Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

Becoming a success means stepping out of your comfort zone.

This is a lesson that took me a long time to learn. I have been in business for over ten years - first as a writer and now as a writer/online entrepreneur.

In the beginning, I put myself in uncomfortable situations all the time. Writing queries. Pitching clients. Visiting new forums or social groups. Networking. Learning SEO. Learning Wordpress. The list is quite vast.

Then, I got a bit stuck and kept doing the same things over and over gain. Consistency is good sometimes, but it isn't when trying to break through a barrier.

Yesterday was the first time in a long time that I learned a new skill. Today, I've stepped out of my comfort zone several times. It is empowering and I am finally making the progress I need to take things to the next level.

So, I just wanted to pass this along. If you're stuck - sometimes it takes getting uncomfortable for a time in order to make the next milestone.

Do you guys have any stories to share of how stepping out of a comfort zone helped you out?

Good to hear that you stepped out of your comfort zone and it empowered you to do more. It is always a great feeling when that happens.

      • Coming to this Forum group was challenging, uncomfortable only because it was NEW and came with a specific set of rules.

In that regard I had to step out of my comfort zone in order to be able to participate in that which I love to do. My family has been a big encouragement in this. Yea Family!

I look to contribute in as many ways as possible to the Forums. This is, after all, a unique place and a standing grand opportunity!

        Thank you,

        LLS

Yes, there is a specific climate here and it is worth it to sifting through the rules. It took me a while to really understand how things worked and I am still learning. Utilizing all the tools here has been a big part of my initial "comfort zone" statement.

I never made good money online until I decided to scare the heck out of myself as much as possible

It all started when I was about to quit my job and all my sites got hit by a Google change. I had two choices.

    a.) Stay in a job I hated
b.) Continue with my plans to move to the Philippines

I said screw it and I turned in my two weeks, bought a ticket and left. I bootstrapped the heck out of it to build a six figure outsourcing business.

I was scared to launch my first product and then I forced myself to start creating products based of things I was doing online to make money.

Next that led to networking with some bigger names and then launching a system I created and it generated over $45k.

From there I decided to start doing video marketing and my business blew up almost over night. I was then able to sell high ticket coaching, affiliate products or anything I wanted.

Success is outside your comfort zone.

It's great to have a daily routine and do the high leverage things in your business everyday that makes you money, but if you don't learn to start scaring yourself a little bit and doing things other people won't, you won't break through any barriers.

    Allow yourself to play BIG.

Pick whatever scares you the most and do it first. Once you conquer that everything else becomes easy.

I completely agree! It took me quite some time to get out of my comfort zone with being consistent in building my business. It was far easier to not take the action I felt that I needed to do. Taking action can be the greatest ingredient in moving beyond what is holding you back.

If you truly want to change your life you must do uncomfortable things, you must leave your comfort zone.

What you will soon learn is that once you start leaving your comfort zone and repeatedly do those uncomfortable task you will find that these uncomfortable task are not so uncomfortable over time and you will soon have a new comfort zone and you will be amazed to find how much you will have grown as a person and how things will start to flow your way.

Another benefit of stepping outside your comfort zone is, once you step out side of it and develop a new comfort zone, your new comfort zone can never snap back to its old size. Soon you will find yourself actually wanting to continue to stretch your comfort zone by stepping out side of it, cause every time you step out side your comfort zone, you grow as a person in mind, body and spirit and the financial rewards are great too!

    Comfort zone=fear!

In order to achieve any signignificant success in any area of life we need to get rid of fear. By getting rid of fear, we will be stepping out of the comfort zone and start to take meaningful action.

Not playing baseball because of the fear of striking out will never make you a baseball legend!!

Get out, step in the batter's box, swing for the fences and eventually, with enough practice and perseverance, you will start hitting home runs.

Hidding in the dugout because it is "comfy" will not make you a better player.

I have read this from a book which was really awesome. This phrase was so amazing that I keep on saying this to myself...

"Do not let comfort be the discerning factor in our life"

The thing is... if you're not constantly stepping out of your little sandbox, you're not experiencing radical growth.

I've had my fair share of that:
    - First opening my first business...
    - Juggling a few businesses at the same time...
    - Outsourcing...
    - Testing radical product ideas and marketing strategies...
    - Going against the norm...
    - Public speaking... (Heck, this never gets old)

But in my years of doing business, I really have something else to add on to this whole "step out of your comfort zone" thing.

    You need a balance.

Don't step so far out of your reach, and get paralyzed instead. What I mean is, to take determined, but reachable steps towards your goals.

Henry Ford said, "Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into small jobs".

Also, stepping out of your comfort zone does not mean *not* listening to your gut instincts. The thing about this is that you need an effective balance, and hear your inner voice with a clear head.

Fire me a pm if you have a question. I build businesses and provide consulting. I do not do finance/money/internet marketing niches. Fitness, self-improvement and various others are welcome.
