How To Achieve Anything You Want

Few hours ago, I was browing through my facebook page and I saw a post by a fellow warrior member Lee McIntyre that I think we should all remind ourselves of.

"Almost everything that you want (but don't have) is *just* outside your comfort zone. Get comfortable being uncomfortable and watch your profits soar..."

How many of you agree with him?

I do 100%.

Most of the time it pays to move away from a comfort zone. So that should be a risk you are willing and ready to take. That will help even if it does not pay the way you expected it.

True! But before you "gained" the experience am sure one had to move outside his comfort zone.

I think, in order to secure and maintain any sort of competitive advantage in any industry, you need to continually push yourself beyond your comfort zone. This is becoming more and more critical nowadays, as there are MANY mediums available for one to amplify their voice.

I can tell you, as for me, right now I am extremely confident with the written word. When it comes to public speaking, I don't have a problem....I have over 30 direct reports at my "day job" and I converse with them, and speak to them in large group settings, quite frequently.

With that said, admittedly, one thing I'd LOVE to do one day is a podcast. It's funny how I can speak to huge groups of people in person, however, I get a little nervous over recording myself and having it available for public consumption. I do think, though, that, while it's great to push yourself to the limits beyond your comfort zone....you also have to consider expanding in terms of whether or not it is actually feasible for you and your business, at any one given time.

I forsee doing it "eventually" down the road, but, right now, so many other things/priorities trump doing a podcast.

    Hey Kenneth,

That is a good point. When you step away from what you normally do, you can open up some wonderful doors. While it is not always easy to do, it can be well worth the effort.

Simply being in a new and different place is never enough.

When I graduated from college and entered the professional work force, I moved out of my comfort zone. But that fact alone didn't solve any of my money or career problems or guarantee me anything.

It's not until you find your "direction" and move forward taking appropriate action that you begin to become successful.

Getting out of your comfort zone reminds me of the law of attraction advice that so many believe. What they don't recognize is that you can't just wait for good things to be handed to you.

Step up and get moving toward your goal with an eye single to success.

    Yep, agree with that 100%.

A Lion in the Jungle, and a Lion in the Zoo. One just sits around all day waiting to be fed, the other has to hunt to stay alive. Only one is King.

If you want to test your comfort threshold, take a freezing cold shower for 30 days.

Seriously dude, do you even listen to yourself? Staying inside your comfort zone breeds complacency and stagnation. You place limits on yourself with an attitude like that.

Hopefully this will clarify it. I realize this is a bit long and I'm sorry about that. I just want to be very thorough on this subject so everyone truly understands the danger around comfort zones.

You have a comfort zone for a reason. What is the state of your current comfort zone? Are you comfortable in success, struggle and survival, or failure? Often people say that staying in your comfort zone is bad. You need to stretch and grow. Well, can't you stretch your comfort zone?

It has been said that to grow you need to leave your comfort zone. This can work to some degree. Warning: too far out of your comfort zone results in pain - growing pains to be more precise. If you keep going out of your comfort zone farther and farther the pain of growth far out ways any benefits you would get. You begin to work too hard. You end up wasting your time. And leaving your comfort zone becomes your comfort zone.

To leave your comfort zone is uncomfortable. If you go further it becomes painful to the point of damaging yourself. It is interesting to note that leaving a comfort zone in either direction of health or death results in pain. Regardless of whether we seek health or death we experience the same amount of pain at the same distances in either direction OUTSIDE our comfort zone. It used to be that when we exercised - no pain, no gain was the mantra. This has been replaced with start slowly and build with just a little at a time.

Never leave your comfort zone. Instead take the steps to be responsible, healthy, and appropriate by creating just enough safety (not too much, not too little) to give yourself a reasonable chance of success - managed risk. And you can also step from one comfort zone to another when your current zone needs to be changed. You can't teach an old dog new tricks or people don't really change - unless you prepare them too. A new comfort zone is a new zone to learn new things. Sometimes you simply have to swap out your whole zone.

You cannot achieve the next higher step in life with your current state of beliefs. Changing your beliefs is moving from one comfort zone to another. Living without beliefs is damaging. Living outside your comfort zone is damaging. Beliefs are simply opinions. Obviously some opinions are far better than other. Beliefs are designed to lead us to truth and pure knowledge. Once we get truth and knowledge that opinion that got us there is no longer needed. It is cast aside for a far better opinion.

The reason why people growing up as children in some of the worst circumstances the world has ever known end up becoming some of the greatest, strongest, healthiest, successful people ever known is because their pain threshold is immense due to their painful upbringing. They have fallen so far they can rise quickly. Now it is another question as to whether they will stay at such great heights without falling again or learning to have a comfort zone of bouncing up and down repeatedly. Sometimes they don't even want or need to keep up the enormous steps of growth.

So do you want to grow steady or fast? Both? Both come with time, knowledge, and practice. By easing into it at first only you guarantee success by knowing what you are doing. You give yourself a chance by becoming familiar. This is how to "Get comfortable being uncomfortable and watch your profits soar..." as the quote that started this thread by kennthchooks

Well, I can handle millions of dollars right now, give it to me! - you say. Well, . . . let's do the math and compare the results. Millions of dollars would increase your current income by thousands of percent. What would your life be like if you decrease your income for an extended period of time by thousands of percent? That is the pain of change that you would probably experience going from where you are at to millions and millions of dollars. Sure, the pain of growth and joy is very different from the pain of falling, perversion, or sickness but it is still pain. And there is still a way to do it quickly. Think it through. Visualize it. Feel it. Experience it fully in your mind first. Use all your senses to live it first - see it, feel it, hear it, taste it, smell it. Many books have already been written on this subject. Find one and do it. There is no need to go into it here. All you are doing is bringing it into your comfort zone and believing it as a reality. Then it becomes a reality.

When you want to change - move from comfort zone to comfort zone smoothly. When you want to grow - receive what will teach you into your comfort zone - the good, the bad, and the ugly. Enjoy the good, learn from the bad, and expand beyond the ugly. The fastest way is to do what you are meant to be doing. Find that, do it and you will have the greatest success imaginable in the quickest amount of time. Then change your beliefs to even healthier ones. It is a step by step process. Once you realize this and start taking each step as it is given to you - you can begin to climb the steps at a faster and faster rate while expanding your comfort zone and/or moving from comfort zone to comfort zone.

Stop leaving your comfort zone. That is very painful. It is the essence of rejection. It is the starting point of opening ourselves up to succumbing to failure. Essentially it is pulling the trigger of a gun. You cannot stop the bullet from coming out of the gun once you've pulled the trigger. Theoretically you think you can. But nobody can in practice. But people will keep thinking they can because theoretically they can do it in their head. Good luck with that! You'll need it.

Everything has been created to serve your good. All things are for your good - the good, the bad and the ugly. All of the good in the world, the bad things, and the ugly things - all have been created and/or allowed to exist to show you that you are already perfect. Anger, frustration, ignorance, self beat up, guilt - can all be done perfectly as well. Acknowledge that you are doing it perfectly, stay aware that you are doing it and see how quickly you stop doing it. Then change those beliefs to healthy better ones. It is a step by step process. Once you realize this and start taking each step as it is given to you - you can begin to climb the steps at a faster and faster rate while in your comfort zone and/or moving from comfort zone to comfort zone.

Yes, you can leave your comfort zone. And it is painful. Some people have put themselves into such a state that there is no choice but to leave the comfort zone and suffer in order to become successful. Once they do it well then it becomes comfortable and only then can they enjoy success. It is living fully. Living can come in stages. It is the comparison between truth and living. Fully living is more than just money.

Moving through what you need to is growth. If you move slowly - you move slowly. If you get it done quickly - you get it done quickly. Do a wonderful job of it. As necessary - acknowledge and see how you are failing in order to learn.

The only time to leave your comfort zone is to move gracefully to the next comfort zone. No pain, no gain is simply outdated. Unless your goal is to like pain. I prefer to transform pain into enjoyment in order to enjoy success.

I think that going out of our comfort zones is the only way to reach our true potential in life. The guy who is always pushing his limits, will be exposed to more opportunities, people, experiences, and knowledge, which can lead to financial growth.

It's easier said than done to step out of the comfort zone. It requires lots of mental toughness and some serious "balls" to do it consistently or often.

I fully support going out of your comfort zone if you want to achieve something. That is why we have to take risks. The common mistake we do though is either we are too afraid to go out our comfort zone or people are too aggressive that they test the water with both their feet.

I couldn't agree more. In order to succeed, most of us have to move outside our comfort zone. Moving out of your comfort zone scares a lot of people, and people tend to stay where they are and not push themselves. It doesn't have to be a massive step outside of your comfort zone, just do it gradually and what was once hard a few months ago will now be a lot easier.

Everything that I've done in my life where I've felt uncomfortable or took a chance has had positive results (eventually).. even the lessons I've learned as a result of a directly bad outcome after taking a chance have been positive.

be aware enough to know what you don't know, what you need to learn and have confidence in yourself to let yourself make mistakes when you take chances

  • It is true to me. When I sold real estate in the 90's the saying then was, "Fear Things First". That always put me out of my comfort zone and it really helped closing sales in a pretty complicated and competitive industry.

Well yeah this makes sense if you know what they mean by it.
In other words, if you're doing the same thing and getting the same results, it's probably because you're doing things that are within your comfort zone.

So in order to get those things you want, but don't have, then you must go outside your comfort zone to get em. If that means calling more people, sales calls to businesses, asking for the job, whatever, you have to place yourself in a situation that makes you stretch your current activities so that you can achieve more that what you're currently achieving.

      I do agree.

Sometimes people forget their dreams. You accept the current circumstances for what they are, refuse to reach what you always wanted and prefer to stay in your comfort zone.

Getting out of the comfort zone is also understanding that life is about risks. Dont worry about failure, its part of the learning process.

      Want to achieve anything you want? Break thru your mental barriers and your "subconscious thought patterns" that might holding you back like;

"only bad things happen to me"
"i cant be my own boss because i'll fail"
"i cant try an online business, others will exploit me"

      and so on...

Dont be afraid to try something new or implement new ideas. Always focus on what WORKS instead of focusing on what didnt.

I would say instead of thinking too much, people should take more action! I've heard many people in my business complaining how it can't be done, how it's too late etc,
instead of doing the same, I just concentrated my energy and motivation on my work and I did it, I freakin' did it!

      This.

Here is where self help goes wrong: Its easy to sell the power of positive thinking. Just think of riches and everything will be fine!

We live in a world of cause and effect. Success comes through action its as simple as that.

Most of us have a good mindset, we arent negative people, we know the virtue of money, we beleive we can live in opulence. What seperates those who achieve and those that don't are three things.

      1) A clear goal.
      2) A clear strategy.
      3) ACTION.

Without 3, 1 and 2 are useless. That doesn't sell books though does it.

That doesnt neccesarily mean leaving your comfort zone, although it may do. I say play to your strengths. But then again, sometimes you need to force things.

I read that all. I disagree with a lot of it but resonate with the general message. Growth is an essential human need, but we need to have one foot stable enough on the ground before taking the next step. If we don't learn how to stabilize our feet after each step, we will flail through life and rationalize that we're "living outside our comfort zone", when in reality we never learned how to be comfortable!

I run my business by "controlled risk" and it's worked out great. What I mean by that is I'm constantly taking risk however none of those risk are great enough to stop the train, but maybe just slow it down here and there. Taking risk is critical. Sometimes you'll miss, sometimes you'll hit.
