What are the Biggest Life lessons you learnt the Hard way..

If you're at the entrepreneurial game for sometime .. I'm sure life has hit you hard more than once..

We all want to pass on our experiences to help others avert avoidable mistakes in life.. what better way than to help thousands of people on Warriorforum stuck in life... and future readers to learn directly from people who've been there done that.

Here's Mine: I've been broke, homeless, drowned in debts for as long as three years straight.. barely surviving.. and living each day with insurmountable mental pressure and complete loss of faith.. and the funny thing is it was after I had started making serious money. It was a complete mismanagement of my life & finances on my part.. was quite a character building period for me. Learnt more during those 3 years than my entire academic and business life..

Lessons learnt:

1. Take calculative financial risks (Don't be over optimistic)
2. Be adamant about saving for the rainy day (Coz they are inevitable)
3. Invest in compound interest plans (This rili helps in long term)
4. Get partners to share risk & rewards (don't try to do a big project all by yourself)
5. Investigate as much as possible before you invest (Don't rush into a project or idea impulsively)
6. Be optimistic & realistic at the same time (Being realistic can save you a lot of heartaches..)
7. Avoid investing your own money as much as possible
8. No gold rush stays for ever (don't make future plans based on current income)
9. Build & nurture relationships (the best investment you'll ever make for life & business)
10. Focus on building a portfolio of projects rather than just making money (Your bio is way more valuable than your bank balance)

I hope my experience helps as many entrepreneurs as this thread can reach out to..

Share your life lessons for the benefit of thousands of entrepreneurs on this forum..

    To LISTEN. Truly listen.

To "hear" with all the senses.

This one continues to be a life's work.

    biggest,

do not help people who are capable but unwilling to do it for themselves .
stop waiting to be saved or trying to save others.

now when it come to parents children and spouses ..that is very touchy

give from where you are abundant or are working ..not from where you are lacking

there are 7 billion people on this world you can have a semi personal relationship with about 150 at most.. and a rewarding relationship with a few dozen ..and a really close relationship with a handful..chose those who bring value to you and you to them

    thank you ,

the other from taking care of my elderly parents the last 3 years untill my father passed a month ago and my mother is now in a nursing home .

retirement on a fixed income is a broken way to live ..

find your way to always be productive and provide value to those who value what you do.

do this until you can not work anymore ..get out of debt ..and live a lifestyle where most of your daily needs are provided by local sources .

food is more valuable than gold if you know how to grow ,store preserve and prepare .

being cheap can turn out to be real expensive ..factore in all the costs of something not just the purchase price .

I learned about providing quality the hard way. Being one of the early Internet marketers, it is easy to think that everything can be done automatically. I treated the Internet to be some magical tool that can generate money for me. But I was wrong. Real money is in relationships. You should constantly be active in your community and respond to the needs of your market if you want to make real and consistent money.

    Nice list.

    I would like to add.

Don't be afraid to fail and beware of the procrastination habit.

    Cheers,

Good list. I would add get a skill you can always use to make money. In regards to Internet marketing a valuable skill might be how to drive website traffic with Facebook ads. Another skill might be understanding how to create virtual freedom through outsourcing. I think most people fail at Internet marketing because they just do not have 1 or 2 useful skills they have mastered.

Don't try to be the jack of all trades.

When I just got started online I tried to do SEO, social media marketing, affiliate marketing, CPA marketing all at the same time. It was a big waste of time besides learning the importance of mastering one business model at a time.

This is very important... most successful people focus on a few things not the many. But we all are tempted to do too many projects at once - coz it gives us a sense of security.

I learnt this the hard way..

Happiness is not based on external status, it is an internal state.

Remember what your mother taught you, it came from the most sacred place of love that exists.

If you were incredible at everything you did, your life would be monotonously mundane. The people around you wouldn’t be able to relate, as they are likely flawed. Your isolation from experience in a way isolates you from the rest of society. The prospect of failure makes reaching the finish line so much more rewarding; you need to learn to embrace criticism. You need to experience growth.

The source of most of your frustrations and anxiety are the result of living in the future, or the past.

Apologies Are For You, Not Them!!! This isn’t as selfish as it sounds; it’s just that important to recognize your wrongdoing to promote personal growth. Take responsibility for your actions and doing the right thing. Forgiveness is not the purpose of an apology, although it’s always welcomed. Additionally, there will be times in life when an apology will not suffice. That’s the other person’s choice, not yours. More importantly, you need to forgive yourself. Accept that you’ve done what you can to right your wrong and move forward with your life.

Your beliefs are a filter for your reality.

If you don’t like what someone else says to you, you can walk away. But if you don’t like what you say to yourself, you can’t walk away. Therefore, if you’re going to be with yourself all the time, you might as well be nice to yourself.
Money can’t make me happy, but self-sufficiency gives me the freedom to share myself creatively, without worrying about how I’m going to pay the bills.

I used to be the queen of passive-aggressive deviance, but my parents were right about pretty much everything: the people from whom I should have stayed away, the things that really matter in life, the things I would regret and potential consequences.

Some of life's hardest lessons to learn are:

Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask yourself if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.

Don't look for anyone else to give you permission to be yourself. You don’t need anyone’s validation to be happy or to live a good life.

Every day is a day you can be a better person than you were yesterday. So do something today that your future self will thank you for.

You can't grow by hanging out with people who refuse to. Try to spend less time with those who are stubborn & stuck in their comfort zones.

And the best one is....Give more than you take. When you shift your attitude from "how can I gain" to "how can I give," you'll be amazed at the gifts you receive.

My top 20 list to add is some of the simplest lessons but are the hardest to learn and implement daily:
    • Often those who aren't the easiest to love are the ones who need it the most.
    • Seeing children play can make even the bluest day brighter.
    • Money is not the root of all evil, fear is.
    • The secret to happiness is the acceptance of yourself.
    • Happiness is not based on external status, it is an internal state.
    • Money can't make me happy, but self-sufficiency gives me the freedom to share myself creatively, without worrying about how I'm going to pay the bills.
    • Every man has a right to choose his own destiny.
    • The path is the way.
    • Coming is going, going is coming.
    • The hardest is found in the easiest.
    • Heaven and hell exist here and now, within your own mind.
    • Life is the largest stage.
    • Music is one of the most supreme expressions of life. It is art in it's most transitory form. It is gone within an instant, and therefore, extremely precious.
    • Follow your gut, you'll thank yourself later.
    • Remember what your mother taught you, it came from the most sacred place of love that exists.
    • Never let an argument last, never hold a grudge, it will make your heart heavy.
    • Forgive those that have yet to do you wrong, and you won't have to worry about it should the time come.
    • Be grateful for this moment, it is all there is.
    • The source of most of your frustrations and anxiety are the result of living in the future, or the past.
    • Spend time alone with yourself every day.

Here are my contributions as for what I have learned in life:

Make it your top priority to pay down all of your debt as soon as possible.
Keep an “emergency fund” — there were tons of horror stories about people getting financially ruined by health issues, lawsuits, divorces, bad business deals, etc.
Stash away a portion of every paycheck, preferably into a 401k, an IRA or at the least, a savings account.
Don’t spend frivolously. Don’t buy a home unless you can afford to get a good mortgage with good rates.

Great advice indeed. They sound too conservative.. but I know for a fact that they should be followed..

just staying out of debt ,

there is just this negative feeling inside when you have to work to pay of debt ..and by taking on debt to pay for it..you pay much more over time than the price of the thing you bought .

now if something is a real asset that generates the income to pay the debt service ..and you can swing paying the payments if the income is lost fine .

but the wealthiest people buy 2nd hand cars that are high quality ..for cash .if you put stuff on a credit card . it should be one with a reward point program that you can pay off every month .

have six month to a year of available capital that covers all your expenses .

take care of your health ..and stay off medications for as long as possible .

buy the bed that gives you the most comfortable restful sleep you can have ..

and if you are online a lot ..buy a chair that is real comfortable and doesn't cause compression or strain on your lower back .

identify the things on every level you are wastng energy trying to get other people to do for you that you actually should do for yourself .

I've learned NOT to listen to others whose mode of work simply does not harmonize with my karma.

Never try to fit yourself into what others think you should do. Sing your own song - that simply cannot be duplicated.
