1 Pressing Problem Faced by Most Warriors

I've spotted a problem faced by most Warriors.

Or at least, too many of them.

They're trying to make money, instead of allowing their creative juices to flow, to create something useful....and instead of forming genuine, authentic bonds with authorities in their niche....and, instead of selling products or offering services in alignment with their area of expertise.

If you REALLY want to make money blogging, or through IM, or through any channel in life, do 4 things.

1: Save enough money to where you don't care about making money online. This is the level of detachment needed to create awesome content, and to form genuine connections. Work a part time job, or put in extra time at work, or give up cable and your gym membership, or jst save for a few more months to pad your cash flow, to do the online thing the right way.

Some folks break this rule, and succeed through sheer willpower, but using this level of force creates an unhappiness, anxiety and bitterness in their being, which ruins their life....some genuinely happy folks break this rule, and I say, more power to them. These select, semi-enlightened few, did something me and most other folks online couldn't do. Save. Pad your account. Then, you can succeed much more quickly online, because you won't be noting any lack of money which of course, scares off money and diminishes your creativity, authenticity and attractiveness to authorities in your niche.

2: Through practice, and patient work and through learning from experts in your niche, create impacting content. The type of stuff that makes folks do a double take. This takes time, energy, creativity, and again, an authentic, sincere approach, to wanting to help folks....and NOT to get paid (remember #1, you're already paid, and all saved up, so you can detach from outcomes.)

When I say "practice" I mean spending hours each day honing your craft, just like any professional, in any niche, or job on earth, has to work, to get good at something.

3. Make authentic connections. Once in a while I receive emails from strangers asking me to JV with them. I wouldn't hinge my reputation, and business future, and my financial stability, and my online businesses, on a desperate plea from some guy who I met on the street 5 minutes ago.....so I'm not doing it with someone I met online 5 minutes ago.

Help. Experts. Promote their blog posts, comment on their blog posts....outreach works damn well, and I'm typing these words from Fiji - in an ocean front home for 4 months - because of the authorities, experts and gurus I've helped, and helped, and helped....who grew to trust me, and connect with me.....and these folks expanded my presence in unimaginable ways, from getting interviewed on sites like brand.com, to being asked to speak at prestigious NYU, to guest posting on the top sites in my niche.

Send personalized emails. Chat about non-business stuff. Freaking make friends, it's so incredibly easy to do, when you're authentic, care about folks and truly want to help them.

4: Monetize products or services relevant to your niche only. If you saw Tony Robbins on TV selling frozen chicken bites, you'd wonder what the heck a personal develop guru is doing selling something totally unrelated to his area of expertise. Like, he should sell personal development-themed products, and maybe Frank Perdue (or his kids since he's passed on I believe) should sell the frozen chicken bites.

Sell what your niche expects you to sell. Sell in line with your area of expertise.Freelance in line with your expertise. This alignment and level of clarity helps you make money with increasing ease, because people will not be confused by any divergence between your area of expertise and your offering.

Guys, follow these 4 tips, and you will make money through any online endeavor...but at that point, you'll not care much about money so it'll sneak in the back door because you're no longer looking for it.

Bula!....from Fiji.

Have a great weekend all, and keep on smiling

Ryan

    Brilliant post Ryan,
your overall message of 'stop focusing on the money' is right on the money lol...instead of chasing oportu nities for 'quick cash' concentrate on an exchange of value - is another way I have heard it expressed. You see comments like 'how long before I make bank on this' and 'what can you make'...it is completely the wrong mind set to produce anything of lasting value - and sadly this is what a lot of people here tend to chase. Money is of course important, but you will make more of it if you offer genuine help to a group of people rather than trying to find a 'hack' to game the system.

It hard not to focus on the money. Some people are already frustrated right from the outset due to other problems they are currently facing, so telling them not to focus on the money is the kind of advice that will likely fall on deaf ears.

That said, I'm in complete agreement with the notion that it impedes success.

  • This was exactly how marketing was supposed to be. As for most things in life, everyone wants an easy way out. All this you said Ryan, reminds me just how hard -- and also satisfying -- digital marketing is. Thanks a ton for the tips

Basically you are saying that i should create a lifestyle business.
Focusing on one topic, doing enough to earn the money i want, and concentrate on the quality of things you produce. And then enjoy the ride and the rest of your life.

Great advice, that's exactly why i'm here.
    Cheers Mike

    Love how you preach Ryan.

It is difficult to perform any task at all if you are blinded by your desires for money. Money is awesome to have and earn, but if that is your complete focus then you will have nothing to bring the money in to you.

There is a big different between being obsessed with making money and being blinded by visions of making money.

As for a blogger.. More than anybody. Your heart cannot poor if you cannot open yourself past your own selfishness.

Like your new website name also. Much easier to read, and very suitable for your style of blogging. You were doing well before, so I can only imagine with this awesome advancement.

Seems that its completely fresh with only new any articles... Am I missing your countless others?

thanks, and have a great day!

Well said, Ryan. Thought I'd add my thoughts as well.

I think for many of us we can be in one of two camps - cash rich and time poor or time rich and cash poor. The challenge is to do your best with what you have right now. If you're working full time outside of IM, do your best with the hours you have and see if it's possible to outsource some of your more mundane tasks. Create some momentum while you're saving up your cash, but don't wear yourself out in the process. Been there, it's not fun - trust me. You can't help anyone if you're exhausted all the time!

If you're time rich, get insanely focused on your goals and work out your most dollar productive tasks. Hopefully, you can keep up with the bills at the same time! Then, in time... you'll move to a completely different camp.

I really liked what you said about creating real connections. I really believe that to make IM a long term profitable business, then it has to be fun. If you're investing a considerable amount of hours each week, make it as real, fun and authentic as possible...

    Enjoy Fiji!

  • Some great stuff. I don't quite agree with step 1, I believe that if we are fully committed and our life depends on it, we will do a better job at it.

At the same time, we have to focus on adding value

Thanks for your post. Hard to read and accept for some, but, for the most part, I'd agree 100%.

I definitely DO understand about what you are saying about the money part and NOT needing to make money with this "venture" so that you don't focus on the outcome so much.

I agree with you on that. However, it seems that most people wait until they are in a real "money crunch" before they try to make money on-line. Know what I mean? And, that being so, they tend to fall for the "make money overnight" scams and schemes that are out there.

With what you say, I agree about "padding your bank account" first. DON'T wait until you are desperate. Think about, plan and participate in this approach BEFORE you "have to". Like you said, by doing so you actually "produce" more material/information that is "real" and useful.

I've heard it said many times, "If you are chasing the money, you will not make the money." and, then it is said that when you STOP focusing and "chasing" the money that the money will come naturally.

    Great post - thanks again!

If you focus on your creativity is stead on making money, your products will not only look awesome, but they will make you a lot of money. Everyone has a unique perspective to share and when you take your time and focus on creativity, you produce a better product.

Love all the points. Not sure if that is all it takes to be successful. Might be more, might be less depending on the person.

Just want to offer a clarification on point 1.
“Save enough money to where you don't care about making money online.”

Seems to create an instant paradox. If I already had enough money then why would I . . . well, you get the idea.

I will save how to deal with a paradox for another time. This point is about detachment which is handled wonderfully through many methods already such as Zen Buddhism, meditation, or learning to stay in the present moment.

This detachment can also be tricky in not turning into, “I truly do not care about making money”. Just enough motivation to do what it takes – no more, no less.

Hope that helps and makes friends!

What you said about having a part time job to take the edge off financially is so true as it keeps you from being desperate. Just look at everyone on Fiverr who is offering services that you should be paying $100 or more for. The only reason they are offering anything so low is desperation. As many are living so close to the financial edge. Get offline and get at least a part time job to bring in some money and you will have a little more freedom when it comes to what you are doing online.

Thanks for all these tips, especially about networking. Very valuable advice.
