    fail forward fast

It's not original, but pretty much sums it up: Get through as much failure as possible, as soon as possible so you can learn and reap rewards!

Hey! That's what I was going to say.

I would also add speed of implementation and persistence.

The trifecta of success with IM.

    Passion.

If you are not passionate, or at least believe in what you are offering, you will not succeed - at least in the long-term.

Passion is another Vital Attribute, I agree. Passion leads to Excitement
If you don't have passion you will get bored fast.

Passion has kept me doing what I do for 33 years, even while raising three sons alone - and it is passion that will keep me doing the same things until my time on Earth is complete.

If you have passion for what you do you will always succeed - and that has been my experience.

If you are not passionate about your IM niche then drop it now and fine one you are passionate about - preferably something you already do.

Actually it is passion to help that has enabled me to contribute 261 posts here in the one week I have been a member

IMHO, Passion is overrated. Put enough money in front of me and I can get 'passionate' about just about anything.

I say discipline because the most disciplined soldier wins every battle. Including the internet marketing battle.

You cannot buy passion - it is part of your Soul and Spirit.

i agree with Clyde Dennis. I think discipline is the most important and the primary attribute to have. If you are disciplined then you can bring the other attributes into play ie it enables you to be more focused, think positively, communicate constructively, take consistent action etc.

Another useful attribute or rather attitude is that of Stoicism - initially discussed as part of existential philosophy. Helps you make the best of every situation/difficulty etc.

Learn from others mistakes, everybody loses in this game, but concentrate on the long run and not the short sprint because you will run out of breath and money. Spread your winnings around.

Adding value in every action you take....Whether it is helping new users with the fundamentals or delivering solid content in your e-mails. It's all about adding value first. Everything else is secondary!

    Action.

That and be a clever guy.

90% of the guys i know who make fortunes are simply clever and did act. They don't know whats a html code or to write a sales page...but they were clever providing what people want.

So damn simple. And we keep adding complexity to it.

All solid attributes and traits of success for almost anyone in just about any circumstances and situations that have been previously mentioned.

      I would like to add..............................empathy.

Clearly communicating to your prospective customers that you do understand and feel, albeit intuitively, their needs, concerns and desires in all forms of communication.

By expressing a genuine and sincere nature, I believe you can relate to your customers on a deeper level that can build a solid foundation of trust and credibility that can result in much stronger relationships IMO.

*Determintation - having that drive to succeed and doing whatever it takes to acheive your goal...never giving up even if you fail or something is too hard, you keep on trying until you achieve what you set out to do.

*believing in youself and your abilities, most importantly believing you can do it.

Maturity. This is achieved by the ability to grow and learn from your mistakes.

There are so many landmines in IM - whether it be outdated info, misguidance or just plain ignorance on the user's part. It doesn't even matter whose "fault" it is. You've overspent, you're exhausted and you're not getting anywhere - are you going to CRY about it or are you going to LEARN from it?

And then (this is the part that nobody talks about), once you're making money, how will you KEEP it? Are you mature enough to handle money? Sure it's tempting to go on vacation once a month and spend tons of money on fancy cars and fancy electronic toys you don't need. But who's more likely to be rich and stay rich - the guy who spends money on every gadget under the sun, or the guy who, while lives comfortably, keeps a good head on his shoulders while he makes a quiet fortune?

Be wise, learn from the times you're not wise, and you will prosper.

I'm going to say 'Patience' is the most important. I've discovered over the last 18 months that being successful at this business is a lot like being a farmer.

You plant a site, then you have to tend it by building links/generating content...and sometime in the future you'll be able to reap a good harvest.

Not the best analogy as it seems that you never know when the harvest will happen...but it's close.

I guess having Faith in what you are doing would be the second most important. It's hard for me at time as I'm working through the patience aspect of the business to not get frustrated.

Perseverance. Too many people gave up way too early and as such they failed to taste any success. So I think perseverance is an important attribute for an internet marketer.

    Cheers,
