My Best Advice To Newbies, And Not So Newbies

As I sit here on Sunday afternoon the day before Labor DayI'm thinking what would have been the best advice I could have received when I started Internet Marketing. Before I get to that you need to know a little bit about me.

People in the outside world offline call me Coach. You see my first love is as a private pitching, and hitting coach for baseball, and fast pitch softball. I love it, and have been doing it for many years. I've been pretty successful at it. I've coached kids who started with me at 7-8 years old who are now in college.

I do Internet Marketing when I'm not coaching because I realize that I won't be able to coach forever. I do Internet Marketing to develop retirement income.

Okay, that dates me a little bit, I'll be 60 in a few months. I've been around the block a few times.

How Internet Marketing Is Like Hitting A Baseball, Or Softball

When I take on a new hitting student, I get them to do one thing, and one thing only before getting into all the fundamentals of hitting. The very first thing we focus on is getting them to "Watch The Ball Hit The Bat." You can have a swing like Albert Pujois, but if you don't see the ball, you won't hit.

On the other hand, you can use a mop handle, and have a technically poor swing and still hit the ball if you focus on nothing else but watching the ball.

My students get sick of hearing it, but as soon as they really understand it the light goes on, and they get it. They start to HIT the ball.

My Best Advice

So here's my point, Internet Marketing is the same way, you need to focus on one thing, not 4, or 5, or 15. I often have students who are on the right track and then get a curve ball from a pitcher. Hitting a curve ball is tough but it's much easier when I tell them if they focus on seeing the seams, or stitches on the ball (super focus) as that tells them which way the ball is going to curve.

Just as hitting a baseball has the curveball Internet Marketing has shiney objects (curveballs) that make hitting the ball much more difficult. (making money).

So in Internet Marketing the best advice I can give you is to focus on the ball, and only the ball which to me is Traffic, and Conversions. Yes that's it boys, and girls that's it traffic, and conversions.

You don't even need a website for gosh sakes. Find an offer that converts, drive traffic, make money. To me paid traffic has the shortest learning curve. You get immediate feedback.

Well, I've rambled on far to long as I tend to do at times. Please, no matter what you do don't fall for all the shiney objects out there. Foucus on one thing, make that work. It will save you lot's of money, and time which is so precious.

Now keep your eye on the ball, before you strike out and are out of the game.
I hope this helps at least one person, and saves them a lot of time and money.

Just Do It!

Coach

LOL as a good baseball player playing for the first 18 years of my life I can honestly say I never looked at the ball hitting the bat! I did have one buddy tell me he did that when we were kids and guess what, he was one of the best hitters I knew. He was a big home run hitter as well. I guess I should have listened.

I really like your post and think that others should listen as well. I see too many new marketers trying to do a million things at once and they never get anything accomplished.

You really need to get a game plan and focus on that until it becomes a success. Don't jump ship and try to come up with a completely new idea just because you failed a few times. Everyone will fail before they succeed but you won't succeed unless you take those failures and learn from them. You can't learn from a mistake if you jump ship every time you make one!

Thanks for the advice given Coach. Good analogy! To be frank, as a newbie for many months, I tend to fall prey on "Shiny objects" often when I don't see result. From now on I should heed for your advice : FOCUS!

thank you for the valuable advice..

i believe that many internet marketers have tried a product/service and abandon it after a while. Only to buy the next new product that catches their attention. myself included

almost everyone knows that traffic is key to getting more sales, but we don't focus on it..

I guess that's about the simplest advise you can give. And probably the best, too. Yes, just do it. We can talk about programs the whole day, planning, resources, advertising, etc. But nothing moves until yo start doing it.

Thank you Coach for your very candid and enlightening advice to Newbies And not so Newbies. Having been struggling for over 3 years, I consider myself to be 'Not So Newbies.' Based on my experience however, I hope that many newbies will not make the mistakes that I have made in my desperation to supplement my pension.

As my profile indicates, I joined this Forum in 2011 and only have 5 posts to-date, because an experienced Marketer suggested that I join the Warrior Forum. I had no idea how to post or anything like that and it appeared intimidated.

Over the past week, I purchased a product from another Warrior Forum Expert and in his first training module he imparted enough information on the Forum and how this section can benefit Newbie marketers. I am now taking action as he advised before moving on to the next module. How I wish I could turn back the clock, I would be able to salvage thousands of dollars.

I look forward to reading more of your posts, specifically in areas of List building and converting PLR products. What's the use of having hundreds of PLR products and have no idea of how to monetize them? Hey, I have a topic for my next post.

Thank God for my inspirational motto from school days 'Perseverance never fails".
