Consumption, The Opposite Of Production?

To start with we can admit the truth that openly or secretly we love our habits of consumption and maybe resent our habits of production. No? Well, . . .maybe just resent until the reward of the sale.

"Consumption is the act of using a product or service for the happiness it brings you directly. You consume a product by using it. In the process you use it up. You are a consumer of food, of automobiles, of music, of recreation, of leisure, of many things that bring you happiness."

On the other hand,

"Production is the performance of a service that will make it possible to have something to consume. You may perform that service for yourself or for others. You are a ;roducer when you work for a company, when you sell products, when you make a sandwich, when you mow someone's lawn, when you repair something." TheSecretOfSellingAnythnig - Harry Brown

Now apparently the key to the lock here is to strike a balance between our consumption and production. Is the answer that simple?

I think, for most of us, the balance is already there. Most humans spend about 100% of the money they make.

If you spend more than that...you get poorer. If you spend less than that...you gain wealth.

But most, maybe 95-99% are consumption oriented. They contribute enough to society to get the things they want, and live the way they want...but nothing more.

Maybe 1% aspire to something more. Contributing more to society than they get. That's how companies are built. That's how big things get accomplished.

    That's how wealth is created.

Want to know which one you are? Do you think about vacations? Retirement? The weekend? Then likely you are like nearly everyone else. You are consumer driven. That's why we are called "consumers"...because consumption is what we want.

Do you hate the idea of going on vacation, because of the loss of personal production? Do you look forward to Mondays?

That's telling too. Balance is healthy. Moderation is safe.

But nothing is accomplished with Balance. Great things happen only when you produce far more than you consume. At least, that's my experience.

So basically you have to have yin and yang?
