luck is about perception .. i don't have the luck to hit a scratch ticket for more than 10 bucks..

certain things are better off not left to luck.. other times it is best to let luck work .. poker and blackjack player work systems ..and get unlucky as often as luck helps .

if luck is going to play a part .. account for there being both good and bad .

people who view themselves as lucky down play the negative stuff and notice and run with the good stuff .

a lucky person will see the hundred dollar bill the unlucky person walked over an did not see ..then share the wealth

Luck IS a perception and it's something we can control....at least in the average person's understanding of the definition of "luck"

I would err more toward the NLP definition of Luck. Which is in a nut sell that luck in merely a state of mind and as we can have control over our state of mind. We can make our own luck.

      • Mr. digitalnetworkgroup, . . . I say luck is a serendipitous appearance that just happens. It is also a relative term and each defines it according to one's current relationship with reality.

Spontaneous "good fortune" is something pretty generically sought. We all want to have a little luck, some want to hit the mother load. Imagine how many different concepts there are of what it means to have "Good Luck". And they are all valid because they are held by the recipient of said luck, the inner owner.

I agree and the average person believes (somewhat true) that luck is pure chance but obviously there are things you can do to increase your chances and thereby control our own "luck"

I always believe that you make your own future.

Whatever it is that you are doing today will define how you will be in the future.

So, you have to choose the things you do and invest your time in wisely.

There is absolutely no such thing as luck. Same as there is no such thing as the tooth fairy or ..lets not go there.

    However.

You can influence your ability to attract things. I don't mean the law of attraction (more tooth fairy).

I mean that it is scientifically proven that if someone perceives themselves to be lucky, good looking etc, then they will tend to take more chances and potentially reap more benefits.

So the perception of luck can be an influencer that leads to more breaks.

Ash from the Middle Finger Project was talking about something similar and this was the reply I gave to her on Facebook.

"Everything's going to work out. Everything always does in the end. ...when you stop waiting for someone to build you a bridge, and figure out a way to build your own motherloving bridge, instead."
I love this. In my life things good or bad always work on in the end. I used to think I was "lucky" but I started realizing I made my own "luck".

When something would go wrong I would look for the bright side. I seldom let it hold me back. It was temporary and my awesomeness was legendary and immortal. No POS event was going to **** me up because I was un****able.

The things that seemed to work out also were not luck.
-Corvette at 23? Due to making 30K/yr at 23
-Finding a job that paid better two weeks after I quite a job I hated? I was looking and took advantage of opportunity.
    Etc etc

None of that was luck. Every bit of it was on me. This is my playground & everyone else can play as long as they accept that.

BTW I also have a hate for "The Secret". Sorry but that dude didn't understand "Think & Grow Rich". Napoleon Hill would never advocate that "think happy thoughts" BS. Yes you need the right mentality but it takes way more than "happy thoughts" to change your life.

"I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it." - Thomas Jefferson

That pretty much sums up my feelings on the subject. Luck may or may not exist, and some people may or may not be luckier than others. But hard works can trump everything.

I don't believe in luck. Luck is what happens when good things happen to you and you are ready to exploit them. Bad luck is when you are not.

I wouldn't say your born lucky really its how your decisions are made lets say you make a site if its good and it doesn't get popular yes its unlucky but it doesn't mean your a unlucky person or were born unlucky just means that your site didn't prove out well.

You have to make your own luck. Yes some are born very lucky, but one can be lucky if they work hard enough and have the desire to succeed. Try and try again until you get it right then you will be lucky!

There is such thing as statistical probability. But in the end, life is what we make it. I do not believe in coincidences. I think everything happens for a reason. I believe that Love governs all. Love brings about more love. So if you truly love without expecting it to be returned, even in business, you will be benefited (directly or indirectly). Even failing can be beneficial (As Einstein would tell you). If you live life this way, everyone else who comes into contact with you will therefor be benefited. People will be attracted to you, naturally. If you approach things in the right way, anything can happen! But, again...it won't be coincidental.

I kind of believe in luck in the sense that there are times that the odds are in our favor but I don't think there's anything supernatural about that. There's good luck and bad luck so it's a matter of opportunity and preparation.

    Maybe we're all really lucky?

    1. If you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head, and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of the World.

    2. If you have money in the bank, your wallet, and some spare change, you are among the 8% of the World's wealthy.

    3. If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million people who will not survive this week.

    4. If you can read this message, you are more fortunate than 3 billion people in the World who cannot read at all.
