How Do You Find Peace?

Guys and Gals,

It seems like many people fill their world with "things to do" and feel overwhelmed by stress....

What do you do when you find your life overwhelming, stressful or chaotic?

Play with animals, go to a park, or meditate.

In short, anything that doesn't involve other human beings, since they are almost always the source of frustration or stress.

      Dain Supero,

      I'm an animal lover myself...

It is amazing when you look at how pets positively impact their owner's health...

      I've always had pets....

Mostly dogs.... and a rat named Belinda who thought she was a lap dog...

I'm also a strong believer in prayer and meditation...

I've gone thorough a couple very rough times when prayer and meditation were the only things that helped.

      Take Care,

I used to be trapped in stress and unhappiness and roller coaster in my business. Then I learned to live mindfully, now I am joyful and peaceful and more successful than I ever imagined. I highly encourage that you look into this!

      MrTwoFister,

You bring up an excellent point.....

Many people live life on "auto-pilot." The unfortunate thing is in this "mode" we fall into others' plans for us.....

By living "mindfully" we are aware of our lives..... and the choices we are making each moment.

      juggernaught,

      I agree 100%...

When I look back at my life, I have always been the happiest when I was surrounded by people I loved.....

      I know.... It is cliché...

But, having money doesn't bring you happiness...

It is relationships that make one truly happy.

i cannot deal with stress anymore ..there are problems i can deal with ..but stress caused for any length of time by other people..no..

relationships matter but if the people around you seem to want to cause you stress when you are trying to stay calm and figure stuff out ..

the best thing to do is eliminate as much stress as possible ..it is worse for your health than nearly anything else you can to to..have lots of different stresses .

i have several issues that are very annoying right now but i try to keep them from causing stress .

even though every time i talk to my brother he points out that he is concerned that the money i have will run out in 5-6 months ...

I find peace by going outside, sitting in a quite area and speaking to my lord and savior, when I am finished speaking to him everything that looked impossible suddenly looks like easy breezy.

You asked me what I do so here it is: Trust God.

He always works out my problems and takes away my anxiety and fear.

When I feel stressed and overwhelmed at work, I usually go on leave and while at home, be hands on with my kids. Bathe them, take them to school, feed them, and play with them. I try to make the most of time because they will only be kids once and I don't want to see that slip away from me without experiencing the joy of spending time with them.

I also devote more time doing the thing I love which is working on my blog. What can I say? It doesn't feel like work when you enjoy what you do.

      slingingshot15,

No need to apologize for sharing your spiritual beliefs....

I am a follower of Christ as well....

No matter what your spiritual beliefs are, I personally find it difficult to look around at how things "work together"..... and not believe their is a higher power.

Find the source of my stress and either deal with it or eliminate it. Though for me, I get more stress when I know what is causing the problem but there is no way to work on the problem or make it go away. For those times that I know what is causing my stress but can't deal with it, then I will simply write down in a journal all the things I would do if I could to deal with the problem. And, that usually helps alleviate my stressful feelings.

Anything that makes me laugh brings me peace, in that it relieves stress. Same goes for physical exertion. Having a dog seems to take care of both. Dogs are so sweet and loyal, but also so ridiculous. I mean they just do the funniest things. Mine has me laughing every day, either with humor or just joy. The unconditional love goes straight past any amount of stress. And having to walk her every day, rain or shine, also is great for my endorphins and other benefits of exercise. Though she adds a little stress in some ways (someone to watch her when I travel for work, cleaning up after her sometimes, etc.) it is well worth it on balance.

Meditation and the conscious act of releasing.

I do something similar to the Sedona method when i realize I've been bogged down with certain emotions surrounding a given topic.

Regardless of what the "thing" is that's on my mind I consciously make myself aware of the issue, feel it for what it is, let the emotions flood in that are bothering me then mentally set those emotions aside just like i might remove a piece of clothing and set it on a nearby open table.

For the larger issues I've done this with the emotions that get released and that are "let go" tend to feel like huge parasite; an energy sucker that was needlessly there eating at me.

It's kind of crazy how much of an effect this can have on you. I've spoken to quite a few people about this and they tend to think that the emotions are just part of the problems they face.

It can be odd to consider, but to think of emotions as our reaction to problems and challenges rather than part of the problem itself can be a world of difference

I was only able to find peace in progress as paradoxical as it sounds.

The more progress I see in my life in various areas of it the more I am able to sit back and say - "it's been a beautiful ride so far and I am not wasting time."

I am not able to sit down and feel peaceful. I suppose at times I can but only if I know I am progressing somewhere somehow.

Obviously at the end of the day it is all a "silly game with serious rule" but why not play it well. This for me does the trick.

When there is no progress, well let's say that it's not a good time for me haha

    Ah... dealing with stress.

My cousin and I take our dogs to the park for evening walks! Gives us all exercise and it's always full of laughs (laughing is the best stress reliever).

Christians can meditate too, it's just a term for clearing the mental clutter in your mind.

I like to write down everything that's in my mind... then reframe them into positive lessons. It's vital to really write everything down... It gives this unspeakable release of tension.

I personally do yoga and meditation, and it's been very helpful in releasing all of that tension!

      Imogen,

      Very true.... Christians can meditate....

For me, meditation takes many forms....

I can meditate and listen for God's voice...

I can meditate to lower my stress levels...

I can meditate to envision what I want in the future....

I can mediate and be in a state of gratitude for what God has given me...

      The list is endless.... :-)

Unfortunately, when some Christians hear the word "meditate," they think of it in a negative way...

When feel overwhelmed I go back to the basics of what is important in my life. Both personal and business.

This means that I take a bit of a "distance" to look at myself, how I spend my days and what I have on my plate. From there I take a look at what is really important and what I want to prioritize.

I delegate or dump the rest and feel way better and more in control right away.
