What Does A Person Want Most?

Exchange "customer" with the word person. The most basic thing a person would want would be every good thing rolled into one called "happiness".

When ever this is resolutely understood and the seller applies the questions necessary to discover what would make a person happy (in at least one aspect of their lives) half the sales work is done.

Then the conversion of assisting that person to achieve that one thing to a sale can be accomplished. But there is no escaping respect for the buyer and the work necessary to learn his needs. For they will know when you are sincerely trying to help them and will in turn help you to sell them.

The very same thing applies in real life / relationships as well.

When you make your wife happy, you will get everything from her.

You nailed that one, and is worth committing to memory.

You were definitely "in the zone" when that insight came to you, as your statement is self-evident.

Totally agree with that statement. Once you are providing something they really want or need then you are providing a high class product to them.

When you provide products like this they also get the "just what I needed" response and "it's like they know me" which leads to excellent sales and most importantly happy repeat customers.

    thanks for the insight

    Great insight.

The key in maintaining a business is to make the customers happy and satisfied.

Providing services and products that do not only meet their expectations but exceed the, makes this happen.

Happy customers means repeat customers and a good number of referrals.

It will keep your business going and a definite increase in bottom line.

    Very true.

However, it's also important to note that often, the customer is bothered by larger distractions that LEAD to happiness. Meaning, they do not simply think they "want" happiness - it exists in their subconscious.

That's why they always say "avoiding pain has a larger psychological effect than gaining pleasure" - when it's really the same thing.

It's just that when you are facing pain, it activates the fight-or-flight mechanism, which focuses every single ounce of attention on that one thing.

      Hi James,

Could you elaborate on what you mean by avoiding pain is the same as gaining pleasure. Just trying to get my head around that.

To be treated as a real person by others. But there is really no hard and fast rules. We are all different and unique. What I like most in life, you would probably consider garbage. But the underlying issue here is never to know what others like. That will engender feelings of envy within you. Be yourself and to hell with the rest.

It's a common mistake especially in this digital world: forgetting that we're still dealing with real people.

@James - I also would like to know how similar avoiding pain and gaining pleasure is. They can still be different. You can be avoiding pain without looking for pleasure and on the other hand, you can still be trying to gain pleasure and not necessarily avoiding pain. Thanks!

It really differs from one to another. But everyone has an objective in life and he or she wants to achieve that objective. Common objectives include a happy life, enough money, financial stability etc. When a person gets all of these, he naturally become happy. Actually he wants to establish himself in life. So whatever be the way, when he meets the objectives he gets the actual happiness.
