Procrastination - It was our choice.

We become procrastinators, because at one point in our life we used it to protect ourselves from some real or perceived threat. Our subconscious mind took it as a cue and stated to apply it to every situation in our life. Our subconscious mind got stuck with this concept. Unless and until we help our subconscious get un-stuck with this belief, we will be procrastinators for the rest of our life, no matter how hard we try.

There are some very good techniques, tips and tricks given by other warriors in this forum to help the unconscious mind get un-stuck . The strange thing about self improvement technique is that what works for one person may or may not work for other because people, their life experiences and their belief systems are unique. Only way to find out if a technique would work for you or not is by trying it yourself. If you have tried many techniques and nothing seem to work for you, you just have to keep trying different techniques until you find your golden key. If you are interested in trying an unconventional technique that may help you get un-stuck, just PM me for a free one on one session.

Most of the time procrastination has no relation to whining or owning "a pair". There are multiple factors involved. Good for you that you've never had to face that problem (or no longer do, whatever the case may be).

Definition of procrastination "putting off or delaying or defering an action to a later time"

Can you give me some examples of the multiple factors involved?

        Cheers,

Fear of failure is a big one, which could be related to whining in some cases; but not always.

Indecisiveness/Fear of making the wrong decision: Not being sure whether Project "A" or Project "B" is the one to shoot for. But then there's Project "C", which just might be the better choice.

Time constraints: A project is so big that you wait until there's enough time to tackle it. This can be closely related to feeling overwhelmed by the size of a project. This one affects me a lot, because I'm the kind of person who starts something and won't let it go until it's finished. That usually means ignoring everything else in my life for the entire time it takes to do it, and that's rarely a good thing.

Instant Gratification: Some people tend to do what makes them feel good at the moment. If a project or task doesn't satisfy that immediate desire, it's going to be put off until it becomes more feel-good than anything else going on the person's life.

Those are a few of the factors involved, though not always all at the same time. There are others but I'll post them tomorrow. :p

Agree there are many reasons why we procrastinate. but all of them are related one way or the other to fear..

            How to combat fear?

I still think that's an over-generalization of the problem. Whining?? I don't think I have ever whined about projects that aren't getting done; I simply didn't do them, and did other things instead. And fear? Isn't fear also a reason why people DO get things done? They're afraid of NOT getting what they want. In fact, I would say there are also people who whine about being afraid of not doing something.

The actual way to end procrastination is to just do it. There is nothing more to it than that. Whatever decision you make will be the right one, because you will learn from it, regardless of the consequences.

Common everyone does it.. whining can also be internal.. when speaking to ourselves..

Your telling me that you never though "i don't want to do this now" "i prefer watching tv" etc

                Cheers,

I agree with you there are many factors involved. People who did not have the problem of procrastination would not understand it. I have been there and know how hard it is. It is great if people could over come it with their own efforts. But there are people who could use some help. It gives me great pleasure to see them over come procrastination with the technique I teach them, especially when they tried other techniques and failed.

Create a vision board. Look at it every time you're feeling "stuck."

Remind yourself of why you're doing this in the first place.

Make your goals known and list all the benefits of achieving those goals.

Be more afraid of NOT TAKING ACTION.

Combine all of these things and you can kiss procrastination goodbye.

I guess it depends on your definition of whining. To me, simply saying to oneself, "I don't want to do this now", is merely a statement of desire or non-intent. But to say something like, "Ohhhh, do I really have to do thisssss? It's so much to doooooo. ohhhhh...". LOL A little exaggerated but you get the gist.

  • Maybe it's just me but sometimes I feel like I am choosing to procrastinate. It isn't so much from wanting to protect myself from any threat. It feels more like laziness really: a wish not to do that particular task.

When that circumstance occurs and remains persistent, I make a deal with myself to do the work for a payoff. That generally takes care of the stalling issue for me.

Going beyond the typical "shiny object syndrome", which is basically too many options and not enough firm decisions, I think that many people including myself worry about simply not making the right decision.

Concern/doubt about not choosing the right method, niche, domain name etc, that's what leads to the addiction to the WF and WSO's. You become the world's greatest student. You have bookmarks, courses and notes, but you never produce anything.

The real secret is knowing, believing and understanding that you will never know what actually works unless you try it.

You can research forever and not find the plan that's actually going to work for you. You can only figure that out by beginning to build and create things and seeing what happens as a result.

All you have to do is pick the option you think is best, the option that makes more sense, and more importantly, the option that you believe you can best implement with your current skill level and resources.

I've just had the 3 most productive days of my IM career - all because I took it seriously, I had some external pressure, and I focused on money-making activities and the options (techniques, methods etc) that I could do the best with my current resources.

Stop worrying about right and wrong and understand that everything you do is progress towards your goals.

I agree with both sides of the argument to an extent. There are many reasons why we procrastinate but I also believe that the one true solution to combat it is to simply make the decision that you are not going to do it any more. It sounds simple enough but I've been consciously making these internal decisions recently on a number of things and it really is as simple as that for me to make these changes, it's not something that someone else can do for you.

It is great to see people who motivate themselves to take action in order to get things done, to succeed. But there are people who know that they have to take action in order to get things done, to succeed, but for some reason could not motivate themselves to take action. No matter how hard they try, no matter how much they struggle to motivate themselves, they always manage not to take action.

They alawys find a reason not to take action. All they have to do is find out an effective way to look inside and find out which of thier belief system is giving them the reason not to take action and try to come to term with it.

This is what I love in Warrior Forum.
The arguments was awesome, they have their own point of view on how to stop procrastination. We really need to consider a lot of factor why people begins to procrastinate. But procrastination is just a matter of choice so you're the only one who can stop procrastination.

Yes you do have to figure out what works for you. It can take some time to figure it out sometimes but just keep trying. Sooner or later you will find what works for you.
