Is Mindset important in making money online?

I'm a relative newbie to WF (as far as active participation) and so far I've seen a lot of technical or how to posts and threads.

I haven't seen many threads relating to mindset or the mindset it takes to be successful online. I'm guessing there could be many reasons for that.

Could be that I've just not seen the posts...

Could one of those reasons an assumption that if your here in the WF that your mindset should be developed and ready for success?

I'm currently reading "Think and Grow Rich" along with an audio program and listening in on a daily wake up call that highlights sections of the book as we walk through the book.

Just out of curiosity is mindset important to your success and what resources would you recommend?

I don't think it is just "be positive", but we all have closed minds in our own unique ways and have to learn to open them. We've done things a certain way for many years, and have to be prepared to change, not by necessarily taking huge risks, but by changing how we approach our business.

For one, there's a mindset forum. Mindset is HUGE. Every once in a while I take 2 weeks to a month and focus SOLELY on mindset. If you know what you want to do, and why, and you get your willpower up and your self-discipline together, then with the correct direction you can do virtually anything.

I cover mindset to a "tee" in my free mentoring program. It is the number one reason most newbies don't make money and are always looking for the shiny thingy. It helps to have a focus before making business decisions - especially before spending money.

That is why my mentoring program is and will always be free.

Is mindset important? Yes, but it can be overdone if it becomes consuming or all-encompassing. At some point you have to do more than just get your mind right.

Is taking action important? Yes, but be aware that you can take lots of action and never get anywhere if that action is constantly doing the wrong things.

Is paying attention to detail important? Yes, the little things in your business that you do right will push your business into profitability and beyond.

Don't get too hung up on any one thing. If you err, do so by taking too much action and you will most likely succeed in online business.

            Good luck,

I'm afraid that you'll have to speak for yourself. I don't have a closed mind in any way that I'm aware of, but if I did I would not necessarily need to "learn to open it". If you keep your mind sufficiently open, people will throw a helluva lot of garbage into it.

As a society, over the last 50 years our efforts to stop being too closed have made us too open. Like a weeping sore that won't heal.

And let us not forget that your mind is analogous to your hand: if it cannot either open or close, it must be broken.

Having said all that, here's a piece that everyone on the thread may find valuable.

If you focus on money, it will always be scarce. Focus on helping as many
people as possible, and money will come to you naturally.

Mindset is HUGE. If you focus on LACK OF MONEY (why am I not making any, or can't buy something or don't have enough, etc), then it will be scare. Because what we focus on expands.

Mindset is important because it can negatively color every thing you do. It is an integral part of the success formula. Mindset + Skillset * Performance = Results

For me, the most important mindset is to always be curious about EVERYTHING. Find your focus and be curious about how others reached their success. Mimic their strategy but do it better. Keep innovating, let your creative juices flow, try EVERYTHING until something works better than the other strategy. Your mindset should never stagnate, always keep improving your strategy and keep on researching the latest trend. IM is always in a perpetual state of motion. Keep and eye on your competitors and always be one step ahead of them.
Failure only strengthens your knowledge and tests your ability to bounce back.. keep trying and never give up.

Yep - in a few different ways:

    1. Getting clear on what you really want
    2. Overcoming the fear/doubt that will inevitably stand in your way
    3. Finding your big WHY that drives you more than the "little voice in your head" that constantly resists change and creates fear around risk
    4. Constantly being responsible for your own motivation...each day just like physical exercise we need mental exercise toward the positive - it must be consciously done until it becomes natural

Just posted this you may be interested in too regarding making sure you have a big enough WHY behind your goals and actions - Purpose And Passion

Very powerful words, Jeff. I agree. Changing your negative psyche into SUPER OPTIMISM is a never-ending work but it becomes easy with practice.

Change is like tuning a guitar or piano; there are times when we slip back into our old self-defeating habit (we go out of tune so to speak) so we need tuning to get us back into shape.

The mind is such a POWERFUL TOOL. Learn how to use it and THE WORLD BECOMES YOUR OYSTER.

Having the right mindset is extremely important to being successful when it comes to ANYTHING in life.

Before you take action towards any goals (business or personal) you have to whole heartily believe that you will achieve success.

Without that, the motivation and dedication required to achieve it won't be there and you will grow tired of whatever it is you're working on and move on to the next project that won't work out...

Before you invest a dime, before you create a website, before you get a coach or a mentor, make sure you choose a path that you 100% believe you will be successful with... a system or niche that you will dedicate yourself 100% to until you are successful.

Of course, just having the right mindset doesn't mean you will automatically be successful.. but without it, you're not even giving yourself a chance

Making money online isn't like hitting the lottery, it doesn't just magically happen for people BUT if you believe in yourself and believe in whatever method you choose and commit yourself 100% you will certainly be giving yourself the best chance of making real money.

When I started almost 7 years ago I KNEW I would be successful and I've been making money ever since my first month online.

I created a plan outlining EXACTLY what I would do, I saw it working in mind before I even got started, I took action, and the results followed.

Good luck to you, on whatever path you choose!

I've been struggling with finding the right 'mind set' to make money on the Internet for quite a while. I have recently come to the conclusion that all I really need is to get a plan of action and get off my lazy bottom and follow the plan.

I'm in the early stages with one at the moment and feel optimistic as each stage I complete, I feel more positive about the outcome.

If at the end of it I make no money, at least I will feel pride in knowing that I can go from a to b with the right plan, which is just waiting round the corner for me to give it a try.

A certain kind of mindset is important to success in my opinion and here’s the mindset of the kind of person who will succeed:

    1. They understand going in that this is going to be a dirty, working till your fingers bleed, mind numbing experience – and they can’t wait to dive in. Pushbutton seekers always fail.

    2. They aren’t wanting the hand holding so many others whine about. They might be forced to get it from time to time, but they feel prouder when they find the answers on their own – so they’re eager and relentless in seeking out resources.

    3. They don’t give a rat’s rear if they fail here and there – because they’re failing forward – and they’re not ashamed because they know logically that everyone else failed too – even experts who claim to be perfect.

    4. They have the mindset of a perpetual student. It’s never done and over. There is no finish line. They’re always going to be learning what they don’t know. And if they excel at something? Well they’ll still keep learning so they can excel some more.

    5. They never blame others – they wonder where THEY went wrong. And then they work on finding out and fixing it.

Those are the ones who dominate in being an entrepreneur. The fighters, not the followers. The ones who aren’t intimidated by doing things different.

There are too few of them, unfortunately – and they’re blaming their failure on the “fact” (aka: falsity) that “nothing works.”

So whatever material we can find to boost this is a plus. I'm also reading think and grow rich and its an excellent book. Your mindset is very important and especially in the early stage of your IM career because you have to change the way you think in this industry

One of the biggest mindset lessons to be learned is you must look at failure as education

Winners do this but losers look at failure as being a loser and being a failure

You need to know what doesn't work in order to know what does work ;-)

  • I'm usually very skeptical about the whole "mindset" mantra, just as I'm very skeptical about books like The Alchemist or The Secret or any of those.

You see, proper mindset is obviously important for ANYTHING you do in life, but mindset alone (also known as "day-dreaming" or "wishful thinking") won't get the job done. You need to empower that mindset with brains, risk-taking and hard work. Otherwise, you can merrily day-dream till the end of time and feel all fuzzy and warm inside, but without any results to show for.

I really don't think any positive thinking advocates are suggesting that being positive in and of itself does anything. However, the positive attitude keeps the 'action' coming. People who are inspired, or at least not in a downright bad mood, are going to 'take action' a lot more than people who are depressed/sad/down.

Being positive is primarily a way to do more and accomplish more. Sitting around 'being positive' that something great's going to happen without taking action is not going to work

mindset - definition of mindset by the Free Online Dictionary ...

Dictionary, Encyclopedia and Thesaurus - The Free Dictionarymindset
      mind·set or mind-set (m nd s t ). n. 1. A fixed mental attitude or disposition that predetermines a person's responses to and interpretations of situations.

Without the proper mindset one cannot solve the problems which lead one to their own natural success! Mindset is absolutely the key to success - if only the only thing that keeps one from quitting as a response to failure.

I'm spending a lot of time working with money mindset lately and I think that obviously the answer is "yes" but I think a more interesting question is "how does mindset affect performance or the outcome?"

I think there are many "types" of mindset at work but if I could separate it into two areas I'd say there is the "am I up to the task?" mindset based in confidence and past experiences, current beliefs and social conditioning and the is the "how much money do I need, am striving for and over what period.

In other words, there's the mindset you need to get up off the couch and do something that will lead to a desired result and then you have to work out how to get there. I think many of us "want" freedom and wealth so that part of the mindset is fine and we all (to a large degree) have the confidence to do something but I think most of us can experience the most growth in having the right mindset to sit and work out how much we want, how we're going to get it and to have the mental discipline to keep our aims at the forefront of our minds.

    Great thread. Thanks.

Mindset is in my opinion the most important part of being successful; followed by just taking some darn action.

There's a 99.9999% chance that you're gonna fail and if you're mindset isn't right, you're going to feel like giving up...

You really have to have a strong mindset that constantly reminds you that giving up is not an option.

You'll hear a voice in your head that says something like "am I good enough to really do this"... You'll really contemplate giving up.

You have to be able to toss those thoughts to the side and keep going..

It's hard sometimes but totally worth it..

i suggest listening to positive audio morning noon and night. This helps a lot. I rarely listened to music. Positive audio, training and motivational speakers.

Les Brown, Tony robins and Eric Thomas are my all-time favorites.

Another thing you may run into is negative people who think anything outside of a job is a scam. I cut them lose.

if you know you're going to be successful at this, their BS input will mean less than peanuts to you...

Just make sure you write out your goals with plans of action for accomplishing them.. This helps out a lot..

    BEst wishes
