Have you ever tried to ban yourself form certain websites?

I guess, most of you guys agree that websites like Facebook and other distractions can screw up your productivity and discipline badly.

Have you ever tried to ban yourself form certain websites using 'hosts' system32 windows files? Just like here: HOW TO BLOCK A WEBSITE FREELY WITHOUT A SOFTWARE | Computer Tips and Tricks

Or do you have other methods?

I'm actually able to get control over myself not to visit certain websites until 00.00am, by just giving a promise to myself haha

Nope My self control game is tight, methinks lol.

Netnanny or other software products helps, but usually you need a stronger reason why you are working your online business, to easily weed out distractions.

Here in Thailand I am seeing 95 and sunny again on the weather forecast. Living the happy internet lifestyle is enough for me to stay on course

Personally I don't need these tools.

Just promise to yourself that you will focus on a specific task and not get distracted.

Then simply keep your word if you can't keep a promise to yourself. Well i don't think that this business is for you...

    Cheers,

By telling yourself to not do something you are assuming a mind state that says, "I want to do it but can't." Sooner or later, your mind will resist internally and you will cave.

To avoid this internal resistance, don't focus on what not to do. Focus on doing something else and make that a more dominant and relevant part of your life. Soon you just won't have time to think about things like, well, what you said.

P.S. focusing on something else results a more positive mind state that says, "I can do it but don't want to." That's the way you want to be thinking.

Wow, some serious people here hehe

As I said, I can get the work done lately, found a good way to keep myself focused.

I was just wondering if anyone was experiencing the same problems and what kind of methods did you use in order to get rid of it

Don't try to get rid of the problem. Focus instead on replacing the problem with more productive activities.

For example, if you spend 3 hours a day surfing the web. Try adding an hour or two of some other, more productive activity, whatever that might be for you. For me it would be reading, writing, maintaining my blog, researching to better serve my clients, learning new recipes, working out, meditating. For you it might be something else.

The point is, once you add enough positivity to your life, your life just won't have time for your existing problems. They will slowly fade away.

Lately, I havent needed it because I formed an imprint for the most part.
I am not perfect but I am ions better.

The tool served its' purpose and is always on standby just in case I ever need it again

Yeah, I used to waste hours on social news sites like reddit. I tried to use software to block the sites but of course I could disable the software at any time. I finally stopped wasting time on those sites when I did some more personal development. We are like a rubber band, we may use willpower to stop doing something then when our guard is down we snap back into who we really are. The first step is to change who we are, to change how we see ourselves and identify with something better.
