Metaphor: The Magic Bridge To Sales

Trying to write a good metaphor is like trying to step off a high dive board. You know it's a great challenge, but if you do it well the satisfaction is yours. But in spite of the resistance, perhaps some examples can emerge that will become helpful tools. You've got to try and try again if you want to succeed.

Metaphors act like a suspension bridge between the object being discussed and a comparison to another yet stronger image that the mind instantly recognizes and accepts as clever and True.

Because the mind is drawn into the comparison so quickly to the object or service being discussed, it Identifies strongly with Both the object and the comparison like a latch closing on a door making your argument stronger. The latch closes on the prospect's thinking. The metaphor is sprung, and the mind's ability to resist the equal comparison is short circuited. With the metaphor doing its job, the customer's interest continues to be held and it seems his expectations are validated as you bargain.

Metaphors used in sales efforts are not only entertaining, but work like mice in a maze to engender trust and the acknowledgement that what you are saying is not only fascinating but true. And this provides a bridge of trust that is absolutely one leg of the sale.
