My Beloved sent me the following quotation from a very wise man:

"Don't follow whatever makes you happy, follow your Happiness only.

What ever makes you happy is an object, whereas your Happiness is not. If you follow what ever makes you happy, you're cooked.

It is very different when we know, or at least when we are open to the possibility, that the Happiness is not in the objects, but that Happiness is simply our own presence knowing itself. This is what we have to follow. In other words, even if an object seemingly brings about happiness, I'm not saying don't go for the object, I'm saying go for the Happiness. Be attached to the Happiness only.

Then, the object, like any other object will go, but attached to the Happiness, another object will come."

Soft of confusing but I understand your point. Anyway, what makes you happy today may change tomorrow or the next day. This thing can be short-lived.

we should have a preference for good and joyful experiences..with an ego unwilling to put up with suffering of us or those around us for any length of time.

many times there is more joy in the pursuit or purchase of a thing than the use or long term possession of a thing..and over time the possession that get built up and stored ..but hardly ever used ..get help on to not because they add anything ..in fact many times they are draining . but for the pleasant memories and hopes ..and the possiblity they will one day be of use .

your possessions possess you more than you possess them ..someone breaks into your home and steal several things you don't use or hardly use ..and you agonize over the loss .. while the items get pawned off maybe to somone else who may get pleasure from using them .

are the things the you have preventing you from having new rich experiences or are they even now adding misery to your experience .

if a thief stole half your stuff tomorrow .and you could never get it back .then you got the check for the value of the items ..what would you do .

I am not against having stuff . have the best stuff that gives you the best experience now..and when they no longer add to your experience ..allow them to move from you to somone who may get joy from them and move on to new better things to have
