This post is inspired by an article that I found on Stumbleupon that comes from MarcandAngel.com.

The post is called - 50 Questions that Will Free Your Mind.

However, I focused in on one of the questions -

If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?

I have a newborn that is less than three weeks old, so this question hit home for me.

My initial reaction was to come up with a list of things to share.

There is so much that I can give my child and a newborn.

Then, I stopped and realized that the question asked for one big piece of advice.

Uh oh, how am I not going to mess this up. You see, if I can give him a lot of pieces of advice, the surely one ill be a good one and, as I write, I may find the best piece of advice.

Then, I realized, that hedging my bets does not work in life.

Here is my advice - Pick Your Thing and Pursue it with Vigor and Passion Like There is Nothing Else in the World. FOCUS

See a video from Tony Robbins on the Power of Focus -

The World will give you obstacles and you may even second guess yourself multiple times.

However, the power that comes from focusing on one thing and focusing on it for a long period of time will have you lead such a fulfilling life.

We know that life is short, so there is no benefit in doing something that you do not want to do.

The flip side is that life is also forgiving, especially for those who are committed.

You have time to make mistakes and readjust your life, especially if you are really in pursuit of something bigger than yourself.

If you change your mind, you will find out that you are going in circles and not getting anywhere fast.

There is something that is appealing about starting something new but that appeal is short lived and will become less and less impactful as time goes on.

Keep your eye on the long term and focus on a few things that make you happy and will allow you to say - I did that and I am very good at it.

I am specifically leaving this post vague because it does not matter what your thing is.

When you find it, you will know. However, if you are anything like me, you will second guess and second guess. That is OK.

The second-guessing is there to protect you but you know the truth, so don't listen to it.

Make it a great day.

    first, congratulations!!!!

You have posted some excellent advice. As a mother of two (now in college and beyond) I can attest to the importance of that philosophy.

All too often, we project our own fears and insecurities onto our children and squelch their great dreams by saying well-meaning things like, "You can't make a living doing that, you should do something more practical." So, parents, swallow your fears. Your fears do not belong to your children! Let them pick up their thing and fly with it, no matter how uncomfortable it makes YOU!

First of all Justin, congrats on your new born child.

The best advice you can give your child is this:

If you have a dream, do what ever it takes to make it happen. Don't you ever quit on it and don't let anyone steal it from you. You can do anything you set your mind to do.
