A Particularly Curious Way To Incentivise

I was watching an interview with Mark Cuban. He caused me to look at incentives in a completely different way. This new way turned traditional motivational techniques on their heads. I thought it was cool enough to share with you and maybe get some of your views on how this thing could be used to change our way of self-motivation.

So he says to the interviewer: (paraphrased) "When I am in sales and want to motivate my sales team, I give every one of them the car of their choice. Then I tell them, as long as you make your monthly goal in sales, you get to keep the car. The month you don't reach or surpass your goal is the day you loose the car."

I thought, . . . there has got to be a way to use this kind of paradigm shift to motivate ourselves as well in the businesses of our choice (aside from the Gary Halbert "gun to the head" method of producing). Can anyone out there shuffle this around to help with this from a motivational point of view?
