What Is Your Morning Routine?

Everyone has a morning ritual.

To some, it may be:

7:00 am - Smash the snooze button until your fingers bleed.

8:30 am - Dash to the bathroom to bandage your wounded hand (after tripping over the cat of course).

8:45 am - Throw on some clothes (Matching socks? Aint' nobody got time for that).

8:50 am - Have a pop-tart and down some boiling hot coffee
(Got to make sure to zap those tastebuds so you can't taste the stressful day that lies ahead).

I am a college student and this is pretty much how I used to start every day.

Sure, this type of ritual gets the adrenaline flowing, but it also gets the stress and cortisol coursing through your veins.

You might be able to wake up 10 minutes before film class and successfully make it to class in time to finish watching Westside Story.

But in reality, you will probably fall asleep on your desk as the 34g of sugar from your poptarts starts to wear off, leaving you a drooling, tired, mess.

Waking up with a stressful ritual like this one, does not set your day up for winning (And your cat, Snowball, would appreciate it if you would be more alert in the morning).

After coming to the realization that I sucked at mornings and that the most successful people on this planet wake up before the sun rises, I came across Stefan Pylarinos' fantastic video where he shows you...

The Benefits Of Having A Morning Ritual and How To Set Up Your Day To Become Unstoppable.

After watching the video, I put together a NEW & IMPROVED Morning Ritual for myself.

5:00 am (Yes, 5 am!) - Wake up to alarm positioned strategically at the foot of the bed (no more bloody hands), SMILE, stretch.

5:05 am - Drink some Dihydrogen Monoxide aka Water.

5:10 am - (Don't laugh) YOGA (My roommates think I am ridiculous for watching yoga videos on YouTube and clumsily trying to follow along at 5 in the morning, but stretching your whole body feels AWESOME - very relaxing too).

5:30 am - Start up a music playlist or a motivational video to get FIRED UP!!

Do a quick circuit to get my blood flowing and to sweat out some toxins.
(Usually consists of 20 pushups, 20 situps, 20 jumping jacks, 20 squats - I do this 3 times in a row with short rests)

5:45 am
- Jump in a cold pool and swim some laps or take a cold shower (This will make you FEEL ALIVE and if you do this, you will NEVER NEED COFFEE AGAIN!)

6:00 am - Dry off, get dressed, and MEDITATE (Not so great at it, but getting better. It's interesting when you notice how many tangents your mind goes on)

6:10 am - Protein shake/superfood smoothie (Milk/water, whey protein, frozen berries, yogurt, fresh greens, coconut oil, etc..)

6:20 am - Incantations (What do you want to become?) Scream it from the rooftops! Wake those neighbors up!

Empowering Questions (What are you happy about? What are you grateful for?)

Driving Force/Ultimate Purpose (What is the purpose of YOUR life?)

Journal about all of these things.

6:40 am - Learn. Read a book, watch a video, listen to an audio. Fill your mind with positivity. Don't watch the news.

6:50 am - Plan Your Day. Write a list in your journal of everything you want to get done that day. Number them in order of importance. Start crackin'

7:00 am - Workout. If you workout first thing in the morning, you will have sustained energy throughout the day and you will be able to cross it off your list and GET IT DONE!

So there it is!

I have noticed that every time I complete this ritual, I have so much more energy and a strong sense of well-being throughout the day.

I feel more alive and awake after doing this than if I were to sleep an extra 2 hours or drink a Starbuck's grande coffee in a venti cup with 2 pumps hazelnut, 2 pumps vanilla, 2 pumps caramel, 2 equals and 4 sweet and lows filled to the top with cream, with extra cream on the side, double cupped with no sleeve, a stir stick, and stopper put in the top!

So now I want to know...

What Is Your Morning Ritual?

What gets you FIRED UP in the morning?

Here are 2 motivational videos I've found myself watching a couple times a week, especially in the morning when I need that extra JOLT!

I've had sleeping problems ever since watching this one.

    Here's another good one.

I usually wake up at 8.00 am, have breakfast, drink mate (herbal beverage that keeps me awake, typical Uruguayan drink) Look at my vision board, do some meditation and work hard. It always works !

Breakfast and orange juice while catching up with the news/online updates for an hour. Stretch out any body kinks/aches on a chinning bar for a minute or two. Shower. Two cups of coffee sitting outside. Then I start work.

Even when I worked a 9-5 job I found I didn't hit my stride until 11am, so I'm happiest when taking my time with those first 2-3 hours of the day to properly set up the rest of it.

I'm the same way, I need those couple hours in the morning just for myself. When I am rushed right out of bed, the rest of my day seems much more stressful. I try to get my work done before 11 am but it doesn't always happen

Thanks for sharing your morning ritual.

      Mine is pretty simple:

Wake up, turn on the TV, drink 2 glasses of water with lemon, eat an apple, do some stretches, have a sip of coffee, turn on my computer, blast on some REALLY loud awesome music.. then do work. I always have snacks (dried fruit, veggies, tea) to keep my mental energy going throughout the day.

Cool! I wish I had a lake nearby to walk to. If it's boring I suggest you switch it up a bit, maybe incorporate something new into your routine. Just my 2 cents

Nice schedule. For me, the single most important thing in the morning has to be positive affirmations and empowering meditation. Because the mindset to me is so important. Not saying the others are less important that's just the top of my list. In fact, most often it's the very first thing I do, even before setting my two feet on the floor. I just lay there until I get my mindset positive and feeling great!

I completely agree. If you put a smile on your face right when you wake up and not be all depressed because it's another monday, you will feel a BIG change. Appreciate each and every day you wake up and breathe air into your lungs.

I love the post and it's a great way to stay productive. My morning routine is very similar to yours (minus the cold swim!). I challenge you to not stop there. What about a wind down schedule to make sure you have a good night's rest and make sure you can make that 5:00 am wake up and keep this routine going.

      Definitely!

Stefan actually just came out with a video about his evening ritual. It's something I really need to work on because sometime I find myself working late into the night and then it's very hard to wake up in the morning.

I think I'll go make a post about it

I'm an early bird so I get up about 4:30, drink hot water with lemon, get to work for about 2 hours (mind is incredibly clear at this time of day, without food!); feed my pets; have breakfast; meditate for an hour. By then it's 7 AM and I'm halfway through my work day! Woohoo!

Well, we often work or watch tv episdoes till 11pm but the kids get up at 7, so I try to crawl out of bed by 7. Stick a load of washing on, feed the kids, have a coffee. Our staff arrive (home office) at 830am so we need to be dressed by then at least lol!

Nice share guys, this really helps. It is advantageous always to be up as early as possible, the early birds catches the most delicious worms. I wake up 4am, and start working by around 5am.

I have resorted back to getting up early and give thanks to everything while getting ready for the day. I try to visualise on an empty stomach as it creates more focus. I used to do 30 min meditation, but I find that if i just visualise enough its as effective.

Dayumn! Ever since I moved into a Independent care home with breakfast, lunch and dinners included at set times, I found that being up before the sun rose was a great thing, actually. Found that I could do more even before breakfast.

I thought that I could not possibly wake up before the sun rose. NOT TRUE! Found myself more productive. Have part of a get your ex ebook wrote of this morning only. Geez.

I try to aim to be in bed by 10 but it usually takes me a few hours to fall asleep if I just sat around all day. I believe in order to have a great morning routine, working out is necessary to release some of the energy so you can fall asleep faster.

I am also curious as to how and when you guys fall asleep or how you wind down for the day.

I usually wake up everyday around 5:00 a.m. and make coffee and take the 30 second commute to work. I check email and then look at my daily to do list and get started. If it is blank I put something on it and go to work. I just try and accomplish at least one meaningful thing in my business everyday.

I wake up between 6:45 and 6:50am. I then drink a glass of lemon in hot water (it is supposed to decrease stress during the day). I then have a wash and then have breakfast. I finally get dressed and get bags ready before leaving between 7:45 and 8am for school.

I used to wake up at 3:30 AM some years back when i had a day job. (needed some quit time to work on IM)

But now i focus 100% on IM and can wake up really when i want. It's usually around 8:00 AM.

Got a routine though. Work for 60 minutes straight.. Take a 10 minutes break and repeat for 4 rounds. Then i'm mostly done for the day

    Cheers,

    My days pretty much consist of this;

12pm - wake up, have something to eat.
1pm - sit on laptop and get on with work, have various breaks throughout the day to eat and muck about online doing other stuff. Also take an hour out to do weights.
12am - watch any good documentaries or movies I've missed or want to see.
    6am - go to sleep.
