If you haven't already make sure to read the 4 Hour work week by Tim Ferriss. He has very good concepts that can be used in real time. The idea is do develop that perfect balance and really focus on the areas in priority.

My family is definitely an inspiration and my love for my work. However, there are times that it's really hard to get up and start working. What I do is remind myself that if I don't get things done now, I'll have more workloads for tomorrow which is more tiring and time-consuming.

For me to stay motivated on my work, I choose the work where i am happy with, the key is you love what you are working and what you are doing.

I've just started meditating as well and that really helps you appreciate what is important and what you should devote your time to and removes all the bull shit.

I stay motivated by repetitively visualizing and imagining some of the potential fruits of having massive success.

I think there should be a bit more to the question when asking me:

"How do you stay motivated when you don't see any results?"

I find it extremely difficult but when I think of quitting, I know that if I actually do quit, it is then that I have failed.

If I stop working, I become useless and because of that, my family will also have to suffer. It will also take away the other things I enjoy and no more vacations. I don't want that and I'd happily work harder to keep these things.

I start the day by reading a bit of a motivational book or watch a video! That will help me to set up my mind for the rest of day! Then there's also the hunger, how hungry you are and how bad you want it, that motivates also...

Lighten up and have some fun. You can find the humor in almost any topic. Look for different angles you could write from. Feel free to think outside the box. It's interesting how lifestyle blogs talk about "doing your own thing" and "writing epic content" when they're clearly doing what other lifestyle bloggers have told them to do(like sheep). It's boring and repetitive. Be free to explore your voice as a writer. Stop placing labels on yourself. Open your mind to new and exciting ways of thinking. Staying motivated for me means doing something edgy and radical. Just make sure you continue to provide value to products or services. Your vivacious personality alone won't sell. It will simply make things less monotonous.

I stay motivated by working in the niches I enjoy and really care about.

I have struggled with many ways of working to accomplish what I need to do to make a good living. What I have discovered is that if you give in and do work you hate to do, you're in trouble right off.

So a first priority is to move towards jobs and tasks you feel passionate about and love doing. This engages the enormous emotional base within you that has the energy to move mountains. . . . Wishing you well in this!

Goals with deadlines. Apart from that people (family etc)

The law of nature is to stay cheerful in every aspects of life even in rough patches, observe Animals,Trees, ocean, environment, rain etc., I practice to be with nature in every phase of my life and surprisingly I am always motivated towards the living a life at it best.

My mindset now is grind or die!

1. I stay motivated when I see myself being efficient in what I do.
2. I stay motivated when I check and see my goals and take action towards it.
3. I stay motivated by one purpose... and that is excellence in everything I do.

I go to the mirror and ask myself how bad do u want it? Then I get fired up and say I WANT IT! I also think about what'll happen I f I fail, gotta go back to the 9-5, and I say O H NO! I back myself into a corner and say this is the only way you're gonna get filthy rich. Or I can go back to living an uninspired life and I say NO WAY!!

Probably the best answer to this question would be multifaceted, because it really depends on what, specifically, is making you not feel motivated on each particular day.

Obviously, any true & lasting motivation (and I realize that this is something which people have already said) comes from developing and defining your 'why'; WHY do you want to be successful? Why must you be successful? What does success mean for you? What does having money allow you to do? It is important to note here that simply the desire for money is not enough, your why must be for something more than money. Money, in and of it's self, is not enough of a motivator, it must be something more tangible like time with your family or vacations, or something like that. The more specific you are with your why, the more persuasive it will become for you.

Another important part of my personal motivational plan is meditation. The best meditation CDs I have found come from the Centerpointe Research Institute (non-affiliate link). This meditation will, specifically, help you to eliminate your non-supportive habits and achieve a clarity in your life that would (without the technology) take 30 years in a monastery to achieve. This is helpful because it allows you to achieve ever higher states of self-awareness and gives you access to the parts of your mind which were previously unavailable to you; your sub-conscious mind is about 30,000 times more powerful than the conscious part of your mind, meditation (in any form) helps you to put that power to work for you rather than against you (in the form of empowering self-limiting beliefs that your mind assumes are important to be true for you since you spend so much time thinking about them).

The third part of my multifaceted attack on laziness and procrastination is the Ultimate You Library by Paul Scheele of Learning Strategies Corporation (non-affiliate links). These CDs are powerful hypnosis combined with the Holosync audio tracks from Centerpointe Research Institute that will put you in the absolute correct state-of-mind for total relaxation and accelerated learning. These are very powerful to achieve whatever you want to in terms of self-development.

Lastly, I have found that having some sort of spiritual life is crucially important to staying upbeat and positive throughout life's trials and tribulations. Personally, I am a Christian because that belief works for me, you may find that something else works for you and that is totally ok with me. Whatever you choose, make sure that it is in complete agreement with your personal morals and ethics and that it also is supportive, forgiving, and causes you to want to do good in the world and to leave this earth better than you found it.

I stay motivated because I know if I don't keep going nothing is ever going to change. I am going to go back to do something I don't want to be doing that does not really allow me to live the life I know I deserve. Some people just decide that having just enough is good enough or they are just to afraid to do anything to change their lives.

Me I don't ever want to struggle to pay my bills ever again. I want to travel when I want and have the opportunity to help those less fortunate. This is what keeps me going when most people would just quit.

It's great to have the flexibility of working any time, any place, but operating without any structure can hurt your productivity. Divide your day up into blocks. Fried and Heinemeier Hansson suggest using "Catch-up, Collaboration, and Serious Work" as your labels. Maybe you take a break between "Collaboration" and "Serious Work" to have a snack or play a game with your kids. The important thing is to use a relatively consistent schedule each day. Sure, you can switch it up once in a while — that's one of the huge benefits of remote working — but having a set routine will help you switch between professional and personal modes from the confines of your own house.

The most important thing I've learned about self-motivation is putting up a goal that's 10 times bigger than what you think you want, and then taking 10 times more action than what you thought you'd have to take to achieve it. The kind of energy it gives you is amazing. It always, always works for me.

There are a lot of great examples have given on how they stay motivated. In life there will always be peaks and valleys but the key is to try to level them off as much as possible which can be difficult to do. We have a great day today and a horrible day tomorrow, you make 50 sales today and none for the next 4 days. That can be a difficult pill to swallow.

I stay motivated by focusing on 2 things - Family & Money with my main source of Motivation being Family. Most of us are here to make money and for a number of different reasons. Some want to make money to support their family, to buy a dream car, house, boat, etc. For me personally, I want to make money so I'm able to provide my family with a comfortable life, pay for the kids college, and retire early. The key for me is to not let money get in the way but instead allow it to enhance our life and try to be efficient as possible so money can give me more time to spend with my wife and kids. In order to do this I'm very diligent about my schedule and I always do my best to stay on task. I never put things off because I know that more and more "To Do's" will pile up which means that I'll have less time with my family.

I meditate, Also use a variety of techniques. I like to visualize for 10-15 minutes everyday right before I get up out of bed. I see myself where I want to be. I use NLP and EFT to also help program my mind.

There are a few ways to do this;

1. You have to be grateful for what you have now
2. Be grateful for the people in your life
3. Have a purpose (what do you love doing that helps people?, do that!)
4. Surround yourself with people who are doing steps 1-3.

Motivation doesn't last long enough for me to really depend upon it. I'll find myself highly-motivated one day and then the next day nothing can motivate me. Fortunately, I have developed some serious tenacity, will power, and self-discipline. Even on the days when I feel like crap I'm still able to keep going because of my self-discipline and will power.

I came to the realization that if I don't do what I have to do then nobody will do it for me, and a year from now I'll be stuck in the same position or even worst. That realization has allowed me to push through fear and discomfort when motivation wasn't enough.

I can't say that I always stay motivated... I get motivation, lose it after a while, then get it again, and so on...

I don't believe in getting motivated then taking action.

Take action first.. The motivation will come.

For me, creativity is the only motivating force that really works. I tried everything else but nothing else works like creativity.

Sometimes I learn from my 4 year old son just by watching him play. He is definitely motivated, he just gets busy creating something interesting. Never questioning himself, never in doubt about his motivation. He doesn't know what motivation is, he is naturally motivated.

Creativity is limitless and endless energy.

The problem is that most of us get this all wrong after we go through school where they teach us that creativity is not the most important thing in life. I am here to tell you that not only creativity is the most important thing in our lives, but actually, there is nothing else but creativity in this entire universe. Creativity is, in fact, the nature of our reality.

If we struggle against our own creative energies, we can easily destroy our selves. Today most of us struggle and work hard because we are told that's what we're supposed to do and unfortunately, we believe it.

To motivate myself i spend some hours for my own heart , i follow my willingness for some time frame . for example i do not stop myself to play my favorite game or to eat favorite dish by traveling few hours. Afterwards i feel strong motivation towards my goal and it makes me really happy all day.

I am already motivated. It has often been said that you can’t motivate people. This is only part of the picture of course. It is like saying I can’t move someone else’s legs for them with my mind to walk them around the room. But I can use my mind to say certain words to this person to I know will get them to walk. To a friend I can ask them to get me a glass of water and they would probably start walking to do that.

On a marketing forum such as this that is what it is all about. Saying certain words (or displaying certain images) we know will evoke a certain type of emotional reaction which almost always produces a desired behavior ending in buying a product.

I am already in the game, so to speak. Some days I have greater motivation than others (some days I need to rest or have fun – a different type of motivation). Since I recognize I am already in the game I have done my first motivation. I realize I am already motivated. And I simply ask myself, “What am I motivated to do? And Then I simply ask what do I need? Food, sleep, sex, power, money, relaxation, toys, love, joy, inspiration, etc. etc. Then I go get it.

Another example would be the father who wants their child to be a heart surgeon and the child wants to go into marketing but doesn’t. How does the child become a successful heart surgeon AND ENJOY LIFE? They don’t, they just usually don’t. I hope you are not asking this type of question.

Only I think what you are asking is, “How do I stay highly motivated (peak performance) when I simply am worn out?” or How do I become great and stay there? Or how do I work extremely hard and not burn out? At this point my motivation begins to turn from my goal of success to one of rest or diversion (having fun). This would lesson my “success” (however you define it) but offset it with rejuvenation. Since I am already motivated my biology and current programming are already telling me things I do and do not want to do.

How do we shift from seeing what we need to do and do not want to do to being able to enjoy our work? We find a way to turn it into joy. We align it with things that are enjoyable. We learn to enjoy our work. Lemons into lemonade.

This does get into one of the greatest questions of all time. How do we change? There is an answer to that but I don’t think that is what you are after right now. Just realize you are already motivated, now, leverage that motivation. And off you go!

Reading the prior replies, it's clear that people's different ideas about motivation are quite helpful. For example, someone said that they take action and then get motivated. What this points out to me is the danger of having the belief that unless I feel motivated, I can't do anything. If you have that belief and aren't feeling motivated, you don't move to be productive. I'd notice if I had such a belief and make a decision about its usefulness. Motivation may be a matter of "mood," such as feeling lazy or feeling inspired. You can stay with it or change it. You can change it by taking small steps, as suggested--one step is a movement that creates momentum and provides a sense of accomplishing that can be motivational. As others have suggested it is also helpful to have your goals (weekly, monthly, 3-month) written in front of you; you can have your WHYs also printed out and shown prominently in your office...with the subtitle: "Only my doing the work NOW will make this happen." Another suggestion is having the priorities for each day prepared the night before. It's like showing up for work: when you start your day your responsibilities are clear and you work at each one. Another way of keeping you moving is to reward yourself after doing a chunk of work: go for a short walk; keep a quick snack; dance or sing through a song. It's an excellent question to ask.

My girlfriend keeps me motivated more than I need, I can't thank her more.

My daily motivation is being grateful that I am awake and alive. I focus on prioritizing and accomplishing the most difficult tasks early in the day. I plan tomorrow tonight. When I awake to a new day, I am again grateful to have another blessed day. Every day I know I am one step closer to my goal.

I use various ways to stay motivated. For example

2) By watching amazing Youtube videos and motivational movies.

when am feeling depressed, i just try to think positively and tell myself everything will be okay in the end. I also tell myself God can't give me something i can't handle so i look for solutions for every problem that comes my way.

Your mindset has to be in the right place to stay motivated.
But reading success stories always gets me competitive and helps me work harder everyday.

It may seem shallow, but I'm also motivated by certain material objects, and if that helps you, then great!
It also helps to always take a step back and remember what you've already accomplished.

One of the most effective ways I've found to keep my motivation is to continuously feed my mind with motivational foods such as reading millionaires'/get rich books, success stories, as well as self-development. I always listen to audiobooks with my walkman while relaxing and while driving. Most of the times the feeling is great that I really want to jump into my business straightaway as soon as I got the chance.

Achievement and good results after doing something from your heart is the best motivation

I listen to hypnosis tracks that I found on this forum and they do an amazing job of keeping me on my toes for mega achievements. When something goes wrong in the process I scream "RAPE" and get back on track by nullifying negative thoughts.

What motivates me is that fact that as time goes by I will regret not doing the things that are important in my life. We all have goals and dreams, and If you just take the time to imagine what your life will look like in 5-10 years time, if you work smart you will succeed.

It's so much easier to waste time watching tv, eat pizza, drink beer and wait for life to get better. That's okay, once done in moderation. But It's much more rewarding to go after what you want, rather than sit around and wait for lady luck to cast a spell of "Good Luck" upon us. That's unlikely gonna happen. You create your own reality by the thoughts you think and the actions you take in life.

Each of us have the power to make life as interesting and exciting as we want it to be, by controlling what goes on between the ears.

If we could all be grateful and appreciate the good that we already have in life (count our blessings), it would be easier to be more productive, instead of waiting for inspiration to get us to take action.

What motivates me is, giving up on the things that never had any real value in my life and focusing on doing the things that really matter (eg, regular exercise, good health, business, love & relationships) and how I want to experience life now and in the future.

Over time I am realizing more and more that if you just look to be motivated before beginning to make something happen then I will have a really hard time. It is not everyday that I feel like I want to work, but I remind myself why I am doing this by looking at pictures of my family members and some things that I really want.


You need to have a why or a reason that is bigger than you. If you are doing it for you family to have a better life then you will be able to work long after you feel like you just want to give up and call it quits.

Look around you. See all the folks in repetitive day jobs. Doesn't matter where really, but just go to a supermarket. Do you think they are happy sitting at a counter, making $1300 a month for 180 hours of work? Probably they are. Why? Because they forgot about what their chances in life are and got used to this kind of life. They adjusted so well that they simply don't know any better.

Not becoming like this is what motivates me every day. Creating my own future. Deciding for myself and if necessary, others too. Helping people to not become like this, because there is a better way of living.

I'm trying to measure my improvement, because it keeps me sharp all the time. I use the combination of project management and time tracking software.

I read this thread with interest. Every day I go through hours of hopelessness and try to find a way to get motivated to do some more blogging.

So for most of the day for months now, instead of creating new content I've spent time at things like checking affiliate reports, Analytics reports, running numbers, emailing, doing research, improving the website, watching motivational videos, reading forums... all to try to find signs that I'm going to make money at this. It's so hard to see any hint of that at this point when after several months I'm making almost nothing and traffic hasn't increased much despite many valuable and well written blog posts that I'm trying to get noticed. Some days are better than others and I work up the motivation to work on content.

I think the best thing for me to do is spend a lot more time cranking out new blog posts, but it's so demotivating when every morning I get hit again with the reality that I'm seeing barely any improvement in traffic and earnings, and I start the same cycle over, going through everything to try to find some hint of what might be working.

For me, I've been in the mode of always striving for more for so long, it's more a habit than anything else to keep trying to do and be more. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, honestly, but I do know that action is nearly automatic for me since I'm such a habit of taking it.

Desperation is a great ongoing motivator. If you're uncomfortable, you're blessed. Have time oriented goals in your mind, ones that are predicated only on what you can do. I'll have some coffee and read some excellent tidbits for the mind, the WARRIOR WAY.

1. Set a goal and visualize it down to the most minute detail. See it, feel it, hear the sounds that accompany the end result (wind rushing through your hair, applause). Elite athletes visualize their performance ahead of time — right down to the smell of the sweat dripping down their face as they cross the finish line.

2. Make a list of the reasons you want to accomplish the goal. In our busy, distracting world, it’s easy to get blown off course. This is why you need to ground yourself in your goal. For extra “success insurance,” write your list with a pen. Studies show that when we write by hand and connect the letters manually, we engage the brain more actively in the process. Because typing is an automatic function that involves merely selecting letters, there’s less of a mental connection.

3. Break the goal down into smaller pieces and set intermediary targets — and rewards. I’ve called this “chunking” long before there was a Wikipedia to explain that there are eight variations of the concept. To me it’s the best non-pharmaceutical antidote to ADHD. Tony Robbins, arguably the foremost motivational speaker and personal development coach, says: “A major source of stress in our lives comes from the feeling that we have an impossible number of things to do. If you take on a project and try to do the whole thing all at once, you’re going to be overwhelmed.”

Enter chunking. My system involves chipping away at a project. Break it down into the smallest realistic steps and only do one at a time. Neuroscience tells us that each small success triggers the brain’s reward center, releasing feel-good chemical dopamine. This helps focus our concentration and inspires us to take another similar step. Try this with your bte noire, whether organizing your papers and bills or setting out to find a new job.


4. Have a strategy, but be prepared to change course. Let Thomas Edison inspire you in this department: “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up." "The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

5. Get the help you need. It doesn’t necessarily take a village, but even if you could theoretically accomplish your objective alone, there’s inherent value in sharing your plan. It’s why people get married in front of witnesses. Announcing your intentions sends a strong message to the world and, more important, to your unconscious mind, which can sometimes sabotage our best efforts. Also, we often overestimate our abilities. The flip side is being highly selective about whom you tell and ask for help. It’s akin to the builder’s rule to always get “the right tool for the right job.”

6. Pre-determine how you will deal with flagging motivation. This is not defeatist thinking. On the contrary! It’s (almost) inevitable that at some point along the way, whether because of temporary setbacks or sheer exhaustion, you will need a little boost. When that happens, I think of what others have endured to reach their targets and to quash even the beginning of a pity party, I invoke the most hard-core endurance models I can think of: friends fighting serious diseases and Holocaust survivors.

7. Continually check in with your reasons for carrying on. Despite his all-too-human flaws, Steve Jobs embodied this brilliantly. He once told an interviewer: “I think most people that are able to make a sustained contribution over time — rather than just a peak — are very internally driven. You have to be. Because, in the ebb and tide of people's opinions and of fads, there are going to be times when you are criticized, and criticism's very difficult. And so when you're criticized, you learn to pull back a little and listen to your own drummer. And to some extent, that isolates you from the praise, if you eventually get it, too. The praise becomes a little less important to you and the criticism becomes a little less important to you, in the same measure. And you become more internally driven.”

To me keeping focused on my goals and using the principle of "pleasure vs pain" is very, very helpful.

I have a wonderful daughter who is interested in sports and music. Instrument and sports gear are not cheap. Seeing the friendships she developed through her hobbies and how excited she is every time she learns something new motivates me. I'm motivated to keep hustling so I can buy her gear and I remind myself that learning something new is a reason to celebrate.

I call upon a supreme entity and channel my spirit with energy. Heaps of motivation there.

I found warmth in my Master's nest so my soul shall be rest.

I am still getting huge results with the power of hypnosis.

I agree fully with your statement! Sometimes I like to just vision myself being truly free...no job....no boss...no worries just living the financial free life I know I deserve. I also try to use my desire for wanting a little princess a baby daughter as well to give me that push. I like to look at it like the decisions I make now will determine the greater life she will live so I have to make sacrifices now and work hard now so she won't have to go through the things I have growing up.

It's always hard. I don't think it's possible to stay motivated 24/7. But the real strength comes when you rise up after being knocked down.

For me I'm 59 divorced, rarely see or hear from my two children and have debts, been given a life expectancy of 18 - 24 months,
I will see the world and leave a legacy for my children. Driven or What!!!

Work its self is a big motivation,If you don t work it means you are not living in true sense.Work makes your living more flexible and easy.I work because i love to work and this love for my work is motivation.

Some days, all it takes is music to get me into a motivated, inspired state of mind. Other days, I need a little more so I'll watch an inspirational documentary about others who have succeeded before me, or read a biography of one of my mentors, things like that.

On a day to day basis, I exercise daily and make sure I'm eating healthy foods (a balance of protein, veggies, carbs, healthy fats, lots of water) on a consistent basis. I also meditate daily, even if it's only for five or ten minutes at a time. Meditation is brain exercise, soul exercise where the gym is physical exercise. We need it all. We need that balance in order to make all those other things (the inspirational music, documentaries, etc.) more effective.

My general thinking is that if I work hard now, I'll be able to relax in comfort later in my life.

During the day-to-day grind, I make sure to take breaks to make a cup of coffee, run to the bakery, send an email to a family member or friend. These small breaks from work help keep me connected to the world around me and make me feel grounded and ultimately grounded as I am reminded why I'm working so hard!

I stay motivated by listening to daily affirmations, and surrounding myself with people who are much more successful than me.

Don't mess with territories you're not familiar with.

Motivation is nothing but a Belief!
Motivation from external factors is not as effective as it comes internally.
People can motivate us, music can ignite the flare, lectures can teach us much, but at the end, we will do what we believe is we should do.

For me, Motivation comes to you from the right priorities you will set in your life. It is the strong belief about what you think is worth doing and is actually the right thing to do.

If you think there is some Motivation problem with you, it shows your beliefs needs to fixed. Maybe what's right isn't actually right and what's wrong isn't wrong.

Don't let obstacles of life ruin your urge in achieving those dreams. It's not about whether you achieve your dreams or not; its about all those efforts you put in, It's about all those times you never fall for the negativity. Chase your dreams, by spreading happiness within you and to the concerned one

I always believe that every failure I make during my journey will help me get a bit closer to success. Hence, with this solid thought it is not very hard to keep myself motivated whenever countering losses.
