Hello all,

I have been attempting to do internet marketing for quite sometime now. I have succeeded and also failed. Partially because I can't seem to FOCUS. The internet has got to be the most distracting invention known to man. Just as soon as I got something figured out, my brain jumps to another topic and finds something even more interesting to work on with a high income potential. Right now, I have about 5 projects that are just left sitting around. My web designers are waiting for me to give them more information and yet, here I am with more new ideas and starting up new projects meanwhile I still have a pile of unfinished work.

Thankfully, all these projects are not that costly. i was able to hire a designer from India to do these jobs for couple hundred dollars, but all in all, after all said and done, I am spending way more money than I should be because I can't seem to find that focus.

I find that music really helps my mind to relax so that I am not so agitated and frustrated, but I still feel that music is also a distraction to me. Silence only makes it worse because it makes me realize how much work I have to do and yet I am not doing anything. I just beat myself down from time to time and I feel less and less enthusiastic about accomplishing anything, which is very frustrating to say the least.

I don't know if its a hormonal thing... mood disorder or I just have a bad case of ADHD....

Does any of you ever feel this way? And how do you ground yourself so that your mind is not skipping from one topic to the next?

I am a lifelong sufferer of ADHD, though I was only diagnosed at age 43.

When I got the diagnosis, it was such a big relief I actually broke out laughing. Finally, a logical explanation of why my brain takes me on all of these adventures simultaneously!

I have to say, I have developed some cool ADHD party tricks. Without consciously trying, I know where everybody is at any given time in my house, and my house is 3000+ square feet over two levels. I know this because my brain tracks it when they move around, but doesn't bother to make me aware of it unless I actually need to retrieve that fact for some reason. I am also good at knowing where my wife left her purse, where the kids misplaced their tablets, and where the car keys are.

The downside is that if I am trying to actually pay attention to something, I need the environment to be completely distraction-free, or I am easily derailed.

As for business, I have to admit I go running after great ideas far too frequently. However, I got lucky. A gigantic business failure several years back forced me to focus on getting back on my feet, and that resulted in building one business that really, really works. Because of that business, I now have the freedom to chase these other butterflies when I want to, but I never take my eye too far off the main business.

I have a file of great business ideas that I have been building (i.e. "starting") but have not made much progress on. They are great ideas that await my attention for the day I can return to them with more inspiration.

I have two businesses that I run right now, and a third I am in the process of launching. You would think that would be enough. But the other day when I took my daughter to Chuck E Cheese's for the afternoon, I spent several hours outlining another idea on my laptop that had just hit me over the head, and I wanted to document as much as I could before I lost it. I even registered the perfect domain. Honestly, I have no idea why nobody thought of it before, but it is a BIG idea and I know it will make a killing as soon as I can clone myself to have the time to bring it to life.

I have no advice for you my brother in ADHD. Chase those butterflies. But at some point you have to find the best one and grab it.

    Hey friend,

I also have ADHD, though some have it worse, (I do not require medication), I agree the internet and therefore the vary nature of everything we do, is the most distracting work environment possible. I've sought out some really great coaching mentors and I realize now I must just focus on one thing/system/task/job/goal/new product (whatever) at a time.

I do this by writing down everything, I get it all out on paper, I pick the most important thing that I am going to work on until it is done, I do not allow myself to be distracted by doing anything else during this time, if it's an hour or two a day during certain time periods, whatever, I do this by making a to do list, then I make it again in order of priorities, then I pick just 1-3 priorities for that day and week.

It all comes down to planning and time management. Know what to do then just do it. Take action, stop reading, thinking at some point.

do you really care about the high income potential.. or are you just more into getting something started and going and making some money ..

maybe you are better off getting it set up structured and making money.. then finding others to sell it to or who will run it and grow it is the progress becomes to slow to fire your endorphins ..

might not be the most profitable for you ..but if you have fun getting things up and running but not so much fun running them ..after that..

    something to think about

I have had ADHD since I was a little kid (maybe not the adult part? lol).

It's hard for me to focus, but at the same time it's helped me expand my expertise into all types of different niches and markets.

Here's a video response to your question I just record.

ADHD isn't a terrible thing. You just need to set your mind to something for a short period of time and dedicate that time to get something done, even 5 minutes can get you really far if you use the time wisely.

I also have ADHD and it caused me a lot of heartache before I was diagnosed. I use lists like Justin. I give myself breaks.
I also try to focus on everything that I have managed to accomplish rather than give myself a hard time about things that I didn't finish.
This helps me to stay upbeat and hopeful.
My ADHD is part of the reason that I have decided to go freelance and do IM because I have a crazy way of working and I don't fit in well in an office environment.
Working independently helps me to be more productive because I can make allowances for myself that I wouldn't get in a traditional job.

I personally know of four people who have ADHD, and at least three of them are GREAT successes in their respective careers. One of them is the great online marketer Tellman Knudson. The other is my ex-girlfriend's sister.

The third, of course, is yours truly
