"Nothing Is Impossible For A Person Who Doesn't Know It Can't Be Done!"

This famous Gary Halbert brain stopping quote is from his sales letter, "Mindset".
Of course this quotation does not speak to everyone who wants to be the master of his own life. No. No. This is guidance for a very special kind of person.

One who is already an up and down success or darn close to it.

Many may argue that what Gary says can apply to everyone, but that everyone must possess some very strong personality characteristics such as discipline, self-assuredness, tenacity, and sheer will and that reduces the field of persons considerably, . . .for now.

Sure enough, "nothing IS impossible for a person who doesn't know it can't be done!". But the proof of that is in the way daily challenges to one's goal are dispatched and ultimately if that goal was ever achieved in the time frame declared.

I hate over generalized all or nothing thinking. Very common irrational distortion.

"Nothing", "Everything", "Everyone", "Anyone" "Always", "Never" etc.

Very few things ever truly qualify as true absolutes in those. And yet they are constantly thrown around such as in this case and many similair sayings, and it only serves to invalidate perfectly good somewhat true concepts.

You're right, it does take a very specific person for this to apply to because it's not universal at all. Things certainly are in the realm of possibility, but it's more of whether it is probable.

"Nothing Is Impossible For A Person Who Doesn't Know It Can't Be Done!"

I think that's silly. But it appeals to people who dream about great things...but don't actually put in the effort.

A truer statement may be; "Nothing Is Impossible For A Person Who Learns How It Can Be Done!".

And "Nothing is impossible to attempt..for a person who doesn't know it can't be done."

Limits in our abilities are fuzzy sometimes, meaning we don't know exactly what we can do....

I know I can hold my breath for a minute. I don't know exactly how long I can hold my breath without passing out...but it will never be 24 hours. No matter what I do. So the limit is fuzzy, but not limitless.

It reminds me of the "The bumble bee can't fly. It's aerodynamically impossible.... But the bumble bee doesn't know that it can't fly...so it does".

Inspiring to some, but untrue. Obviously it can fly. And not because the bumble bee is unaware of it's limits.

I can't fly like Superman. No matter how much I believe or wish it. And everyone who has ever tried...in the history of this planet...has learned that the hard way.

"Nothing Is Impossible For A Person Who Doesn't Know It Can't Be Done!"

So ignorance is the key? Not understanding laws of physics? Not doing the math? Not testing? That's the key?

Some of these sayings are deeply inspiring....
But they really have to be true to mean much.

      Except here.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

I must admit...this looks like fun. You're actually gliding, and you can go for great distances. You're right, darn close to flying.

I was actually thinking that someone would mention that we invented the airplane.

Yeah it does look like fun. I'd definitely be anxious before jumping out of the plane though. : )
