Looking for some good suggestions. Recently I've been going hardcore on epic music mixes like this one - .

Be interested to hear what other people are using though :p

Some slow rock music keeps me into mood for work. Not so loud and not so mellow get's me some sort of energy that flows in my nerves and that keeps me going.

Heavy metal, rock, blues and jazz, and maybe emotional osts lol. But then I'll get too addicted to the music to concentrate on my work... So silence is the most productive music for me.

I don't usually have any music getting me inspired to do a lot of work online. I plan my action on a daily basis but I do like to listen to some music when I am online. I like Beyonce, Britney spears, Carrie underwood.

Music gets me in the mood to listen to more music. If it's good music - I can't help but listen.
If it's bad - why bother?

To work - I need silence. lol

Classical music in the morning until about 12 PM and then smooth jazz until evening. My daughter who is a junior in college, has also taken up the smooth jazz thing for studying.

I only get into music when I start to lose focus. When I get into serious thinking mode, I prefer silent.

Dubstep but I don't normally listen to it unless I am grinding online. I like to get all jacked up on coffee, fire up my hookah, and put my headphones on and listen to loud dubstep. It sets the pace for working for me. If I notice I am falling into rabbit holes I will turn everything off until I get back on track.

It really helps me focus if I'm listening to chillstep...
      Here's an example:

Not all chillstep videos do for focus...just a few I have found do for me.

I don't have an office in my house so I work in my living room and there are many things that can disturb you.So music helps me focus and forget about everything around me.I don't even hear the phone ringing!

I go hardcore with my music when I workout, but when I'm working I try to listen to motivational things that gets my juices and ideas flowing. Currently I'm listening to the 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People. Next up is something I need for business and personal life which is called The Power Of Now.

Music doesn't motivate my work, probably because my work is too cerebral. However it definitely motivates my running or house cleaning. Just about any type makes me move faster and be happier about both tasks ;-)

Music that I love listening to. That would be KISS, Def Leppard, maybe some Poison or Ratt. I love the older groups that is for sure. I prefer the upbeat songs but will also listen to stuff such as Lilly Allen. Anything that makes me feel good and gets me moving is good for me.

While I am working, I find I work best in silence, however, I like to listen to Rascal Flatts or some classic rock before I get started. It helps to get me motivated.

Classical, Neo-Classical and other sorts of music that have touch of Virtuoso in them. Somehow, I feel smarter and also productive listening to these kinds of music.

  • I listen to different styles of music for different stages in the creation project.

    1. Brainstorming - psychedelic rock, art music
    2. Planning - no music
    3. Implementation - upbeat electronic

    Depends what I'm working on.

If I'm doing a writing marathon I need simple nature sounds (rain, birds, beach, etc.) and maybe a single piano. I started doing this when working on websites, it really helped me during crazy long web design sessions.

If I'm about to work on my more motivational marathon I like upbeat rock music. One of my current favorites is The Ataris' version of The Boys Of Summer or Volbeat's version of Sad Man's Tongue. But only before writing. While actually writing I just have the old school typing sounds that my Focuswriter software generates. The sound eventually hypnotizes me and it keeps up the rhythm for writing. The rhythm, for me, is very important.

I love music and I believe that it is another form of energy so, if you are sick, depressed, in need of motivation, try listening to the sound tracks from movies, classical, jazz, blues, most of the older earlier musics are better for you than the newer stuff so go backwards and you will be ok.

Whenever I am working and I need to have focus on it, I never listen to music. Usually I get distracted by the music and I end up singing along to the song. I always want a silent environment whenever I am working. I don't know if this depends on the person, maybe some relaxing instrumental music can help you focus.
