What fear of success? I call BS

When you read about procrastination and the causes, you'll inevitably read that one of the major causes is the fear of success.

This "fear of success" mantra is as annoying as the "test, test, test" mantra. Both are entirely true in the right situation, but they're also lazy answers in the wrong context.

And applying "fear of success" to entrepreneurs is DEFINITELY in the wrong context.

If we were afraid of success, we wouldn't be entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship is easy to avoid, just do what everyone else does (hint: J.O.B.).

But if you want something more... if you desire success with a passion... then the last thing you fear is success. You're obsessed over success like Gollum is obsessed over the One Ring. You'll do anything to get it, even spending your whole life chasing it.

So, then, why does someone who is obsessed with succeeding procrastinate?

Lots of reasons: Not knowing what to do next. The task doesn't suit your particular skills. You're conditioned to instant gratification. You haven't learned the importance of focus.

And a big one, you LIE to yourself.

And an even bigger one... you don't really KNOW yourself.

Once you start to look inside yourself and figure out your skills, shortcomings, habits and tendencies - you can start to beat procrastination and become the person you dream of being.

That's my take.

Cheers,
Stephen Dean

The Gollum example is a really bad one. You do realise that the pior to being Gollum he was Smeagol? It was he who discovered the ring which slowly destroyed him both mentally and physically. Obsession isn't healthly no matter what the pursuit is, I wouldn't recommend anybody to obsess over anything.

If you look up the true meaning of obsession it's quite a negative term.

Success is subjective, if you want to be successful just give yourself permission to be successful, it's much like just being happy.
