I hope this topic isn't old hat, as I'm new to the site, but I'm always interested in hearing what inspired a person to start doing what they're doing, especially if they are successful at it.

What, or who, was your inspiration, the person or thing that made you decide to start the business (or businesses) you're currently devoting your time to?

Did you meet a person you admired? Did life keep bringing you across a particular consumer need and you decided to find a way to fill that niche? Did you already have a dream going online, and then look for ways to make it more profitable? Or is it simply that you were looking to make more money, and used that as your entry, deciding on the way to achieve that later?

I look forward to hearing your answers. I find that when I can read about how others are inspired, it inspires me to keep going, even if the road ahead seems like a long one.

Thanks!
#inspiration

I learned about how Jay Abraham and Gary Halbert were paid very well for creating unusual, innovative ways to help other businesses succeed. And I realized, that's something I'd like to learn how to do when I grow up.

Thanks, Allen. I'll look up the men you mention, as I confess I'm not familiar with them.

I'd love to hear what others have to say, but maybe this topic has already been done to death. <smiles>

Also, try asking the same question in the WF's "Mind warriors" section. It doesn't zoom by as fast, and there are more people in that section who like to discuss mindset & inspiration rather than just the tip of the day.

You asked a great question and I'd love to see what some other people have to say on this topic.

    Regards,
    Allen

I've always been self-employed to some extent, pretty much my entire life. I got the inspiration to figure out a way to work smarter and not harder shortly after my little boy was born. It may sound corny, but I had to figure out a way that I could be around him as much as possible and still provide for my family.

Hey Mark we have something in common!

We also just had a son and my Roofing company has been dead for the last few months. This break has given me lots of time to focus on my IM business and work on leaving roofing behind.

Getting out of construction is very motivating!

I personally did not have any one person I admired or that inspired me. For me it was a point where I had finally had it, a point where I was SO sick and tired of working for some one else. So tired of working when some one else told me, paid me what they wanted and barely getting by in life. Just finally got to that point where I WAS going to do something about it.

I saw others making money online. My wife was not crazy about the idea, told her I was going to do it and that was that, and I did. Course it was not easy or simple, it was a lot of hard work and many hours behind the computer. Guess it was the fact that I hated working for some one else so much, that fueled me on.

    Just my experience

I am jotting all of you down on my own list of "inspirations"! Thank you, I'm so glad I asked the question!

Steve: "the inner desire of a human being who wants to be something more" ... I love that! I have the (not always good as I can get tied up in it) habit of journal writing every morning, and I may put that at the top of tomorrow's page for my thought of the day.

Mark and Tyson: I think seeing your children as inspiration is marvelous, and very inspiring for me. My own are grown now, but I still think that everything I do is for them in some way.

Allen: Thank you, I'll check out the Mind Warriors forum, too!

I basically reached a point where I felt I was a slave to the corporation I worked for.

They had so much control over me and gradually the horrible realization dawned on me that all the overtime (some of it unpaid!) I done to not let the 'team' down, the going above and beyond the call of duty ensuring the team delivered and the intrusive telephone calls from my boss whilst I was relaxing at home did not make me more highly thought of. In fact in all honesty I was probably taken for granted - like many, many other people who will read or contribute to this very thread.

My inspiration to keep going in IM is quite simply I never ever want to feel enslaved by a job again. The only criminals that accept going back to prison are the criminals institutionalized by the prison system. I am not a criminal but my point is luckily I never became institutionalized by the corporations I worked for. Steve's words in an earlier post about "the inner desire of a human being who wants to be something more" is more succinct than my waffle and it's the one thing we all have in common.

In the back of my mind I knew there was another way to make money. Thank goodness I took action. Luckily I enjoy and thrive on the creativity and the freedom that comes with IM. I could write a whole heap more on this subject as I feel particularly strongly about it but I'll call it a day now.

Garry, please, ramble as much as you want, your words are very encouraging. Thank you!

It sounds like a lot of people made the move to IM after feeling that their "nine-to-fives" were just not getting them what they most needed out of life.

Me, I've worked from home for a long time, and have tried to start a number of little, what I call, "side businesses", but though they would bring in milk money, they never really took off.

I'm learning that focus and determination probably had a lot to do with that.

It's funny, but I think my own inspiration (which I'm just starting to do something with now) came from seeing The Secret. The whole Law of Attraction idea is something that has appealed to millions, but I think I started looking at it from a slightly different angle. The people who were successful through the Law of Attraction, to the point that they were teaching it to others, not only "drew good" toward them ... they actually did something with that good once they grasped on to it. They acted on it with focus and determination.
