What Can You Do in 1.5 Hours?

The 1.5 Hour Solution

You have awesome dreams, right? So... how come you haven't achieved them yet?

This can seem like a harsh question but why shouldn't you ask it of yourself? What are your excuses?

The truth is, we are all given exactly the same amount of time as the world's great achievers - so let look at the following breakdown to see just how these people manage to do what the rest of us grumble that we don't have time for...

The day is made up of 24 hours, no matter who you are 24
Ideally, you sleep for eight hours (adjust accordingly) - 8 = 16
You work for 8 hours; time is dwindling fast, isn't it? - 8 = 8
"Life stuff": commuting, cooking/meals, household chores, auto care, pet
care, shopping, cleaning, personal care, exercise, relaxation and
quality time spent with friends and family - 6 = 2

Okay. That leaves you a grand total of two hours every workday to get something amazing done. This doesn't take into account weekends!

Now, what do most people do in their free time? Watch TV. In fact, the average American throws away, for ever, 4 hours of every day in a zombie-like state watching reality TV while life passes them by. Hmmm... that means they're hacking away at the essential "life stuff" and their dreams! How lame! Again - that can sound harsh, but only if you are among those who choose to spend their time this way and then complain you don't have time for anything. If you use your time wisely, you know this is true.

Okay. We're down to 2 hours of 'free' time, Monday through Friday.

If you are not efficient and organized, you spend a portion of those precious two hours getting ready to do the life stuff.

So how do you take control of those 2 hours?

PRIORITY #1 is to make yourself a daily "hit list" of MUST-DO things and figure out an organizational system in your home and workplace that makes everything you need easily accessible. Don't waste time searching for the vacuum cleaner bags or peoples' contact information. You don't have that much time left for your dreams! Become more efficient at the life stuff and you might actually end up with even more free time!

Priority #2 is to STOP DOING and start being. Yes. STOP rushing around like a preschooler on a sugar buzz! Take 15-30 minutes of those precious 2 hours and meditate. Just sit and do absolutely nothing. Why? Because during meditation you can:
  • visualize the ideal situation
  • use your imagination to create solutions
  • master your mind
  • relax (so you don't run yourself ragged)
  • reprogram your self-limiting beliefs
  • de-stress

Okay. So by taking 30 minutes every day to meditate, you are left with 1.5 hours of time to create something awesome... AND you've done a lot of very important self-work during meditation. Cool, right?

That still leaves you with 1.5 hours every (week)day to achieve anything you desire.

So to get rid of those pesky excuses that keep you from being your best and achieving every dream you have, take the 1.5 Hour Solution Challenge:

1. Make a plan. Identify what you need to do and have in order to achieve your dream.
2. Break down the plan into short action blocks of no more than one hour.
3. Do one of these 'blocks' every day. That's 5 hours PER WEEK spent on your great dreams.
4. That leaves you with a half an hour every day. During this half hour, don't work on your dreams. Work on yourself. Read; learn; exercise more; meditate more; journal; daydream, play, do what makes you happy, and nurture your relationships.

If you do this every weekday for a month, you will have spent thirty hours every month creating awesomeness. Add some time on the weekends, and you are an unstoppable, goal-driven master creator!

I raised 2 kids and still managed to work on my dreams. If there's a will (and a plan) there's a way! Best wishes to all dreamers! ~ Jarmila

1.5 hours is ideal to do exercise and stay healthy, so I'm gonna spend it in doing some run or jog. Health is Wealth.

Totally! I've already included exercise in the "life stuff" portion (I'm a competitive athlete so I exercise 1 to 5 hours almost every day). This is an EXTRA 1.5 hrs on top of that to work on your dreams :-)

    Great thread Jarmila.

I am a beginner in online business and I want to gain more knowledge in making money online. I think I'll spent my 1.5 hours for self improvement and for my business massive action plan (MAP).

It's true, there are so many things that we can do in a day. Unfortunately, many of us waste a lot of time. I'm guilty of that too. Lots of times I spend hours online doing nothing productive at all. I'm slowly trying to take away that bad habit.

And to answer your question: In 1.5 hours, I could learn more about IM. I really want to know more about this field.

Thank you, Jarmila! I sometimes don't allow the time I spend in meditation to do what it's meant to accomplish. I am learning to be patient and still. When I am, I find how much easier it is afterward to get the things done that are the most important tasks which will ultimately lead to my accomplishing the goals I have set for myself that I know lead to success.

    Nice post.

To put it into perspective 1 hour / day adds up to nine 40-hour weeks over the course of a year. (I know you're going to check this in your calculator, but it's true. : )

You can accomplish a lot with that 1 hour of work.

Yes this is a great idea. I have more time than that on some days, as I work 4 ten hour days. So on 4 of these days I do not have the 2 hours but then I have one day just for computer time when the rest of the family is not home. So this allows me to get some good work in and get stuff accomplished which I really do like.

Super great post! We are easily distracted with tv and video games, suspending us from hitting our goals and dreams faster!
The feeling of achievement is indescribable though, and once we focus in on what we want, anything is achievable. (even if it's a level on a video game..haha) What a cool feeling to know that it only takes 1.5 hours a day everyday to start. Meditation is key!!!! Plan and action! When we create money making habits, we create more money! Life is extaordinary! Be blessed!

Jarmila, that's some awesome piece of advise you got there!

I usually spend my 1.5 hours extra time working some more.

No biggie, I enjoy what I do and I am living my dream. I might reduce this sometime in the future, doing clever things. And I am definitely going to remember your tips here.

Not everybody. I don't watch 6 hours of TV a month unless it's football season.

You can write one reasonably decent post for a blog. Perhaps wholly original content, perhaps a commentary on some news, perhaps a review, perhaps some curation.

Do that every day for a year and you have a 365 page website. If you commit one day to a first draft, another day to a second draft, and a third day for styling, SEO and some social commentating, then you have given yourself a chance for an outstanding 120 page website with hundreds of links sprawled all over relevant spots across the web.

A little really can go a long way if you have patience!
