Don't Listen To Them
Maybe out of fear. Maybe out of jealousy. Whatever the reason, don't let these people get to you—every successful Entrepreneur has experienced it to some extent or another.
It's all part of the process of becoming successful. In fact if you don't have any “haters/discouragers” you're probably doing something wrong. ;-)
If anything, use these people's negative opinions as motivation to keep going and prove them wrong. If it wasn't for people telling me that I couldn't do this and that I probably wouldn't have evolved into an “independent thinker” and something of a leader. I should thank all the people that tried to discourage me.
Here are some of my favourite examples of people succeeding in spite of what other people think:
1. "We don't like their sound, and guitar music is on the way out."—Decca Recording Co. rejecting the Beatles, 1962 2. In 1998 Google founders Sergery Brin and Larry Page approached Yahoo! and suggested a merger. Yahoo! could have snapped up the company for a handful of stock, but instead they suggested that the young Googlers keep working on their little school project and come back when they had grown up. Within 5 years Google had an estimated market capitalization of $20 billion 3. "There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home."—Ken Olson, president, chairman and founder of Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC), maker of big business mainframe computers, arguing against the PC in 1977. |
