Do You Know How to Pray?

Jesus taught, "Ye must always pray unto the Father in my name" (3 Nephi 18:19)

Prayer is one of the greatest blessings we have while we are here on earth. Through prayer we can communicate with our Heavenly Father and seek His guidance daily.

Prayer is sincere, heartfelt talk with our Heavenly Father. Prayer has been an important part of the gospel from the beginning of the world. An angel of the Lord commanded Adam and Eve to repent and call upon God in the name of the Son.This commandment has never been taken away. Prayer will help you draw closer to God. All of our thoughts, words, and actions are influenced by our prayers.

How should you pray?

No matter where we are, whether we stand or kneel, whether we pray vocally or silently, whether we pray privately or in behalf of a group, we should always pray in faith, "with a sincere heart, with real intent"(Moroni 10:4).

As you pray to your Heavenly Father, tell him what you really feel in your heart, confide in Him, ask Him for forgiveness, plead with Him, Thank Him, express your love for Him. We should not repeat meaningless words and phrases. We should always ask that His will be done, remembering that what we desire may not be best for us(3 Nephi 18:20). At the end of our prayer, close in the name of Jesus Christ.

    Hey,

Thank you very much for this thread. You don't know how much this post means to me. Sometimes, in the chaos brought on by our daily lives, we keep forgetting to just take a little bit of time to thank Him for everything that He has done for us. I always pray for strength and patience. It's so great to be reminded of the blessing of life that He has given to us.

    Again, my heartfelt thanks.

Although you towing the line with forum rules I like the gist of what you wrote. Jack Lalanne used to say he expressed his gratitude all day without thinking about it. He just did it...it was a lifestyle to him. His was more gratitude by action tho. As he used to say, " I usually hit the gym around five or six in the morning. To leave a hot bed, leave a hot woman, go into a cold gym takes a lot of discipline,"

That was one of his ways of being thankful. RIP "Jumping Jack Lalanne"

      Hi Theory,

I appreciate your thoughts. Jack Lalanne was right. Gratitude without action, is like a glass half-full. You could say the same for our prayers. I believe if you want blessings from God, you must meet him halfway by taking action. Good point.

Great thread. I think that many think to pray they need to be in a church, down on their knees. This is not the case. You can pray anywhere at anytime and you will always be listened to. IT is a great way to clear your mind and your heart and make you feel really good.

@Will- Opening your heart is key, however, not everyone can do so with ease. I remember thinking that in order for God to hear me, I had to be formal about my prayers. People talk about praying, but many make it more complicated than it has to be. Thanks for your thoughts.

@Heart-So true! Great point. Nothing can separate you from the personal relationship you have with God. You don't need a church, pastor, or group of people.

@Techbul- Indeed. Intentions are everything. My prayers weren't answered until I started praying sincerely for what I needed. Last month, God sent me many messages and signs. His answers were not what I expected, as he answered about three of my needs at once. I was scrambling to address them all. Be aware, when God does answers you he doesn't make it rain...he makes it pour! -Peace.

      Hi Frank!

Agreed. I'd be lost without him too. My personal belief is that God knew us before we were born. Our Heavenly Father wants us to become more like him. We shouted for joy when we heard his plan(Job 38:7).

      - Have a wonderful day
