Motivation: Sources - Internal/External?

Hello Everyone!

I have been thinking about it...I'm struggling to dedicate my time to long term projects. Long term projects require (for me) a clear outcome and sometimes I lose motivation in the middle of the process. Motivation, in my opinion, must come from inside...but when you see yourself with a lack of motivation...what do you do? Books? Movies? Religion? Meditation? I would be glad to get any tip about it! Thanks in advance!

Interesting. If i may ask, What was the impact of the use of this philosophy in your life? Which changes you realized? I tried somethings but i kind of felt a bit dependent of such literature...always looking for the new big thing..or method....that would sky high my motivation and eagerness, lets say...but no results in the long term...

There are 3 things that keep me motivated.

    1) Very good online buddy who is working on another long-term project and is going through loads of similar problems (forums don't work - they just suck out your energy).
    2) Podcasts - I am absolutely sure that I wouldn't be where I am if there wasn't this product available.
    3) My family - have got wife and 4 daughters.. always remind you that your aim is to succeed.

    Podcasts I listen to:
    • Internet business mastery
    • The smart passive income
    • seo101
    • Inside social media: big brand strategies for small business budgets
    • Entrepreneurial through leaders (by Stanford university)
    • The solopreneur hour
    • This is your life
    • few more...
    • and... Strip club radio (my favourite one as those guys are plain honest talking about life).

and your biggest enemy is your creativity as it will lead you to jump over to 100% new and completely different projects.. although probably it is impossible to avoid that :/ ... I have lost 2x6months (= 1 year) like that and of course your main project will suffer because of that as well.

In 2 words >> your surrounding is what gets you demotivated (improve what you can in changing it).

    Wishing you all the best,
    Helmuts

p.s. + you have to always remember that in average an online project pulls off only after 4-5 years of work.

      .
Thank you for reminding me off how valuable podcast can be. I started getting into them a while back but I sort of dropped that. Your mention of them will help me get back on track. My surroundings could be more motivating for sure!

        Wise words, Nonin!
I have never been into podcasts and probably to have a buddy in similar situation is a way to motivate each other to keep working hard! I will definitely try it! I will also work in my environment...maybe dedicate myself to another activity (hobby, to release stress when needed).
Clearly we can't lose patience and focus to not waste all the work that has been done (and start from zero, or almost zero...few months later)!...

I visualize myself enjoying the pleasures that involve completing said project.

Constantly visualize the desired outcome and feel what it would feel like to reach your goal. A strong desire is a must.

I find that a balance of desire and non-attachment works wonders. Focus on cultivating the desire through visualization exercises, but once your work is finished for the day/week/etc, completely let it go and relax, read, meditate, listen to music, or enjoy yourself in any way possible.

Try to avoid over-analyzing your work, because that will only leave room for doubt. Visualize your outcome, and the steps to get there will come naturally. If you find that what you are doing requires a lot of mental strain and conscious thought, then stop working because you are likely wasting your time and energy. Repeat the visualization exercises until you feel motivated from within again, then get to work and enjoy the process.
