10 Awesome Tips To Stay Young

My sister forwarded this message to me. I thought it would benefit anyone who reads it, especially those who think they're not getting any younger.

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1.... Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay 'them'

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.' And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love , whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER :
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Thanks for the heads up, Micheal. I always make it sure that I tell my family how much I love them. And will rephrase it sometimes, and ask them: "Who loves you, coo?" My daughter would then look me in the eyes and say, "You," Its a great feeling and we''l never know how long we'll fade away...

Guilt trips have to be one of leading causes of premature aging!

Wow! Great Post about Staying Young!
Did everyone notice that very little was said about "diet" or "exercise".
Most of the benefits listed was based on emotional, mental, and spiritual health.

I spent years working out mentally and physically. But the older I get the more I realize that the condition of our thoughts is the best age defying remedy yet.

The secret to staying young?.... laugh lots. Drink lots of water.....dont drink coffee ..cut down on the cigaretts (they prematurely age the skin apart from killing you) don't go to the gym (its boring!).... do other types of excercise such as martial arts (best type of cardio) and just have a good mental atitude.

I think there are two tips to staying young. One is to surround yourself with younger people because they will inspire you. Secondly I believe you are only as young as you feel. My friends tell me I don't look my age and I know that I don't act my age and at 61 that is a good thing!

Age has always been just a number to me that really doesn't mean anything. It's what you believe. You believe you're old, you're old. You don't, then you aren't. It can be as simple as that. I still do many of the things I did 20 years ago and it's because I believe I can still can. Others my age can't because they believe they're getting older or are too old to do those things because somewhere along the way society said you're too old.

Remember that you will spend much more time in the journey than at the destination.
A friend of mine like to remind, "Your ticket has been bought. It's best if you enjoy the ride".
There is a difference between getting older and becoming old...

...and there is only 1 alternative to getting older.

    Nice thread.

    Someone asked for practical tips.

    1) learn to breath correctly - most of use are shallow breathers which means we only use the top section of our lungs. Learn to take deep breaths from the belly.

Lung capacity decreases with age and is a major predictor of length and quallity of life ( unless of course you get hit by a bus).

    2) Laughter is great as is a positive outlook. If you must worry use a control technique like time boxing so that it does not take over your life.

    3) Eat more raw food - our bodies were not designed with cooking pots in mind. The fact that we can eat it does not mean that we should. So eat more veg - try making your own vegetable juices so that you get maximum goodness from the food you eat.

    4) Chew throughly - your stomach does not have teeth. The more you chew the more digestive enzymes are produced helping you digest food. The less you chew the less nutrients you get from your food.

    5) Chew slowly - different benefit. Chewing slowly allows time for your stomach to send the "stop eating I'm full message" to the brain - you'll eat less. It also allows you to taste and enjoy your food.

    6) Move and move and move. Get up and dance, invest in a rebounder move your body, swing those arms, practice tai chi ( I'm a teacher) . As well as making you feel better ( released endorphins) movement of the major muscle groups helps circulate the lymph fluid in your body. Blood is pumped around your body by a pump - the heart. Lymph fluid does not have a pump and is moved by tiny muscle contractions. Deep breathing from the abdomen using the major muscle group around the belly and chest and helps get the lymph fluid up to the subclavian vein and back into the blood stream from whence it came earlier.
    7) let anger and negative thoughts go - don't hang on to them - they are corrosive of both the mind and the body.
    8) practice gratitude. Appreciate the small things a glint of sun on a rose, a perfect cup of tea. Keep a journal notice and log the little things. Gradually you will see that there is more good than bad.
    9) Smile - its good for you, its good for the people who see, image how it would be if you walked into a room of smiling people.

Was that practical enough ?- oh some things to avoid
PS Forget the red wine. The compound in red wine is reversatol - it comes from the red grape skins - a better solution is to eat grapes.
PPS Avoid white food ... bread, pasta, milk, sugar etc...
PPSS Avoid everything that says low fat or sugar free what they do to food to get them to that state is little short of a chemical experiment gone wrong...

      Hey guys,

      I absolutely love this thread!

I always say that I'm younger than my age... your mind is very important when it comes to age. Body ages but our mind must stay young. All those suggestions are good, and I hope a lot of people read it and apply it since it can really have a long term effect on our lives.

    Hey Michael!

    5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

    The best advice ever.

    Live, Laugh, Love.

I really am excited about this side of the forum.

Most folks do not understand how much mindset contributes to longevity.

    Live the Dream!

THAT is so deep! Thanks for this post! I really enjoyed it.

On of my favourite saying about how to live life is:

      Sing like no-one is listening
      Dance like no-one is watching
Love like you have never been hurt
Live like it is your last day

No idea who said it though! Cheers

Nice nice article especially the closing note. This reminds me of "Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen" song written by Baz Luhrmann. The song's message is really nice and simple, but this one is related to this topic:

"Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not
understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded."

In my opinion the only way you can stay young for a long period of time is to be young at heart. Whether you like it or not, your body will age. The only choice you have to make is whether to deny it and age quicker or accept it and age gracefully.

Hi nice tips. Thanks. Just to add what I've learned being in a wellness industry for 8 yrs.
Water...so important as in research says we are composed of 75% water though it varies as we increase our age though..it help all the food we eat to transport to the cells that need it. it help to flush all the toxins out from our body. So you need to invest on your water that you drink. There are hundreds or thousands kind of bacteria in the normal wate we drink. So if it is not clean you might flood your cells inside your body with bacterias & turn it into sickness instead.

Vegetables & fruits, you need to investigate about the chemicals they sprayed to your vegies & fruits. Same thing it adds up to the toxins you put inside your body.

Air you breath...Be sure to go to aplac where the air is clean in todays technology there are solutions you can do inside your home so the air you breath will be filtered & make it clean.

Exercise...be sure it's not that strenous or else it will jus crush your body & give you injury. Walking is the best exercise.

Be sure to always communicae with GOD for faith can build confidence then it push you to take action & acting with God's guidance you will always succeed then you become happy and fulfilled & truly happiness can make you look as youthful as you can imagine.
