than anything else you could think of. Get away from the losers in your life who aren't going anywhere. Why? Because they will infect you with their lack programming and you will have a VERY hard time breaking through to success.

And another thing, unplug your TV once and for all and stop watching movies to get away from the negativity and lack programming.

As Einstein said children are geniuses who learn how to walk , talk and invent themselves. School / education makes people stupid and has them thinking in cubibles to train them to work for a boss in you guessed it cubicles, instead of learning how to be creative and be their own boss.

Albert Einstein said: "The only thing standing in the way of my learning is my short education"

Just remember Einstein was kicked out of school because they tought he was stupid and could not learn. He was dyslected as well. He became one of the biggest minds that ever lived. The conviction that one has to have an education from a school to become succesful is totally wrong. A lot of super succesfull people were a dyslected, b quit school at early age.

I researched sucesful people for over 15 years, only if you research things you can come to conclusions not by guessing or thinking something is in a certain way, because everybody says so. Most people who say this have never been succesful in their lives and that is exactly the reason why they are not succesful! They assume things and do not research statement that everyone says are true or not. Do you jump in a lake because everyone jumps in a lake, that's the same thing !

If these books give you a headache it means you think to much in cubicles ;-) Think outside the box better yet remove the box completely !

The Science of Getting Rich and Think an Grow Rich books that go together as a man and woman were written in the early 1900's so these writers are dead. You can't make money of of books if you are dead ! All motivational courses now are derived from the books written in the 1900's.
