Do you believe you have a Life Purpose?

Do you believe you have a Life Purpose? I confess that I have not always believed it myself, but somewhere along the road, I changed my mind; and I do indeed believe that life holds a unique purpose for us all.

The problem, for most people, is actually finding or discovering their purpose. But once you have done that, you can concentrate on translating it into reality - something you simply cannot do before you understand what I like to call your 'personal mission'.

When you study really successful people, it turns out that quite a few managed to discover their life purpose at quite a young age. This undoubtedly gave them an edge over others. They were able to get started in - not just any job - but the right job. Sure, they may have started as the Tea-Boy, but they were the Tea-Boy in the right industry - there's a big difference there.

Others bumbled through life, doing their best, pursuing a career, living their lives but found out that climbing the corporate ladder did not ultimately bring about the satisfaction they thought it might. They were in the wrong industry, of course, but that was because they had not been able to identify their life-purpose; and so were unable to pursue it.

Not everyone will agree - naturally - that life holds a purpose for anyone and everyone. I accept that there are dimensions to the whole discussion that constrain this kind of thinking for many. But I also believe that this subject is absolutely fundamental to achieving success of any kind.

I agree with you Will. I believe I have a purpose in life. In fact, I believe I'm becoming more and more aware of the purpose I am assigning to my life everyday. I also believe that I am fortunate enough to have caught a glimpse of this purpose at a young age (I'm 26 going on 27 in a couple months.)

Exec, I agree that the fundamental purpose of life is to live it, however, I disagree with the idea of not having control over ones life path. I believe the idea that "there is no control over life's path" is what prevents people from becoming aware of their life's purpose. Or maybe even prevents people from assigning a purpose to their life.

Since no one fully controls 100% of everything that happens to them, it seems clear to me that the purpose of life is simply to experience. The content of that experience is a combination of our choices, the choices of others, and the swirling tangles of unfolding experiences that enter our lives that are neither our choice nor those of others.

Though that sounds a little clinical to me that is the beauty of the experience of life - it is a combination of many experiences that are of our own making and those that aren't.

Life is an experience of actions and reactions and the real purpose - the real joy that motivates us to want more of it - is the opportunity to interact with the results.

Everyone is here for a purpose. I will not go in to it here otherwise I will be here all night.

I knew my purpose when I was 8 years, but did not begin to execute it until I was in my early 20's when I was equipped to do it.

It is not set in stone though. Every life has multiple possibilities.

I can say that 99.99% get stuck in what I call the "human system" and never realise why they are here, and therefore never realise happiness.

If you are doing what you are here to do you will be happy. If you are not happy you have not found it yet.

This is a great discussion! Too many people go through life without ever considering what their purpose in life is. As a Christian, I believe that my purpose is to know God and to make Him known, to be the best husband and father I can be, to serve others and treat people the way I would like to be treated, and to make sure all other goals and objectives are in line with these. Am I always successful? No, but I know my direction and that's vitally important. Thanks for reminding me to get back on track and live "on purpose", by the way!

I agree a great thread here! I think that a life purpose is there for some of us, I think for others it is something that evolves as they evolve through life. I for one have always been a writer, and I have fought against it because I thought I was supposed to be something else. It's funny how life will keep nudging you toward your true life's purpose until you eventually get it. I'm just glad I finally took the hint.

Most people fail to follow their inner guidance. Instead they always follow the expectations of family, friends and society.

If you follow your passions and inner guidance you will always succeed and be happy.

Agree with you that we all have a life purpose. I have done and learned things which I never thought is significant to my life have turned out to be beneficial to me now. It is as if there was a subconscious plan. Dan Millman 's The life you were born to live confirms that we all have a life purpose and he explained how we can overcome mountains to reach this ultimate life purpose.

    Hi Will,

I agree with you, we are here for a reason.

The problem is of course one of determination.

In Jack Canfield's book "The Success Principles" there is an interesting exercise to discover your life's purpose and I "settled on":
My purpose is to use my creativity and enthusiasm to teach others to do what they love, love what they do and to make a difference.

The other point to note is your purpose isn't necessarily set in stone, as we progress through life, experience gives us new expectations, viewpoints and vantage points and just when you think you've nailed your purpose - it might just change.

Doing what you love to do is a key denominator though, without doing that, life has become just one damned day after another for far too many people.

    All the best,
    Tom

I think having a purpose and direction in our lives is essential for us mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Our mental and emotional state also play a very large role in our physical state, and vice versa.

Without a purpose in our life we can end up going through life like Robots, doing the same thing day in and day out, without any real positive emotion or contribution to something that is greater than you.

A purpose in our life helps give us direction in our lives, and helps us create a path in our lives to make a positive impact on others and the rest of society. It gives us a reason to wake up in the morning, get out of bed, and have a great day.

Throughout my life I have always enjoyed helping others, in different ways, shapes and forms. My purpose and passion is empowering others to breakthrough the chains that have held them back in the past, and teach them how to live the life of there dreams. I am also very passionate about teaching people how to obtain true health, through a healthy lifestyle, exercise, and optimal supplementation. I believe our health is something that is priceless, and without our health our lives can be damaged both physically and emotionally. We all have the ability to live a life of abundance, and bliss, and we deserve to be able to enjoy all that the world has to offer.

My opinion is that we all have a purpose, or a goal, in life. Sometimes what happens is that people don't know themselves or their possibilities. Action is a key word in finding that purpose and sometimes also to be surrounded by the right people; it's great to have friends that support your purpose and can give good, impartial advice.

I believe we all have a purpose, yet we allow ourselves to be blinded by the things that now. By the time we take a step back and look at her life's authority to lay. We retired and would waste their lives. So let's encourage your children to follow the passion and hope in each and every one of you saved up enough money to be able to support them.

Yes, I agree that my life has a purpose. And it is one that I continually define for myself, choose, and believe in.

That's how purpose is in my opinion. Not everyone has spiritual beliefs about purpose. Does that mean their life has none? Of course not. It means that they create their own purpose.

I do happen to believe that we all have a life purpose.

But , if you don't, that's okay too.
Here's an idea for those who Do Not believe in a life purpose.
Take time to dig deep and evaluate your life. Go through the same proccesses and same lists of questions that you have seen for people trying to discover their own life purpose. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

When you are done, ask your self these important questions:

Who says I can't invent my own life purpose, if I wasn't born with one?

Wouldn't my life be more focused and meaningful with a purpose, even if I have to decide it for myself?

    Never Stop Exploring Life!

Yes I believe in lifes purpose, if you think about it every small action that you do could impact your life in a huge way, for example if you were never a tea boy in the first place than your life, friends, expriences will all be different, and if you were different than you would not be where you are today, kind of scary and exciting if you ask me.

I've read a couple of Autobiographies lately Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein and other business books most of which are biographical.

What I found to be interesting is that, none of them had a sole purpose in life..
Each one of them discovered their passion, purpose, limitations, awareness as they grew with experience and age .. they also diverted from one purpose to another a great deal.

But there is a difference between our 'purpose' in life and about our 'Passion' in life.

Simply put 'Passion' is something that you love doing.. you can spend three straight days at it and not feel tired.. you'll do it without any pay .. infact you might as well pay someone to do the job.. you're so crazy about it.

Most successful people from Tiger woods, maradona, bill gates, jobs, edison, buffet practically everyone found their passion almost in their childhood. If you have discovered your gift, the special talent, your strengths in life - that's your passion. But your goals, purposes and motivations will keep changing as you take on new challenges in life.

My personal belief is, we as humans are designed to have only one purpose - to express our full potential with our gifts. Everything else revolves around it.
