The Law of Consistency

The Law of consistency says that motivation gets you going , discipline keeps you growing. I am trying to apply this principle but it is really a struggle.

I know that I need to stay motivated everyday but there are times that I feel bad especially when things you want to happen is not possible and really get frustrated.

Discipline, I badly need this one. I know for a fact that I need to focus on one thing at a time, but often than not, I keep on jumping for one idea to another.

At some point, have you every experience it? How did you overcome this?

We human beings tend to focus more on negatives rather than positives. This makes it hard to stay motivated all the time.

I went through the same thing few years ago and I still do from time to time. One of the things that helped me a lot is to write down specific goals and read them every morning after I woke and and every nigh before I went to sleep. It helped me stay on track. Also, I started practicing meditation for 20 minutes a day. It helped me clear out my negative thoughts and helped improve my focus.

Like you said, you have to be consistent. Don't give up even if things don't go your way.

Do you set goals for yourself? For example I often find myself losing focus and ending up on various websites. To counter this I give myself a milestone to aim towards. For example, I have to complete a 500 word article before I can browse for ten minutes.

I can tell you what is working for me. I say "is" because it is a continuous process to overcome these things and improve yourself. You can always be and do better.

I found a thread that had 2 videos in it and it sparked someone in me.

    Here's that thread:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/mind-war...ess-video.html

After I watched those videos, I started to watch all of his videos (I think Season 3 & 4 is where he gets really good). Then I moved on to other videos, because of Youtube's sidebar of suggested videos. I found a few other personal development/self improvement people through youtube that I like. You should try to find some too (if you haven't already). I like Jim Rohn, Les Brown, ET and Brian Tracy.

    What you need to understand

You have to understand that up until now you've been a certain kind of person with particular beliefs and habits. Because of that person (the way you are and what you do), you are where you are now...undisciplined, unfocused and I'm guessing unsuccessful as far as your goals/desires.

If you want to achieve goals that you haven't achieved, you have to change the person you are. You have to change your mindset, beliefs and habits. To do this, I listen to audio, read or watch videos about self improvement almost everyday, but most importantly, I implement the things I learn.

    Jumping from thing to thing

If you find that you are jumping from thing to thing, it's probably because you don't really believe in whatever you have started. Maybe, you were into it in the beginning, but you're not anymore. There's something in the back of your mind that isn't 100% on board with it.

Maybe you can try to evaluate each project you've started and pick one to stick with until you make money. I'm just brainstorming, but you can ask yourself some things like:

    Do I like doing this?
Is this something that will work long term?
Would I want to do this long term?
Can I afford to do this right now? - How much time OR money do you need to invest to get started and see a profit?
Are many other people really making money doing this?
    Etc

Come up with a criteria that makes sense to you, and don't work on anything that doesn't meet it.

    Last thought
This whole thing really is a process or journey, so just keep learning about how to improve yourself and trying ideas until you find some things that work for you.

This has been difficult for me also. Once that initial excitement wears off it is tough to stay focused. One thing that has worked for me was to stagger goals or rewards over weeks. In place of having one long term goal, try to break it up into small goals. When you achieve these goals reward yourself. It helps make the big goal more manageable.

A guy that is a model of consistency is Ray Higdon. Every single day he does a blog and a video and emails his list. Consistency is not the easiest thing to get. Something that has helped me was this audio I heard and what it said is you can accomplish any goal you want and that was to practice self discipline. When I heard this I took it very seriously and I know whatever I want to achieve is on me. Its the habits I develop. If you have a big enough reason to do what you want to do then you will be consistent because you will want it that bad.

Its easier to develop a habit of doing something consistently by doing something small that will help you in whatever goal it is you want to reach.

If you want to start an email list, then you set aside part of your day to find out what you need to have a list. And do one of those things everyday. Easy stuff like: find prices for three a/r services, and once you find those move onto something else easy, like create an introduction email that everyone will get when they sign up.

Simple steps and then check them off on a written down list when you get them done.

Embrace the fact that you're only responsible for your actions and not the outcomes. Understand that without action you can't get your favored reaction. So, when you feel like slacking or skipping a day, remember that you're not getting any closer to your goal because you have not taken action.

You can only build discipline by being disciplined. So, decide upon a minimum amount of time that you must spend on your business and everyday no matter what, make sure you spend a minimum of that amount of time on your business. Your minimum amount of time can be 1 hour or 30 min but you have to make sure you stay committed to doing this.

After awhile it will become a habit and you will feel weird if you don't spend at least your minimum amount of time on your business.

By the way it is normal to have days when you don't feel like doing anything. I have those days and I'm sure everyone else does but you're still responsible for taking action on the days when you don't feel like it.

That is just one of the prices you have to pay if you want to be successful at whatever it is you do.
