How Do You Detach from Outcomes?

One key aspect to manifesting your dreams is detaching from outcomes.

I like meditating, slowing down my mind, and actions, and also enjoying my work/play, to detach from outcomes.

Each act inspires me to be present and to not worry about the outcome of my work.....The General Manager handles that

in theory: by doing what you do the best that you can and not expecting a reward.

in theory it sounds good, and it would be nice to follow that ideal. but, in reality, its near impossible, unless you choose to live in near isolation. Because other people interfere often with their own intent.

By realizing everything is already within and that the world is only your mirror/reflection. Meditation is a must for me .

Meditation and enjoyment. When I started working out it was all about results but I came to enjoy the process after a while and now it's just about fun and feeling good.

A good way to stay detached from outcomes that worked well for me was to "play life like a game".

When you "play" instead of struggle, even negative outcomes don't seem like setbacks. You get back on track faster and learn from the mistakes you make.

Just thinking of life as a game instead of taking things too seriously changes reality...

Here is a way to start. Realize you have the outcome already.

How do you detach from the outcome? You get there by realizing you are already there.

How do you get there in sales and marketing? By having competent training to know you have sales skills to close the sale. It helps much more if you have marketing in place to funnel leads to you. Knowing how and being able to maintain proper expectations: are they just in the consideration step of sales? Have you overcome objections yet? Have you established a trusted relationship first? < These are things one learns in How To – sales courses. By knowing that there are parts to a sales process then you can focus on where you are at and what is next to do instead of stressing about not having money. If you do these things well over time then the money will come. It always does. Money follows rules which when followed makes you rich.

People want to buy. Get in front of those people (done through marketing and prequalifying) and you can close sales.

By knowing that you have the ability to close sales it is easier to detach from the fear of wondering if you will close this sale. It is a delicate balance to intend to close every sale without getting caught up in having to have too. This is for the more advanced player.

Of course the above is the business version of this. Then there is the spiritual side of this. Achieved along similar lines of dealing with the ego. Let it go or let it be is a good start when found through meditation. Zen Buddhism is the Grand Poobah of this of course.

Remember: If something is bugging you it is because it is trying to tell you that you need to learn something. Learn what you need to learn so you can move on. If you can’t detach then you suffer. I mean get into it. Suffer a lot. Get what you need to so you can learn.

May you enjoy the game of life well.

Detaching from outcomes that happened, or detaching from outcomes that could happen? For me there is a big difference.

When I have an outcome that isn't to my liking, I go for a run. It's my form of meditation and usually by the time I'm done I've come to terms with it and have figured out my next move.

As for outcomes that may happen, I think it's good to know what they are, but dwelling on them only makes them more likely to happen in my opinion. It's kind of like the secret, but more so I just don't want to doubt myself. That can cause inaction and the only way to be successful is by being able to take action.

Detaching from outcomes means accepting the pain and discomfort of uncertainty.

To accept pain and discomfort of uncertainty have more stillness, quiet, appreciation and being open in your life. Let go, release and embrace your entire self.

  • I really like the concept of detaching one's self from outcomes. This is not as easy an act to pull off as it looks, but I suspect it can be done and be very beneficial at that.

When I detach from the smaller details and think in terms of a larger picture I lose sense of my immediate goals (the outcome). So when i think in terms of spiritual ascension I lose track of the meaning of writing an article, but I find myself writing at the peak of my ability since I am thinking in terms of something far greater than myself.

I don't know if that makes sense, some of you may not be spiritual (or believe in a spirit at all for that matter, hah!), but it's often actually difficult for me to think small (write a good article) and achieve small (finish writing that article).

I have to think in terms of how this projecting of my talents combines cumulatively to help my soul ascend to the next level of existence. A bit metaphysical/ existential here, but I hope I answered the question :p

How does one detach from outcomes?

To start with Attachment first [Attachment + Expectation = Disappointment] that’s the word on the street.

What does that really mean in practical terms: If I plant a healthy seed in my garden on healthy soil, [I don’t expect] it to grow, I KNOW its going to grow. It’s a given that the right amount of sunlight, and water will nourish that seed to fruition

Expectation is much different from KNOWING. Knowing is a sure thing, no questions.

We don’t go prodding and digging up our seed to see if its growing, nor do we ask it silly question like, are you going to grow, when are you going to grow, shouldn't you be growing already. This is [not] a form of Knowing. That’s an attachment of the outcome.

We leave the seed alone and do what we need to do, go along our business and attend to other things while the seed is doing its thing.

The second part to this Detachment process is the idea that we need to embrace the UNKNOWN, allow surprises to happen. Sometimes we want to know the outcome of everything. The idea we planted is using every resource available in the universe to bring you the fruits you desire. The HOW doesn't matter. The majority of the time if we think back with any idea that we planted and left it alone, it came back better than our bare mind can perceive. Let the universe perfect it for you. Trust play a very important part in this detachment process, but thats a another topic by itself.

This goes for the seed of any idea that is planted in your universe. The the only science to Detachment is TRUSTING.

  • Well I was a bit stressed bing hard-bioled to make money letting the bills run me instead of enjoying the process. I feel a bit better about the ordeal having to read posts like these. I'm making some money, but I want to make much much more. Perhaps I need to slow down as well.

It's in who you become along the journey. I think Jim Rohn said it well " set a goal that will make something of yourself to achieve it".

I found that simple mindset really helped me in detaching myself from the outcomes of the goals I would set. I know that as long as I look back and I can tell myself that there is nothing more I could of done.. no matter what the outcome is I am happy with myself.

    Great Post!

I am not sure how to reconcile staying focused on a goal and being detached at the same time. That's a tough one.

I like to keep it simple, The best and most dependable way I detach myself from outcomes is with a simple four word mantra. I simply repeat it until the feeling of attachment .. detaches.

"It's Not About Me". (It silences the Ego).

        Works magically every time.

... mainfesting your dreams. That is a common notion to have, not befiting of someone meditating.
You then start with... "I like".
You follow it with "I like meditating." "I" , "like". There are fewer things less distant than this to meditation.
One is already 'too far in' when stating "detaching from outcomes".

You are divided between "desiring to manifest" and "detaching". You cannot at the same time be drinking and not drinking water.

It's why meditation needs a bedrock of intuitive understanding. There will be nothing to inherit from. There is no I, no you, there is just a perciever, and this perciever is already detached, can, in fact, never truly be attached to something.
Search for it, it is allways reflected inwards, even when pretending altruism.
