Lying, Ethics... Where do you draw the line?

People tend to chase money and ignore virtues.

In an attempt to make money: They lie, they hoard, they steal, they violate and they may even kill (mentally/physically).

The question is, are you aware of where you draw the line?

I don't know, but as Seth Godin expressed aptly in his book title "All Marketers Are Liars".. As marketers, we do have a tendency to move towards "lying", because it rakes in more profit.

But you really can't say it's a "white lie" either - it's just shameless self-justification to save your own skin.

Let's say you were in a deep fix with debt, but you can definitely live on with a decent income. You are presented with an opportunity to lie, and get 5 million dollars.

Would you do it?

  • It's pretty simple for me, James. I simply follow the golden social rule which holds true and quite accurate for me. I tend to: "Do unto others as I would have them do unto me."

    Works like a charm.

Some people say that to succeed in any business today, one can only do so by telling lies. And so they keep lying and lying and they do not stop at it.

But a good business would never lie.

This is because a good business would want to build their reputation by building trust of people. So, if you really do have a good business, why lie?

    All the best. Regards.
