Is Life too short to do something you hate?

About a year ago I saw a video by Gary Vaynerchuk on Web 2.0. He made a powerful case for stopping what you do and getting off the apple cart. It made an impression on me

Be interested to hear if this works for you or other thoughts that people have?

Yes and no. In an ideal world you'll get to do everything you love and get everything you ever wanted and be eternally happy - but we know our brain and the economy doesn't work that way.

People don't really care about what you love doing

You have to consciously design your lifestyle around doing what you love and at the same time getting what you want. (and this lifestyle design thing takes SERIOUS WORK, if it's all rainbows and ponies EVERYONE WOULD DO IT)

Besides, most of life is lived when you expand your comfort zone and try ballsy new things or when you get better at some existing thing, and this continually challenges you and it's actually work not leisure. So Ironically, just "doing what you love" over and over again would lead to BOREDOM.

Instead, WORKING towards the attainment of what you never thought possible is where the fun's at

Yes, some days you'll feel like total shit and think whether you should go and have fun instead, but STICKING TO whatever you've committed to build will lead to greater rewarding emotions at the end of the day. oh the human mind...

I think a better version of the quote would be "life is too short to not work your ass off towards everything you want in life"

No ... but it's too short to keep doing what you hate with no end in sight. You do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do. If you hate what you're doing but don't have an escape planned, you need to start planning. That's where many people who are "trapped" fail, and so, they remain trapped.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Cool. It's nice to try everything you haven't tried doing in your life.

The feeling is something difficult to explain when you try doing things you haven't tried in your entire life.

To answer your question, yes. No one should do what they hate doing.

I think that's a personal choice. A lot of people are willing to do in the present what they don't especially like in order to attain something they really want at some point in the future.

I did not see that video, but I agree with the premise that people should not be doing something they hate, day in and day out. If there is a chance to try something else out, that person should.

It is not worth losing peace of mind and health to keep working at a job you hate if you have a chance to change your work. Some people never can change their job, no matter how hard they try. They may need to stay there for the money (for their families) at least for awhile.

These people can find a fun hobby to do when they are not working and try to find the good in the situation if they can, and stay hopeful that they can perhaps find something else later on.

Trying out something new - a different job every now and then (part-time) could point the way to a new job situation. OR this person could go back to school at night and train for another job he or she might like better.

    That's my two cents!

Life is way too short. Why spend it doing something you hate?

There are reasons to do something you hate, though. For me it was for the money. I spent a lot of time trying to decide whether to go back to my "old" life of doing what I love. I just couldn't justify cutting my pay in half. Instead I changed my attitude (I could do anything I hated temporarily, might as well make the best of it) committed myself to working my tail off in IM (can't take a paycut after all), and pick up a part time gig doing what I love.

I managed to get the best of both worlds. I am exhausted most of the time, though. Hopefully I can last long enough for this IM stuff to kick in.

sweet jesus. i am in the EXACT same boat. Im on a 91k salary at 25yrs old. in today's economy that is unheard of, and i don't even necessarily hate what i do. I just commute and absolutely DESPISE waking up at 5am. it should be inhumane to do so. So i'm getting started in IM. hope to build 3 or 4 solid authority sites that can make what i make now but hopefully more so i can get out of OfficeSpace life. but now im waking up at 430, getting to the gym at 5, working 7 to 3. then working on my sites from 4 to 9. rinse and repeat... fawking sucks but the thought of staying at my job for the rest of my life sucks more

Life is too short to do something that other person hate. Sometimes we do thing that we like but other person hate such as parents, friends, etc. Sometimes we were force to do thing that we hate such as studying university course that we don't want to.
