3 Simple Mind Shifts that Will Make Online Marketing Easier for You

I've been an 'Internet marketer' for several years now, and a warrior for about 2.5 of those years.

This forum has some great info on it, if you know how to use it right.

But I see a lot of newbies fall prey to 'shiny object syndrome,' focus all their efforts on SEO when they don't even have a decent end product, and get fairly jaded.

There's a sickness in some parts of the IM culture that has mutated Internet marketing into "make money for money's sake" - the ends justify the means.

Here's 3 simple, but super-effective 'mental shifts' that will help break you out of that destructive IM thought pattern
- and help you make more money in 2013:

1) Do something that's both useful and exciting to you

Any successful, long-lasting business is going to come from actually providing a useful tool, service, or information that helps someone.

By choosing something that excites you as well, you're more likely to have the 'staying power' needed to make it through the ups and downs.

And success isn't going to come from half-assing it, focusing only on what YOU get out of it, or doing as little work as you can. If you come into IM for those reasons, you are SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR FAILURE.

2) Stop right now and look at how you're using Internet marketing

I know for plenty of people, the reason they started working online was 'for the freedom and financial gains.' That's okay as a secondary goal - but your primary goal needs to be 'because there's something beneficial to others that you enjoy doing'.

Real Internet marketing is not about making a quick buck. It's another way to reach potential customers. So I'll say it again, don't make 'making money' your priority.

Even if your cash flow is low, don't build your long-term business goals around just 'making money.' Do what you need to do right now to make money to pay your bills, but build up your long-term business goals around the principle of helping others in a way that's exciting and profitable for you

Now, I'm not saying you should just 'do what you love' and expect everything to fall into place. But for just about every passion that exists out there, there's a way to successfully monetize it - and have fun doing it.

3) Stop building your business core around impermanent things (SEO and such)

I cringe when I see people asking 'how to find good niches with X tool." Your business building decisions should NOT hinge on SEO or other metrics alone.

They can be a factor in your traffic strategies, but to make things like SEO or Keywords the basic method for choosing your niche is insanity.

It's a good idea to look at what the market wants, but don't just throw yourself into a market that you couldn't give a rat's behind about.

Why so many people suffer from 'shiny object syndrome'

By entering a 'niche' thinking you can just brace through it till you 'make it,' you're setting yourself up to burn and crash.

Instead of being enthusiastic about what you're doing, your entire business and marketing journey is then turned into pain. Instead of enjoying, growing relishing the process, everything becomes an escape.

And eventually, when your latest effort becomes too hard without enough payoff, you bail and hop to something new, hoping "THIS will be the thing that finally makes millions for me!"

Later you lament "Why can't I make any money...?" with your trail of half finished projects sitting behind you.

Do yourself a favor and take this advice to heart

Yes, you can make it online - I promise you will get there. But you need to enjoy the journey. Choose something that interests you, do some research, make a plan and implement it without giving up.

But above all, enjoy what you're doing NOW. Or there will be nothing that will make you truly happy.

There are literally millions of people out there who NEED YOUR HELP and they want to give you money! You don't have to cheat, trick, spam, or sell your soul to make a happy living.

Now go on and do it!

    Good stuff man!

Great advice on here and I think a lot of beginners don't really put much importance on the science of taking action, and really that's what it all comes down to.

If you just learn all the time you aren't going to get anywhere, you have to implement!

I always tailor my products so that my customers have the best possible chance of taking action because if they're just looking for an adrenaline rush they will go broke in no time..

Don't let products collect digital dust on your desktop!

    Take Massive Action!

      Thank you Dan

Yep - there's endless excuses on why they don't take action, but it usually boils down to one thing: Fear.

Fear of failure, fear of wasting time, fear of looking silly...

The fact is, if you do business, you're GOING to hit rough spots - but that's part of the fun n' learning!

You're living it! And I'll bet your customers love your products as well since it helps them with their goals.

      Keep flying strong.

    Great info!

One misconception that most new people think is that "It is easy to make money online"
Of course the experts say it is easy because they have years of experience doing it. Yeah, It is easy for the experts and they make it sounds too easy for newbies. Here's what they told me when I first started:

    Step 1. Do this
    Step 2. Do this
    Step 3. Make Money

The way they interpret is like even a 12-year-old boy can succeed online. And when they try to do it, it is not going as they plan and they'll start blaming the experts and give up.

You need to put yourself in a mindset that making money is NOT easy

The most important thing is they need to look at it as a serious business, not as a part-time fun thing to do. Of course, doing something that you enjoy and brings benefits to other is an EXTRA bonus to guarantee your success. If you're doing something you enjoy, you have the power to persevere.

    Enjoy
    Lee

I agree with this. Many people give up when they feel that IM is not easy as they thought.

That's what hit me most since that was most sold to people during the boom period of 2007 - 2010 (dunno if it's still going on :confused. Marketing products with pre-made review pages that new "marketing newbies" would buy that were bent on nothing more than getting other people who had no idea what they were doing to buy that very same product. It was a horrible cycle.

The spirit and beauty of the system should arise when you genuinely feel like you are helping people with the pride of knowing what you're handing over to them is quality. This is big picture (what am i really doing) versus small picture (how do i achieve that - then getting lost in the details).

      Absolutely

Essentially, what you're describing is MLM style IM marketing - not so fantastic.

What a lot of people don't realize is they don't have to sell to the IM community - IM is about selling, well anything on the internet.

Totally agree.. As I believe, passion is everything! You can get something BIG without passion on it.
