What is success to you?

Success, a word both dreaded and sought after.

What is your definition of success? Is it a dream that you have achieved or pursuing, and that by reaching the goal you are successful? Or is the measure of how wealthy and how high your position is in your career?

I wonder how would you term "success" as.

    I think Success = Happiness.

If you can look yourself in the mirror and honestly say that you're happy with your job/career/business, happy with yourself, your family, and your purpose in life (and everything else that's important to you) ... Then you're successful.

I would define it the same way the dictionary does - the achievement of your desired outcome. You can complete everything you need to and still not be successful and that's because very few people actually know their desired outcome ahead of time, or they fail to realize how comfortably mediocre their desires were.

Take, for example, a single father who has to work two jobs. Would you call him a success? Well it's not up to you to say. Success is a personal statement - if his goal or desired outcome was to have a child and do everything he had to take care of him then guess what? He's a success. If his outcome was to have a child and give this child the best life he possible could have? Well that's not quite as easily said and that's where the distinction comes in.

I think a much more quantifiable measure of how you are progressing in life is a two part question: would your parents be proud to tell their parents about how their child is doing and, secondly, if you had kids living the life you are living now then would you be proud of how they were doing?

  • Success is achieving your goal.

If your goal is to earn $10,000 a day and you achieve that, you can call yourself successful.

  • Success to me means just how happy I am at any given moment. When I am not joyous I am not being successful.

Its amazing how we all define success in different ways. I define success as being happy with what I am doing, along with being there to make my family smile all the time and never have to worry about them stressing. My family means the world to me so to see them happy with things that I have done for them or around them, then I feel successful.

    To me success means happiness.
Imagine you are making lots of money and not enjoying life, it is not a success but a stressful procedure of making money.
Success is when you are happy, it doesnt matter if you have lots of money or less. As long as you are happy and enjoying life, you are successful....

Success is very difficult to measure without benchmarking yourself with others. So to make things simple. it is having achieved your dreams or goals that you desire for. No frills. But here's the rub. Achieving one goal always leads to desiring another. So success is kind of dynamic as long as you keep on pushing yourself upwards and beyond.

I just want the freedom to not have to worry about money (e.g. have twice as much as I currently need) so I can focus on my hobbies and passions.

To me, success is living a happy life, sufficient income to support my family, help poor people from whatever I have, follow my religion as closely as possible, take care of my parents as much as possible (even though I can never re-pay what they have done for me), take enough good deeds to my grave.

It's a lot of more simple stuffs, but this is it simply put.

I think Success is definitely related to how one feels, e.g if you are happy and content in a relationship then you have a successful relationship. Achieving your goals in life is also a form of success. Then come the big successes like financial or business successes. well that's my perception of what success means.

Success is simply a journey, not a destination. To be free of days of drudgery and able to do something that you love.
