I find myself at a fork in the road. I need some advice on what to do here...

See... everyone talks about starting small, build a squeeze page, e-mail... etc..

But any highly successful business person in the world will tell you to "think big."

I have to be honest, I'm not passionate about building small webpages, driving traffic, and e-mailing them. I'm a community guy. I want to start a rather large membership in a huge online niche.

My plan is to offer everything the competition has, but for less :-) .

I have no problem taking a year or two and investing a couple ten's of thousands of dollars into it if need be.

What do I do guys?
Start small?
Start big?

Do what YOU are passionate about. Bugger what others are thinking or doing. If you're going to invest time and money into something, it should be your passion or you're guaranteed to fail.

    Very true.

When you do what you want to do, it makes it so much more meaningful and rewarding for when you complete what you made plans to execute.

There are tons of avenues to generate money, when you get creative and do it your own way, you avoid the saturation. So find what rings your bells louder. ;-)

Please don't take this as a bad thing.....but I think you suffer from "Meant For More" Syndrome. I too was once a carrier of this genetic flaw. Basically you feel like you should be in New York building skyscrapers with Donald Trump, but the reality is that you still haven't washed the dishes from a week ago. Maybe at work you are just average. Inside you have the potential to be the best in the company, but you remain average because they simply don't pay you enough. Am I close?

I have a friend like this and I didn't realize it was an issue until I saw it in someone else. Just jump in and get something started. Big or small...it doesn't matter. Why take a year or two to build something that can be built in a month or two? If you think you're meant for more, show me results in 2 months. It takes most IMers longer than that to get their first sale. That is my challenge to you. I wish you the best of luck.

If you have the time and money to invest in a big project, and that's what you want to do, then do that.

However I would say that the advantage of starting small is that you can gain a lot of experience in the field and learn more than you ever would taking a marketing course for very little money.

Do you already have experience in the niche you're looking to get into?

        Starting small is good advice.

Thinking big is also good advice.

You have a plan, you are going to provide something different to all the rest out there, so you have no competition. Just get started doing your own thing in your own way and build on it. Keep going and it will grow to the big thing you were thinking about at the beginning.

Ask yourself about what you could start to do which would bring the greatest change in your life, and then get into the routine of getting closer to that.

Usually when we get stuck in a rut we've lost sight on what creates the greatest difference in our lives. Find that one thing, I hope that it works out bud

My advice is to think big like you say BUT you need to build the house brick by brick.

All those small bricks make up a house.

So you ALWAYS have to start small.

    At least in my experience.

Know where you are going and start building. If you just want a squeeze page with an offer or two (I know this isn't what you want) that is fine, fairly easy to set up.

If you want an intricate membership site with a community, that's great too.

The real question here I think is:

"Who will build the house?" - so to speak.

Again, this is simple but just remember you will have to pay people to build the house if you outsource.

My advice, start small - get traffic FIRST for the offer to BUILD the community and then expand once you have got enough interest.

    Wishing you the best,

    Chris Jones

Sounds to me like you have a vision. Vision's important, but so is action. Seems like you're headed in the right direction. It's ok to think big and use caution at the same time. We have two different sides of our brain for a reason. One is for logic and the other is for emotion. It's best when they're both in equilibrium.

Don't quite agree with your plan. Your offering the same value for less. I find that offering more value i.e. focusing on quality is a better strategy.

Thanks everybody! @Click Dale, You are absolutely right lol.

I am going to change my plans to something smaller. Make my first dollar than see where it goes... All the while I can be setting money aside for when I hit that "sweet spot" of profiting so I can scale it.

I really can't thank you all enough. Your answers move me in positive directions. I am humbled.
